 Baghdad: Shaima Rasheed

The Parliamentary Committee on Oil, Gas and Natural Resources pledged to overcome the differences regarding controversial draft laws between the federal government and the Kurdistan region by approving the oil and gas law, which remained in the drawers of Parliament without discussion and approval of the lack of consensus regarding it.

A member of the committee, Bassem Naghimesh Al-Gharibawi, explained in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that four main chronic problems between the federal government and the Kurdistan region are repeated annually, including the budget, whose approval is always delayed, attributing the reason for this to the lack of solutions leading to the adoption of controversial and controversial laws such as law. Oil and gas, Article 140 and non-oil revenues, which, if legislated, will solve a major problem, indicating that after approving the budget and the start of the next legislative term, parliament will move towards the draft oil law because it is among the important laws that the government will work on and send to parliament.

Al-Gharibawi added that approving the oil and gas law is one of the items of the ministerial platform agreed upon by the State Administration Coalition and approved politically, realizing that the problem lies in some details of the law that were not agreed upon.

A member of the Oil and Gas Committee stated that the technical matters in the draft law are almost complete with the government, but the politically controversial articles have not yet been resolved, pointing out that the committee will conduct field visits to the leaders of the political blocs to discuss the provisions of the draft law and obtain the necessary political support to pass it
