In my opinion, the progress for the liberation of West Mosul after the retaking of the 17July ISIS stronghold seems to be painfully but methodically slow. The areas outside of Old Mosul seem to be accessible like other modern parts of Mosul so retaking those areas aught to go quickly. To put things in perspective, if there are nominally 300 ISIS militants (every man, woman and child) left in West Mosul while the ISIS controlled northwest perimeter is nominally 1 kilometer (1,000 meters) and the southwest perimeter is 2 kilometers, then there would be 3,000 meters of perimeter to defend and a militant nominally every 10 meters (33 ft). The progress, no matter what the layout is would seem to go faster especially if the IDF have access to informants on likely ISIS militant holes.

So, seems like something else needs to line up with the retaking of all of West Mosul from ISIS. After all, the remaining ISIS in West Mosul are vastly outnumbered (probably significantly more that 100:1). Maybe the securing of all of the Iraqi borders is critical to line up with the complete retaking of West Mosul.

What ever time is on the clock seems to be winding down. Maybe toward show down with Iran, too. I suspect the National Reconciliation will need to be kicked in in full force to rid Iraq of Iran and to avert sectarian violence. If significant sectarian violence erupts, I suspect this ride could take a while longer since the international investment stability will be insufficient and any reconstruction efforts halted and/or reversed.

I have an optimistic view and think a few supporting surprises are in the works. For the very short term, the longer this goes out then the more secure the reconstruction and trade activities will be when implemented - and we'll be on to another chapter in life.

Just my opinion and :twocents:

Go Moola Nova!

Federal Police forces have entered Bab al-Beid neighborhood in the Old City of Mosul district in the right bank of Mosul, as shown by pictures obtained by The Baghdad Post on Tuesday.

These efforts come as part of an offensive launched on 19th of February by US-backed Iraqi security forces, supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias to oust ISIS from Mosul their last major strong hold in Iraq.

ISIS is suffering massive losses in the right bank of Mosul and has only small pockets in the city. Many experts expect that the group's terrorists will defend them to the death.

Exclusive: Map reveals latest developments in battle for Mosul

A map showing the latest development in the battle aiming to regain the right bank of Mosul city from ISIS was obtained by the Baghdad Post on Tuesday.

The areas in green illustrate the completely regained ones, areas in orange show the areas currently witnessing clashes while the areas in white are still controlled by ISIS terrorist group.

In a statement, the Center said it renews its commitment to neutrality when covering stories of the battles and the other issues. Our aim is nothing but the truth, the statement concluded.

Publishing the maps relating to the progress of the Iraqi forces in Mosul is done after contacts with multiple military sources and local officials, it added.

Iraqi Forces launched a major offensive on 19th of February to retake the western part of Mosul after declaring total control of the eastern part of the city on 24th of January as part of the military operations to liberate the city that started on 17th of October 2016.

On Tuesday, an army senior officer was killed while participating in the military operations to liberate Mosul city from ISIS terrorist group, a press source told The Baghdad Post.

Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) freed 380 civilians who were held captives by ISIS terrorists in Mosul's right bank, a security source told The Baghdad Post.

Eight ISIS terrorists were killed when Iraqi air force launched two air raids targeting a position affiliated to the terrorist group in Ba'aj town west of Mosul city in Nineveh governorate, Iraqi War Media Cell said.

The air strikes also destroyed an ISIS house and a booby-trapped vehicle.

The Iraqi and US-led coalition warplanes are launching daily air raids that target ISIS positions in Nineveh governorate in which they killed hundreds of terrorists and destroyed their weapons and equipment.

US-backed Iraqi forces, supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias, had launched an offensive on 19th of February to oust ISIS terrorists from Mosul, their last major stronghold in Iraq.

My concern is the remaining Iranian forces.  I pray that our "advisory" personnel are keeping a very, very close eye on their positions/deployments.  I can only imagine the further delays of economic interests if these brutes decide to overstay their welcome.

ISIS turns public bathroom into mass grave in Mosul– Source

May 30 2017 03:30 PM
ISIS' horrendous crimes
ISIS' horrendous crimes

ISIS terror group has turned a public bathroom, located in al-Makkawi district in Mosul's right bank into a mass grave, a source told The Baghdad Post on Tuesday.

The source said that the terrorist group has killed civilians and thrown their bodies in the bathroom.

A stinky smell has come from the bathroom because high temperatures decomposed the bodies very quickly, it added.

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and half of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.

Mosul: Raping, torture

Words elude me over this video. Being from a civilized world such as we are we find this reprehensible at best, a war crime in the least. Even though I want all Deash terrorists eliminated, just a buck's worth of lead will suffice. I'm not a big fan of torture, but when I was over there it was a common everyday occurance.

The average life span for the average male at the time was 43. It is easy to see why.

It will take a couple of generations to change the way of thinking there, if ever.

France enlists Iraqi soldiers to kill French ISIS terrorists

France is enlisting Iraqi soldiers to hunt down and kill French terrorists fighting for ISIS before they return home and carry out terror attacks, as reported by the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Special forces are reportedly supplying ground forces with names and photos of up to 30 French citizens who have fled to Iraq.

Image1_5201730222249311069449.png

High-ranking French ISIS terrorists have been selected as targets amid fears they will return home to carry out atrocities, it is claimed.

It comes as a shipment of a so-called 'jihadi drug' increasingly used by ISIS fanatics was intercepted in Paris.

According to investigations, French special forces have been using Iraqi soldiers to hunt down the 'high-value' targets for a number of months.

Ground units have been given photographs, alibis and location coordinates taken from surveillance drones and radio intercepts, according to the newspaper, which says its information comes from Iraqi officers as well as current and former French officials.

France has been hammered by a wave of deadly terror attacks carried out by ISIS terrorists over the last three years.

Last year, it was estimated that some 1,700 French citizens had fled the country to join ISIS in Iraq or Syria. Hundreds of those are believed to have been killed.

Meanwhile, illegal shipments of the so-called 'Jihadi drug' Captagon worth a total of almost £1.5m have been intercepted in France for the first time.

Image1_5201730222325948525259.png

It comes as the euphoria-generating drug is increasingly used by ISIS terrorists as they set off on their murderous missions.

Details of the customs haul at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport were today made public for the first time.

Some 350,000 tablets of the amphetamine-based Captagon were first found at France's busiest airport on January 4.

Image1_5201730222355810493052.png

Then, on February 22, another 300,000 were found - making a total of 135kgs of Captagon with a street value of £1.4million.

The shipment originated in Lebanon, said a customs official, adding: 'This is the first time that this drug has been seized in France.'

There have been similar seizures in other European countries this year, including Holland, where the country's first known fake Captagon laboratory was found in April.

Hundreds of thousands of the pillswere discovered, along with three guns, in the premises in the town of Brunssum, and there were two arrests.

Captagon, which was invented to treat sleep disorders, keeps users awake for long periods of time, and can make them feel hugely energetic and happy.

ISIS terrorists have often spoken about taking the addictive hallucinogenic pills - hence the 'Jihadi drug' tag.

It has become particularly associated with the war in Syria, where thousands of terrorists take the drug before entering battlefields.

While Captagon is a brand name for the fenethylline drug, there are also plenty of fake versions stamped with the word 'Captagon' to increase their street value.

The seizure in France comes as the country remains under a State of Emergency following a series of ISIS attacks across Europe.

Civilian hostages released is great news and not heard often enough. I wonder what ever happened to the 10,000, think the number was this,  civilians taken hostage by  ISIS a while back. Will they ever uncover  hidden prisons or a trail of mass graves? I wish they could give a number of total civilians saved but may never know You got to give the Iraq military and others fighting and dying credit under PM. They aren't chickens that turn and run no more. God bless our troops there training and working beside them too. Pray this ends soon so they can rebuild their homes and lives.

38 IS Militants Killed West of Mosul

38 IS Militants Killed West of Mosul

LEEDS — Iraqi Air Force warplanes and paramilitary forces killed 38 Islamic State (IS) militants on Tuesday during military operations west of Mosul, near the border with Syria.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said in a statement that Iraqi army warplanes killed 25 IS members in Tel Fares, Baaj and Badush regions west Mosul. Three IS vehicles were also destroyed in the strikes, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, militants from the government-backed Hashd al-Shaabi said they killed 13 IS suicide bombers from IS in Mahalabiya, Tel Zalat and Adaya, also west of Mosul.

The Shi'ite militia also stated its forces had begun digging trenches along the Iraqi-Syrian border after they had reached them through recapturing several villages on the way.

The advances are part of the ongoing operation against the IS in Mosul that started in October last year, when the Iraqi forces backed by the US-led coalition launched a major offensive against the extremist group.

180,000 Civilians Trapped in Mosul’s Old City

Shoguna B. Sobir

31/05/2017 - 01:02

180,000 Civilians Trapped in Mosul’s Old City

ISTANBUL — Approximately 180,000 people currently in the Old City neighbourhood in western Mosul,- all living with severe water and food shortages, with no electricity or humanitarian assistance, have been called to leave, according to UN Iraq.

“Displaced children and their families are expected to flee and reach safer areas without any belongings, most likely in a state of physical and mental shock. UNICEF and its partners are ready to provide them with lifesaving assistance at the earliest possible points,” said Peter Hawkins, UNICEF’s Representative in Iraq. Children make up about half of the total population of the neighborhood.

So far, between 10,000 to 15,000 arrive at displacement camps daily.

In order to help them along during their journey to safer areas emergency packages have been placed on the routes by the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), the World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

“WFP is working closely with our UN and NGO partners to ensure food and humanitarian assistance is available to families coming out of western Mosul,” said Sally Haydock, WFP’s Representative in Iraq.

“Our thoughts are with those who are trapped inside the Old City, most of whom will not have had access to nutritious food for several months,” she added.

In addition to food and water shortages, residents of the city have also been under traumatic stress, requiring medical and psychological assistance.

“Women and girls escaping the fighting in Mosul are particularly vulnerable to the risk of gender-based violence and are emerging from long periods of oppression and trauma under ISIL. Under these circumstances, the dignity kits of UNFPA meets their fundamental need of self-respect” said Ramanathan Balakrishnan, UNFPA Representative in Iraq, using another acronym for the Islamic State (IS).

Since the operation to oust IS militants out of Mosul commenced on October 17, 2016, more than 1 million residents were provided with RRM assistance kits.
