IS Prison Wherein Yezidis Detained Found in Mosul

MOSUL — A prison for Yezidi women has been located in western Mosul, said Iraq’s Ministry of Defense on Sunday.

The prison, located in the 17 Tamuz district, was managed by the Islamic State (IS), said the Iraqi officials, according Iraqi News.

The religious minority has been under constant persecution by the terrorist group since they managed to capture a large portion of the country’s territory in 2014.

Currently, the Iraqi forces along with the US-led international anti-IS coalition are battling to oust IS militants from western Mosul’s Old City neighborhood.  The operation began on October 17, 2016. Eastern Mosul was declared liberated in January, with the operation advancing into the western part of the city in February.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government troops began Sunday the invasion of western Mosul’s Old City district, the last Is bastion in the region, military media reported.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the army’s 9th division consummated the recapture of Zanjili district from the south, and invaded Bab Sinjar, one of the entrances of the Old City, the medieval area home to the Grand Nuri Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader proclaimed the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

Iraqi troops recaptured Zanjili on Saturday and made incursions in neighboring al-Shifa district, killing dozens of militants and destroying several combat  equipment. Both were the last regions remaining under IS control around the Old City.

Commanders from the Iraqi leadership and the allied U.S.-led coalition say there are less than 1000 fighters remaining in the Old City, but holding at least 200.000 civilians captives in dire conditions and shooting dead those who attempt to flee.

Iraqi government forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting, and aimed at the western side of the city starting February 19th.

The conflict has displaced at least 800.000 civilians since the start of the campaign to retake the city in October, according to Iraqi migration authorities’ figures.

In a statement, the Center said it renews its commitment to neutrality when covering stories of the battles and the other issues. Our aim is nothing but the truth, the statement concluded.

Iraqi Forces launched a major offensive on 19th of February to retake the western part of Mosul after declaring total control of the eastern part of the city on 24th of January as part of the military operations to liberate the city that started on 17th of October 2016

Here is a link to a map showing ISIS now only holds the Old District Of Western Mosul:

https://isis.liveuamap.com/

You may have to zoom into the Mosul area.

Looks like what ISIS holds of the Old City is about 6,000 feet x 4,000 feet that is about 550 acres (less than a section of land) or about 0.86 square miles.

Looks like Old Mosul can be taken from all sides now if an amphibious assault is launched from the Tigris River, too. Ah, maybe they'll stick to the land ops.

Good Mornin' Everybody! Hope your coffee, is hot, fresh, plentiful, and just the way you like it this morning and you don't get interrrupted so you can actually drink it all!!!

Go Moola Nova!

Here is a link to a map that states there are nominally 500 local ISIS and nominally 250 foreign ISIS remaining in Old Mosul:

https://maps.southfront.org/military-situation-in-iraqi-city-of-mosul-on-june-13-2017-map-update/

This map shows more territory held by ISIS than the map I just posted previously. There is nominally one ISIS militant for every acre of land. An acre of land is 43,560 square feet or 208.71 feet x 208.71 feet. The land perimeter of the Old City ISIS holds is about 6,000 feet x 4,000 feet x 6,000 feet or 16,000 feet total. If ISIS militants were spread evenly on the perimeter, they would be about 21 feet apart.

With all the IDF drones and desperate people, I suspect locating the ISIS militants should be fairly easy. For a variety of different reasons, especially the dire conditions of the civilians in Old Mosul, I pray this will end quickly and the restoration to begin.

GM Synopsis and all of DV, articles states that approx 1000 ISIS still remain from what I saw a couple days ago in Mosul. Also a few article states when the announcement that Mosul is liberated the supposedly Celebration week Articles won't happen, due to the conditions of all those that are displaced and lack of monies. They may celebrate in conjunction with another holiday with the announcement or next year, but with situation as it is they feel it inappropriate at the time.

Good morning Yota, makes sense. A celebration probably would not be in line with the folks still suffering, I would imagine that they will celebrate anyway once word travels around from neighborhood to neighborhood that they have been liberated. A national celebration will be pending, and what a party that will be. Viva iraq !!!!!!!!! :twothumbs:

I agree, Wiljor!

Maybe EID al-Fitr will be it at the end of Ramadan that is nominally Saturday, June 24. Depending on how the rest of the ISIS battles go in other parts of Iraq, a majority of the Syrian/Iraq border could be secured as well as Old Mosul taken by EID al-Fitr this year. This may all kick off the major reconstruction effort. News has been pretty quiet on the Strategic Framework Agreement between the US and Iraq lately so I surmise some key elements need to fall in place for the SFA to be kicked off in full force that may or may not be limited to ISIS issues. Looks like international entities are hot and heavy on prosecuting Nouri al-Maliki so maybe some maneuvering in Iraq to make ole Nouri the odd man completely out of office and ripe 'n ready for prosecution! The "delete the zeros" project has been pretty quiet, too. The "delete the zeros" project was supposed to be implemented "early 2017". Well, hey, after June 24, there are nominally 6 days left of "early 2017"! We'll see what the news brings! Kinda like your little kids - if you don't hear them then ya gotta check 'em out since they are likely in, or about to be in, trouble! Trouble here would probably be some big announcement of some sort and my post event initiative will get kicked in. Well, OK, I invite that trouble!
