Iraq's Sadr says he is willing to work with Iran-backed rivals to oust U.S. troops

Iraqi Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr said on Monday he was willing to work with Iran-backed militia groups - his political rivals - to end the United States military presence in Iraq through political and legal means.

Washington threatens to continue hitting "Iran's factions" in Iraq

On Sunday, US Defense Secretary Mark Asper announced that the strikes against the bases of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq and Syria were "successful", and he did not rule out other steps "if necessary in order to act in self-defense and deter the militias or Iran" from committing hostile acts.

Donald Trump blames Iran for attack on US embassy in Baghdad as under-siege American soldiers fire stun grenades at pro-Tehran Hezbollah mob who have stormed complex and set it on fire following protest over air strikes

• Flames were seen rising from the compound where at least half a dozen US soldiers stood on the rooftop with their guns trained on protesters amid a cloud of tear gas at the building's entrance
• Thousands had held funerals for the fighters of the Iran-backed Kataeb Hezbollah earlier before rushing through the heavily fortified Green Zone, burning US flags as they headed towards the consulate
• Footage showed a rapidly deteriorating scene as protesters set fire to barricades surrounding the consulate compound and hurling rocks
• Rioters were seen pressed up against the windows, taunting US soldiers and spraying graffiti over the glass
• It comes after US fighter jets decimated three locations in Iraq on Sunday night, in retaliation for last week's killing of an another site in a rocket attack in the region
