Iraqi Army recaptures villages in western Mosul

Units of the 15th Brigade in the Iraqi Army have recaptured villages of al-Zanazil, Abu Kodoor and Kanisah, located east of al-Kask-al-Mahlabiya road in western Mosul, "We Are Coming, Nineveh" Operations Command's War Media Cell said on Friday.

It noted that soldiers of these units raised the Iraqi flag over the governmental buildings of these villages.

Currently, the units are combing the villages located in the western axis to liberate other villages in Kask.

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after eight months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City's districts.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.

An Iraqi Parliamentary member from Diyala governorate revealed that 'covert' kidnappings are currently the main fund source for ISIS terrorists inside the governorate.

In a press statement, the MP Furat al-Tamimi said that ISIS terrorists opted for a new method to fund its armed cells by carrying out kidnapping operations in certain areas to blackmail the kidnapped persons' families.

Most of the families don't report these kidnappings for fear of their relatives' safety, Tamimi added.

Surgical intelligence operations must be carried out to cleanse ISIS' sleeper cells in governorate, the MP asserted.

Fate of 3,000 Yezidi Abductees Yet Unknown: Official

ERBIL — The fate of more than 3,000 Yezidis, mostly women and children, abducted by the Islamic State (IS) extremist group in 2014, is still unknown, the mayor of Sinjar district Mahma Khalil told BasNews on Thursday. He described the process of liberating Mosul from IS as incomplete without determining the fate of those abducted Yezidis.

Khalil said in a press conference held in the district of Sinjar that "IS had kidnapped 6,417 Yezidis of different age groups in Sinjar when it overran the region in 2014."

He noted that the fate of most of the abductees are yet unknown that they have asked Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for help to rescue them.

IS militants attacked and invaded Sinjar, the Yezidi majority region, on August 3rd, 2014 and committed massacres against the community, which the United Nations called genocide.

According to the latest statistics, around 3,000 Yezidi abductees have so far been liberated from the grip of the militants with the help of Kurdistan Regional Government prime minister’s office for Yezidi abductees’ affairs.

The UN said today that Islamic State group jihadists may be holding more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians as human shields in the Old City of Mosul. Iraqi forces are fighting to retake Mosul from IS, after the jihadist group overran the city in 2014, imposing its brutal rule on its inhabitants. The UN refugee agency’s representative in Iraq Bruno Geddo said IS had been capturing civilians in battles outside of Mosul and had been forcing them into the Old City, one of the last parts of the city in their grip. “More than 100,000 civilians may still be held in the Old City,” Geddo told reporters in Geneva. “We know that ISIS moved them with them as they left… locations where the fighting was going on,” he said, using another acronym for IS, which is also known as Daesh or ISIL. “These civilians are basically held as human shields in the Old City.” With virtually no food, water or electricity left in the area, the civilians are “living in an increasingly worsening situation of penury and panic,” he said. “They are surrounded by fighting on every side.” Snipers meanwhile try to kill anyone trying to leave the area under jihadist control, he said, adding that the few who manage to escape are “deeply traumatised.”

I think last week they said next Fri or Sat should be total liberation which really meant last week, but that didn't happen Didn't read this week if they said next Fri or Sat again.  So we must have another "next" for this week, sounds sorta better then "soon". I hope I can remember the true meaning of "next". Wonder how many of you I confused with writing  this  :confused2: seems I've had too many :drunk:

An Iraqi MP said on Friday ISIS terrorists would most probably carry out fresh terror attacks in Diyala governorate in retaliation of their military defeats in Mosul and Anbar, The Baghdad Post reported.

In a statement, MP Abdul Aziz Hassan from the Committee on Security and Defense Affairs said "the terror group would seek to prove its presence through new terrorist attacks".

The US-backed Iraqi army announced it was about to fully liberate Mosul from ISIS terrorists.

An offensive code-named ' We Are Coming, Nineveh' started February 19th. Iran-allied IMIS militias back the Iraqi army.

"ISIS terrorists will change tactics through terrorist attacks in some areas, particularly Diyala, after the imminent recapture of Mosul and their defeats in Ramadi," Hassan said.

"ISIS terrorists are totally frustrated, but they try in various ways to cover their losses at the hands of the joint security forces in Mosul and other areas," he added.

Qayara residents demand ejection of ISIS relatives

Calls for expelling ISIS relatives
Calls for expelling ISIS relatives

Dozens of Qayara district, located south of Nineveh, residents held a vigil on Friday demanding the ejection of relatives of ISIS terrorists from the area.

Families of those killed due to the attacks waged by the terror group on the area demanded those ISIS relatives to be expelled 'as a punishment for their silence towards the crimes committed by their nephews.

These demands come as part of score-settling among tribes, an officer in the ranks of the federal police said, adding: "these are internal dispute in which we will not interfere."

He further noted: We will not take sides since they are residents of the same district."

On his part, Aziz al-Sinjari, a leader of IMIS in Qayara, said the decision could not be taken that way. We are not supportive of the step.

All members of ISIS terrorists' families are not necessarily terror-oriented, Aziz indicated.

You can find a wife of an ISIS terrorist who was always at odds with him due to his ideology, he continued.
He concluded:"Therefore, we should not punish those people for the crimes committed by those lunatic fringes."

Qayara is a tribal district in the province of Nineveh located on the road connecting Erbil with Mosul.

It was the first area to be liberated since launching the military operation to liberate Mosul last October.
