Clackamsh Press / Continue

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's president sent a bill to parliament on Wednesday to remove four zeros from the value of a nation's currency, which is suffering the effects of tough financial sanctions.

If approved by the parliament, Iran's central bank will devalue the riyal and rename the official currency to become the toman.

The bank will have two years to design the new currency, with the name of the currency not officially used since the 1930s being renamed, while the authorities have not provided any estimates of the cost of designing the new currency.

The Iranians are dealing in cash transactions in riyals and the currency of the toman, which has become more common, which is equivalent to the toman ten riyals, and comes at a time when tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran.

Parliament is also unlikely to accept Rouhani's request soon. The request was considered non-urgent, meaning the parliament had about two years, or even 2021, to deliberate and likely to approve the bill.

It shocks me to see how so many dinar holders reject any chance of Iran doing anything with their currency besides the dreaded lop. They use the same argument about Iran that people have used to dissuade others from buying dinar, ie lopsters.

Again, the rial is such a cheap gamble, why anyone wouldn't put down a few bucks to see how it goes, is beyond me. If they lop, I'm out $100. Boohoo

It was either this or Vegas for me LOL who knows, right? :cheesehead:

Bloviation is a style of empty, pompous political speech popularized by United States President Warren G. Militias prevent the chaos of border crossings between Iraq and Iran

- One Day Has Passed

%D8%A7%D9%8A%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86-12-300x20

BAQUBA, Iraq - More than 10 days have passed since the Iraqi authorities announced their decision to close a border crossing with Iran, in an attempt to control the chaos of border crossings and reduce the flow of narcotics and various kinds of illegal and dangerous substances through them, until the pro-Iranian militias pressed and controlled those ports. And their beneficiaries, to initiate immediate re-opening procedures.

The governor of Kermanshah in western Iran, Hoshenk Bazund, on Tuesday, signed a memorandum of understanding between Baghdad and Tehran to reopen the Mandali-Sumar port in a week.

The Iraqi government has issued on the eleventh of this month an order to close the crossing located within the area of Diyala province north of the capital Baghdad, and the transfer of staff to another crossing in the same province.

The decision came according to informed sources against the backdrop of security reports indicating that the port has become a smuggling route for drugs, illegal substances, carcinogens and weapons.

Iranian exports to Iraq are passing through the Mandali border port on a daily basis in large quantities, where the amount of those exports last year through the same port million and 138 thousand tons worth one billion and 242 million dollars.

The bomber is described as one of the "loose points" for the lack of state control over him and his subordination to a limited number of Shiite militia leaders, so that his resources are poured into their pockets without entering the treasury.

Iraqi authorities and parliamentarians have often warned that border crossings and outlets are one way of financing militias at the expense of the state, and that competition is sometimes fierce.

Iraqis say the issue of border crossings, which Iran is constantly pushing Iraq to keep open under all circumstances, is a model of the disproportionate relationship between Baghdad and Tehran that makes the latter a beneficiary, while the former always suffices to pay the bill from its security, economy, safety of its environment and the health of its citizens.

As US sanctions on Iran intensified, the latter became increasingly obsessed with opening ports with Iraq and intensifying trade, which is essentially one-way. Iraq receives tons of low-quality, prohibited and harmful goods.

"Given the developmental role of the Sumar border crossing for the Iranian provinces of Kermanshah and Diyala, the Iraqis, especially officials in Diyala province, are keen to reopen this port and officially restore its activities," Bazund told IRNA.

He added that efforts are underway to reopen the Iraqi part of this port by the end of next week, with the permission of the Iraqi Prime Minister. "A meeting was held by Iranian officials with the governor of Diyala and the chairman of the provincial council on the border of Sumar and the Iraqi side made suggestions on the operation of the crossing." "According to the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides, we look forward to the reopening of the Sumar crossing within a week," he said. According to the governor of Kermanshah, 300 trucks of goods are currently being exported to Iraq daily through the Sumar port.

“Since we are on the eve of the holy month of Muharram as well as Imam Hussein's forties, Iran's exports of goods to Iraq that pass through other border ports will be directed to the Sumar border port, which makes the reopening of this port extremely important for both countries,” Bazund said.

Every year, a few million Shiite pilgrims flock to Iraq to visit their holy sites, commemorating the death of Hussein and then for the 40th day after his death, which represents an economic opportunity for some residents, but it is beginning to pose a security burden on the Iraqi authorities due to the great effort to protect these visitors on the one hand. To watch them too, the visit is also an opportunity for smugglers of goods, drugs from Iran, as well as for counterfeit visa traffickers.

The Iraqi border outlets announced on Tuesday, the arrest of three Iranian passengers in possession of narcotic substances in the border port of Zurbatia in Wasit province, south of Baghdad.

One of the big problems is that many do not understand the difference between the monetary unit(Dinar) and the currency(IQD).

Countries do not remove zeros from the currency,

they are removed from the monetary unit.

In a redenomination the currency IQD would retain the zeros and a new currency introduced that did not have zeros.

The old Turkish lira TRL still has zeros,

it was the new currency TRY that had the zeros removed.

When reading articles care needs to be taken in respect of the context,

are they referring to the monetary unit or the currency.

Counter-revolution in Iran calls for Khamenei to leave!

- 18 Hours Have Passed

%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A6%D9%86%D9%8A.jpg

Iran's external leadership has not relieved the resentment of Iranians at home, as local critics of the Islamic Republic and its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have not hesitated to launch attacks on the regime that have escalated in recent weeks through public protests and a call for the leader to resign. His imprisonment did not prevent him for several years, and the elderly did not prevent the well-known political activist Abul Fazl Ghadiani from criticizing Khamenei by writing a short comment published by the opposition website "Internet" on 11th of this month, saying: "Iranians will not feel peace and happiness as long as he insists Khamenei to continue his illegal rule ».

Ghadiani has shifted from a strong supporter of the regime to a stronger Khamenei hardliner in recent years, and in his latest statement he called on him to step down and pave the way for a referendum that would lead to a "secular democratic republic."

Ghadiani, a prominent member of the left-wing Mujahideen Organization of the Islamic Revolution, is different from the foreign-based Mujahideen Khalq Organization. He was imprisoned in the wake of the unrest caused by the 2009 elections and brought Ahmadinejad as president. He was again sentenced in 2012 to two years with 40 lashes, and in March this year the Tehran court sentenced him to three years in prison for insulting Khamenei and spreading propaganda against the regime. His son, Morteza, said his father had been sentenced to two years for insulting Khamenei, three years for spreading propaganda against the regime, and could end up spending longer periods. He was also ordered to read three books in support of the revolution and the Islamic Republic, one of which praised Khamenei, and then copied them all by hand. (Manual transcripts are a punishment in Iran's primary schools.) He was arrested in June, but the coroner ruled that he was too ill and unable to carry out the sentence.

His latest verdict was due to two letters to Khamenei criticizing him for misusing his political power and calling on him to resign. He also wrote a letter to President Hassan Rouhani accusing him of lacking the courage to fulfill his promise to end house arrest by opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi, his wife Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi.

"Rouhani is not brave enough to stand up to Iran's authoritarian ruler," Ghadiani said. He also accused Khamenei of "stubbornness and reluctance" to not allow the abolition of house arrest against opposition leaders after nearly a decade.

Seven Moussaoui advisers wrote to Rouhani at the end of July expressing concern about the health conditions of the three detainees and calling on Rouhani to take "effective action" to secure the release of the three as he repeatedly promised during his 2013 and 2017 election campaigns.

In May, Ghadiani called Khamenei a despot after he called the dictator after receiving a summons to appear in court while facing a three-year prison sentence. "They are dominated by intelligence agents, and both - the court and the agents - are under total control of Mr Khamenei's tyrant." Ghadiani went further by warning that recent amendments to senior positions in the Islamic Republic signaled a period of increasing violence and terrorism. Ghadiani said the Islamic Republic "cannot be repaired."

Ghadiani, a powerful revolutionary in the 1970s and 1980s, faced new legal problems after calling for the abolition of the post of supreme leader last year.

In another development, some 8,700 Iranian political activists, journalists and veterans of the Iran-Iraq war, as well as family members of those killed in that war in the 1980s, wrote a letter to Rouhani recently demanding "effective action" to free opposition leaders now. A recent defense statement read in Tehran court by former MP Mohammad Khatami proved that what opposition leaders said about election fraud in 2009 was true.

Khatami presented evidence that 8 million votes had been added to the polls for the conservative candidate in the election, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was backed by Khamenei and the Revolutionary Guards.

Meanwhile, in the past weeks, three groups of 14 political activists in Iran and abroad have issued statements calling on Khamenei to resign and pave the way for a change in the country's constitution and political system. Iranian social media users in Iran overwhelmingly supported the call by activists inside Iran, and media outlets under Khamenei's influence, such as state television, and those close to the Revolutionary Guards, such as the Fars News Agency, described the activists' renewed campaign against Khamenei as an attempt to support those. Who "want regime change in Iran."

In another development, in an open letter to the Supreme Leader, 14 women's rights activists called on Khamenei to step down. The signatories to the new letter, published on August 5, protested against what they called "gender apartheid" and the "masculine approach" that dominates the country.

Four decades of this theocracy have abolished "the rights of half of the country's population," according to women's rights activists.

Getty Pour Fadl, a lawyer, said 14 women had signed the letter "and 20 million Iranian women could consider themselves the 15 signatories." The women concluded their message by inviting the Iranian nation to join them in chanting: "No to the Islamic Republic!"

Before the current Iranian regime asks the Arab states and the world to trust it, it must win the trust of its people. Instead of continuing to set fires in the Middle East, what do you think of the fires that are raging inside? The dare to demand that Khamenei step down and change the regime is not because of the freedom the regime gives to its people, but because the people are beginning to feel that the regime's ship is getting holes in it. The Iranian regime says it will volunteer US President Donald Trump and bring him to the negotiating table according to Khamenei's conditions and the threats of the Revolutionary Guards. At home, he continues to suppress freedoms and imprison women for espionage.

Economist: Iraq is not affected by the fall of the Toman because it deals with a basket of world currencies, including the dollar
Economie 11:58 Last updated S homepage! 1208 Watch       BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
The collapse of the Iranian currency against the dollar is an internal affair of the Iranian republic and has a positive impact on Iraq, the economic expert said on Monday.
Jabbar said in an interview with "Al-Ghad Press" that "the financial deposit of the Iraqi investor in Iranian banks and banks is not affected by the decline or collapse of the Iranian Toman against the US dollar, being considered a foreign deposit remains the same with their benefits in a certain investment circle," adding that "The stock market and securities and the basket of foreign currencies against the Iranian currency will certainly affect the decline or collapse of the Iranian Toman."

"The decline of the Iranian currency does not affect the Iraqi investors because the decline or collapse of the Tuman is because of the sanctions imposed by the United States of America on Iran, and therefore do not reflect a serious market," noting that "the process of retreat or collapse of the Iranian Toman on Iraq Will have a positive outcome, because Iraq is a country importer of Iranian goods. "
"The decline in the Iranian currency will reduce the investments in Iran and begin to move towards Iraq in light of the improved security and economic situation in Iraq," Jabbar said, adding that "Iraqi imports will be booming because the financial value of imported quantities will be less as a result of the decline of Atoman against the US dollar, Fruits and Iranian milk.
