Trump threatens to impose unprecedented sanctions on Iraq

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump threatened on Sunday evening to impose "heavy" sanctions on Iraq if US forces were forced to leave.

However, German Foreign Minister Haikou Maas considered, on Monday, that the threat of sanctions against Iraq was of no use after the threat of the US President. "I don't think convincing Iraq of the threat will work, but with dialogue," Mas told public radio Deutschland Funke.

Trump told reporters on the US Air Force One plane, returning to Washington after a two-week vacation in Florida to impose sanctions on Iraq, Washington's ally, after the Iraqi parliament demanded the exit of US forces from the country.

"We have an air base there that is exceptionally expensive," Trump told reporters. Building them cost billions of dollars long before I came. We will not leave unless they return the cost to us. ”

He added that if Iraq demands the departure of the American forces and this is not done on an amicable basis, "we will impose sanctions on them that they have never seen before." Iran's sanctions next to it will be a small thing.

On Sunday, the Iraqi parliament called on the government to "end the presence of any foreign forces" on its soil by initiating a "cancellation of the request for assistance" submitted to the international community to fight ISIS.

During an emergency session of the parliament, which was transmitted directly via the official channel of the state’s screen, and in the presence of the outgoing Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, the parliamentarians approved the “obligation of the Iraqi government to preserve the sovereignty of Iraq by canceling the request for assistance,” according to what Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi announced in response to the killing of the commander of the Quds Force Iranian Qasim Soleimani and Deputy Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, with a US air strike in Baghdad last Friday.

As the US State Department announced that Washington was "disappointed with the action taken in the Iraqi parliament (Sunday)" to begin work to end the US troop presence in Iraq.

In a statement, US State Department spokeswoman, Morgan Ortagos, indicated that her country is waiting for "more clarification about the legal nature" of the decision and hopes that Baghdad will reconsider it.

She continued, "We strongly urge Iraqi leaders to reconsider the importance of the ongoing economic and security relationship between the two countries and the continued existence of the global coalition to defeat ISIS."

"We believe it is in the common interests of the United States and Iraq to continue fighting against ISIS together," she said. This administration remains committed to a sovereign, stable and prosperous Iraq.

And deploy about 5 thousand American soldiers in military bases throughout Iraq within the international coalition under the pretext of fighting the "ISIS".

The protesters in Tahrir Square announced through loudspeakers on behalf of all the rebellious governorates in Iraq that they refused to recycle Adel Abdul Mahdi as prime minister.

The protesters called, Monday, January 6, 2020, to a massive millionaire Friday 10/1 and take to the squares in all provinces to demand the overthrow of the government and the dissolution of Parliament, after it became clear to everyone that those who moved it were Iran and their loyalty was not to Iraq.

They asserted that the massive millionaire would force the entire world to stand with the Iraqis before Iran’s tails with every possible force.

These statements came after the demonstrators extracted the tweeters, which were tweeting, in contrast to the direction and desire of the October Revolution in favor of Muqtada al-Sadr's followers.

Iran began to mobilize the Iranians, its armed forces, and the Revolutionary Guards in response to the assassination of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.

As Iranian television broadcast on the evening of Monday January 6, 2020, we applaud the Iran-Iraq war, referring to the state of war that the region might witness after the killing of Soleimani.

On the other hand, the American "CNN" network quoted a US Defense Department official as confirming the deployment of the B-52s with huge destructive force in preparation for operations against Iran if an order was issued at any time.

The B-52 is one of the most famous American bombers capable of carrying nuclear bombs with a huge destructive capacity that exceeds what happened in World War II when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were targeted in Japan.

In turn, US Defense Secretary Mark Esber said that his country has no plans to withdraw from Iraq.

Western media revealed that the American army completed field training for 52 fighters of the American Air Force, which lasted for a full day, under the title "Fighting Force".

The exercises included reassurance of the readiness of 52 advanced F35 military aircraft, as well as the announcement by the Air Force 388 of its readiness to participate in any possible war, in reference to the 52 goals that US President Donald Trump announced targeting in Iran if it targeted American forces.

In turn, the Chairman of the American Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mike Millie, said that the message published about the withdrawal from Iraq was "a draft" and that it was "wrong" and "should not be sent," adding: "No soldier will leave Iraq."

On the other hand and in continuation of the escalation between the two sides, American media said that the United States refused to allow Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to enter its territories to address the Security Council this week.

The US State Department: Our forces have made sacrifices in order for Iraq to be stable and in its best interest to remain

Baghdad today _ Baghdad

US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagos said today, Monday, that American forces have made sacrifices for the sake of a stable Iraq, and it is in Iraq’s interest that our forces remain. "

The Trump administration has supported the protests that have taken place because of Iran's influence in Iraq," Morgan Ortagos said in statements to Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath, noting that "the protesters want to end Iranian influence and we will continue to support the Iraqi people in this."

Ortagos added, "The American forces made sacrifices in order for Iraq to be stable, and it is in the interest of Iraq that our forces remain and ally with them."

And about the recent decision of the House of Representatives, which voted to remove foreign forces from the country, she said: "We were very disappointed after the vote to remove our forces."

And on the threat of armed factions targeting American forces in Iraq, the State Department spokeswoman stressed that "any attack by armed factions against American interests and forces will be treated as an attack by Iran."

The Iraqi parliament, on Sunday, voted in favor of the government’s obligation to remove foreign forces from the country, cancel the security agreement with the United States, and cancel the request to assist the international coalition led by Washington in combating terrorism.

And US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose sanctions on Baghdad after the parliament voted to remove foreign forces, on condition that Baghdad pays Washington the cost of building its air base.

"If Iraq demands the departure of American forces and this is not done on an amicable basis, we will impose sanctions on them they have never seen before. Iran's sanctions will be a small thing next door," Trump said.

And the region is witnessing an unprecedented tension, after an assassination operation carried out by the United States targeting the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in an air strike in a plane that dawned last Friday, in the vicinity of Baghdad Airport, to threaten the Iranian government An "overwhelming" cold to avenge Soleimani.

The leaders of the armed factions will meet during the next 24 to form a united front against America

The leaders of the armed factions will meet during the next 24 to form a united front against America

Baghdad / Al-Ghad Press

The spokesperson for the al-Nujaba movement, Nasr al-Shammari, revealed today, Tuesday, that a unified conference of "Islamic Resistance" leaders will be held today or tomorrow to announce a united front against America.

Al-Shammari said in a statement, "Tomorrow Press" received a copy of it, "There is a meeting held by the leaders of the Iraqi Islamic Resistance within the next 24 hours, in order to announce a united front against the American presence."

He described America as "deceptive, untrustworthy, and an aggressor country," noting that "Washington made great efforts to deceive Iraqi society with the aim of creating a rift in Iraqi-Iranian strategic relations, but it failed to achieve this."

Al-Shammari continued, "We were never confident in America's actions in Iraq, but unlike America, Iran stood by our side in the most difficult circumstances, and the American presence in Iraq was harmful to security operations to confront ISIS, as it represented great harm at all levels."

He emphasized that "the American aggression against the popular crowd was the zero hour to start the war against the resistance, and we will fight a war against the American military presence at every point in the region that we can reach."

He added, "We are ready to fight the United States and the martyrdom of some of us will not change anything in the equation, and the pain we will cause to the United States will be befitting the blood of the martyrs."

He explained, "The resistance has incurred heavy losses to the American forces in Iraq, as it previously pushed them out of Iraq. It is better for us to be as factions of resistance a single entity to deal with Washington."

"America is the true source of state terrorism," he said, adding, "We have been in contact with Hezbollah and Iran since 2003 and none of us has asked for a single position."

Al-Shammari stressed that "the battle has now moved to the heart of Washington's allies in the region, which are pushing towards targeting us, because the United States does not expect the extent of our revenge for the blood of the martyrs."

He pointed out that "Trump's threats about his claim of a fine in Iraq in the event of withdrawal from the security agreement, and he can impose unilateral sanctions only on Iraq if he obtains a mandate from Congress, which is difficult."

He stressed that "Trump is asking for the price of building his military base in Iraq, although this base violated the sovereignty of Iraq and was not built at the request of Baghdad."

A spokesman for Al-Najaba described the bombing of the Green Zone with a number of shells as a "suspicious operation", stressing that "it has nothing to do with the resistance and it is likely to be carried out by the Americans themselves. The American embassy will be an easy target for us. "

He pointed out that Al-Shammari "The American embassy in Baghdad and the military base are a spy nest for the American intelligence and the Mossad," adding that "thousands of American Marines are present in this embassy, and they are a potential target for us."

He declared that "the response to the aggression started with the decision of the Iraqi parliament, and that the security agreement with Washington has become an illusion," explaining that "the parliament decision is binding and does not allow any American soldier to remain in Iraq."

Al-Shammari concluded by saying that "Adel Abdul-Mahdi's abuse of the American procedures was good, and the US State Department was disappointed."

35 killed in stampede at Soleimani's funeral in Iran

2020-637139941628797302-879

A stampede erupted on Tuesday at a funeral procession for a top Iranian general killed in a U.S. airstrike last week, killing 35 people and injuring 48 others, state television reported.

According to the report, the stampede took place in Kerman, the hometown of Revolutionary Guard Gen.Qassem Soleimani, as the procession got underway. Initial videos posted online showed people lying lifeless on a road, others shouting and trying to help them.

Iranian state TV gave the casualty toll in its online report, without saying where it obtained the information. Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran's emergency medical services, earlier spoke by telephone to state TV and confirmed the stampede took place.
"Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions," he said.
A procession in Tehran on Monday drew over 1 million people in the Iranian capital, crowding both main thoroughfares and side streets in Tehran.

Soleimani's death has sparked calls across Iran for revenge against Americafor a slaying that's drastically raised tensions across the Middle East.

Early Tuesday, the leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened to "set ablaze" places supported by the United States over the killing of a top Iranian general in a U.S. airstrike last week, sparking cries from the crowd of supporters of "Death to Israel!" Hossein Salami made the pledge before a crowd of thousands gathered in a central square in Kerman before a casket carrying Soleimani's remains.

The outpouring of grief was an unprecedented honor for a man viewed by Iranians as a national hero for his work leading the Guard's expeditionary Quds Force.

The U.S. blames him for the killing of American troops inIraq and accused him of plotting new attacks just before his death Friday in a drone strike near Baghdad's airport.Soleimani also led forces in Syria backing President Bashar Assad in a long war, and he also served as the point man for Iranian proxies in countries like Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.

His slaying already has pushed Tehran to abandon the remaining limits of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers as his successor and others vow to take revenge. In Baghdad, the parliament has called for the expulsion of all American troops from Iraqi soil, something analysts fear could allow Islamic State militants to mount a comeback.

The U.S. Air Force has performed a huge show of strength by launching 52 fully-armed Lightning II stealth fighters in a single wave from a base in Utah.

The F-35A aircraft, which are worth a total of $4.2 billion, took off in quick succession from the Hill Air Force Base in Utah on Monday as tensions mount in the Middle East over the killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

Fifty two is the number of American diplomats and civilians seized by Iran during the 1979 hostage crisis, and the number of targets that Trump has threatened to strike in Iran if the regime retaliates over Soleimani's death.

The exercise was carried out by the active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings, which said it showed the Air Force's ability to deploy a large force of the F-35As.

The Fighter Wings revealed on Monday that the F-35As have now finally reached full war-fighting capability.

'We're ready to fly, fight, and win,' the 419th Fighter Wings tweeted after the exercise.

They added the exercise 'pushed the boundaries and tested our Airmen's ability to deploy the F-35As en masse'.

The 388th Fight Wingers said: 'The exercise, which was planned for months, demonstrated their ability to employ a large force of F-35As – testing readiness in the areas of personnel accountability, aircraft generation, ground operations, flight operations, and combat capability against air and ground targets.

'A little more than four years after receiving their first combat-coded F-35A Lightning II aircraft, Hill’s fighter wings have achieved full warfighting capability.'

Each F-35A fighter is worth about $89.2 million.

The U.S. received its first F-35A at the Hill Air Force Base four years ago.

Since then, the Fighter Wings have been training pilots, engaging in multiple large combat exercises and supporting two Middle East combat deployments.

'Every training opportunity, exercise and deployment we've completed over the past four years has been a key stepping stone in reaching full warfighting capability,' Col. Steven Behmer, 388th Fighter Wing commander, said.

'This is just the beginning of sustained F-35A combat operations and we will remain focused on staying ready to deploy whenever, wherever we're needed.'

The Air Force deployed its F-35A stealth fighter jets to the Middle East for the first time ever last year.

At least six F-35As from the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings left the Hill Air Force Base in April 2019 en route to the Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.

The Air Force said at the time that the fighters would be participating in coalition air operations targeting ISIS militants.

While they were the first U.S. Air Force-operated F35As to enter to Middle East, they weren't new to the region with Israel already operating 12 of the jets.

The model is billed as the most advanced military aircraft ever sent into the skies.

The Air Force has previously boasted that the jet 'improves lethality, survivability and adaptability against emerging threats in order to maintain air superiority'.

The F-35A is the conventional takeoff and landing variant version of the jet, and the first of the three versions to enter full service.

The F-35B, which is capable of vertical take-off and landing, only recently entered service.

Meanwhile the F-35C, which specializes in aircraft carrier operations, has consistently fallen behind in testing.

The F-35 is the first to combine radar-evading stealth technology with supersonic speeds and the ability to conduct short take-offs and vertical landings.

It has the ability to operate from land and sea and has previously been hailed as a huge leap forward in aerospace technology.

The Fighter Wings on Monday insisted that the training exercise was not a result of heightened tensions with Iran following the U.S. drone strike that killed top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds Force.

Esmail Ghaani, the general who replaced Qassem Soleimani after he was killed, has since vowed to take revenge as part of the fallout over the U.S. strike.

Iran stood by our side in the most difficult circumstances, and the American presence in Iraq was harmful to security operations to confront ISIS, as it represented great harm at all levels."
