With the liberation of Mosul imminent, the international community must maintain a dual focus on defeating the remaining ISIS terrorists in Iraq, and on working towards post-conflict security and reconstruction, the United Nations envoy for Iraq Jan Kubis told the Security Council.

Kubis went on to stress that the imminent defeat of ISIS must also provide an urgent impetus to address the needs of minorities, especially their ability to return to their homes.
 

The return of all internally displaced persons to all liberated areas must be a top priority, as should tackling increasing incidents of kidnapping and paying sustained attention to upcoming elections in 2017 and 2018.
 

“National reconciliation can only succeed if it reflects the aspirations of the population, including women and youth,” he said.
 

Kubis also Urged Baghdad and Erbil to leverage their joint efforts against ISIS and to address such issues as border disputes and building a “functional federation” based on partnership, Kubis noted that senior officials in Kurdistan recently announced their intention to hold a referendum on the region's future later in 2017.
 

They had indicated, he continued, that their aim was to “show the world the will of the people” on the status of Kurdistan, rather than assert independence immediately.
 

Noting that the overall rule of law remained weak, Kubis said kidnapping was becoming an increasing problem, recalling that the National Intelligence Cell had met on 11 May to discuss the link between terrorism and organized crime, including kidnapping. The international community must vigorously pursue accountability for crimes committed by ISIS in Iraq, he said.
 

Meanwhile, the issue of internally displaced persons remained critical, with some 700,000 people having fled their homes since mid-October, he noted. Hundreds of thousands of others remain in ISIS-controlled areas, suffering lack of food and water and often finding themselves caught in crossfire.

Only 7 neighborhoods 'not liberated' in Mosul's right bank – official

Only seven out of 54 neighborhoods have not liberated in Mosul's right bank, a local official in Nineveh Governorate confirmed on Tuesday.   

In a press statement, Hassan Sabaawi, a member of Nineveh Governorate council, said that 47 out of 45 neighborhoods have been liberated in Mosul's right bank. 

He noted that only seven neighborhoods and small parts of other districts have not be freed yet.   

Military operations are in their final stages, he stated, revealing that declaring the full liberation of Mosul city from ISIS' grip is imminent.   

He added that the situation in Mosul's left bank is gradually stabilizing after rehabilitating most of the districts and disposing of remnants of war against ISIS. 

Sabaawi also pointed out that the mindset of Iraqi people has changed.

 He said that they are currently cooperating with the security forces, adding this was not the case in the past years.  

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and half of its western part after six months of battles.
 
It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.

20 terrorist killed in airstrikes in Mosul

Iraqi jets, aided by the US-led coalition, have killed 20 terrorists engaged in terror attacks on Basra and Baghdad.

The air raids, conducted on al-Qaem in Mosul's right bank,  killed several top ISIS leaders in charge of booby trapping vehicles and suicide bombers.

This comes as the Iraqi forces are continuing their push on the terror group in the right bank of Mosul with the aid of the US-led coalition since February 19th.

Iraqi forces have downed an ISIS drone west of Anbar, defense ministry said Tuesday.

The 1st Division of the Iraqi army managed to shoot down a drone possessed by ISIS terrorists in the districts of al-Ratba west of Anbar.

this comes the Iraqi forces are pushing on the terror group of ISIS in the right bank of Mosul with the aid of the US-led coalition since February 19th.

ISIS chooses Hawija as new HQ after fall of Mosul

ISIS top leaders have opened new alternative headquarters at Hawija city in Kirkuk governorate, a local source in Kirkuk governorate said on Tuesday.
 

The source asserted that ISIS terrorists have turned Hawija courthouse into their main headquarters.
 

Hawija has become ISIS new stronghold after the group was splintered into two group, one in Tal Afar, al-Ba'aj, while the other group fled to Hawija.
 

This comes as Iraqi forces recapture most of the right bank of Mosul neighborhood, ISIS' main stronghold in Iraq.

 

Military operations in Nineveh governorate, launched last October, have reached their final stages after liberating most of the governorate districts from ISIS grip.

IMIS recaptures Qayrawan after turning city into ruins

Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) announced on Tuesday that it has recaptured western Nineveh after an 11 days siege that left the city in ruins due to random shelling.
 

In a statement, IMIS leader Hadi al-Amiri said that IMIS recaptured all of al-Qayrawan in one swift operation, noting that the militias also captured Om Amer, Huzeil.
 

The first stage of Mohamed Rasoul Allah operation has been accomplished after liberating Qayrawan, paving the way to start its second stage, IMIS deputy leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
 

In a statement on IMIS website, Muhandis stressed that the militias are now using preemptive strikes to liberate ISIS-held areas.
 

IMIS militias are sponsored, curated by Iran, have been accused of numerous sectarian war crimes against Iraqi Sunni Arabs as reported by local and international human rights organizations.

34 IS Militants Killed in Western Anbar

ERBIL— In the past 48 hours Iraqi forces, backed by the Iraqi and international coalition's warplanes, eliminated 34 members of the Islamic State (IS) organization in Anbar province, according to a report.

Iraq War Media Cell reported on Tuesday that three vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) as well as two vehicles for carrying the heavy weaponry and several boats were also crushed.

In addition to that, some 70 IED were neutralized in the process.

The troops from the 7^th Division, Commandos of the Jazira Operations Command and Tribal Mobilized Forces (Hashd) participated in the operation.

According to the report offensives were launched against  IS locations in northern banks of Qadisiyah River towards Rawa, the southern bank of the Euphrates towards Reyhanah, Ana and the Huran Valley in western parts of Anbar.

15-year-old Yezidi Girl Freed from IS in Mosul

DUHOK — Another Kurdish Yezidi girl who was abducted by the Islamic State (IS) militants more than two years ago in her town near Sinjar, Iraq, is now free from the grips of the extremists, Kurdistan Region’s Directorate of Yezidi Abductees’ Affairs in Duhok confirmed.

Director Hussein Qa’idi told BasNews that the girl, 15, was freed in Mosul in a joint effort between Peshmerga and local security forces.

Qa’idi said that the Yezidi girl is expected to arrive in Duhok on Tuesday night after which his office will reunite her with her family in Eisan IDP camp near Shekhan, Duhok province.

Only in the last week, 12 Yezidi women and children have been liberated from IS, Qa’idi said. Earlier on Monday, BasNews reported the rescue of a 10-year-old Yezidi girl who was reunited with her family on Tuesday.

The Kurdish official however said still more than 3,000 Yezidis are suffering at the hand of IS, and that the Kurdistan Region authorities will spare no effort to bring them back to safety.

LEEDS — At least 13 Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaani were killed in the fight to recapture the Islamic State (IS)-held al-Qayrawan, in western Mosul, on Tuesday. 

Mohammad Reda al-Hassani, commander in the Shi'ite militia, told Anadolu Agency that at least another 9 militants were injured in the clashes, which continue from Monday. 

He further added that 41 IS militants had also been killed in the battle. 

The Hashd al-Shaabi has been supporting the Iraqi forces in their fight against IS since the start of the operation in October 2016. However, their participation in the efforts to retake the Sunni city of Mosul has been opposed by local tribal leaders who argue their presence in the city provokes sectarian conflicts.

I dread to think how tough it will be for the Yazidi females after enduring capture by those cockroaches.    Life as a Muslum female is tough enough even before this atrosity. I just hope their families and communities will show them the support they need.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:00 P.M.) – 43 ISIS fighers have been neutralized by the Iraqi Armed Forces through coordinated government attacks in western Anbar, a source told Al-Masdar News on Tuesday. Many of the deceased ISIS members were said to be suicide bombers.

The military campaign was led armored elements of the Iraqi Army’s 7th Division and heavily assisted by the Iraqi Air Force which was given coordinates of numerious ISIS targets throughout the 48-hour operation.

Among the ISIS deathtoll were around a dozen jihadist commanders, including the Islamic State deputy governor of Baghdad. These ISIS members were killed during a series of air raids on Al-Qaim, an ISIS stronghold on the Euphrates River not far from the Syrian border.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:00 A.M.) – Last night, the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated the small city of Qayrawan in a swift overnight operation against the Islamic State. The sound military plan was masterminded by PMU commander-in-chief Hadi Al-Amari.

Prior to its capture, Qayrawan was surrounded on three flanks but the PMU left open a small route of escape in western Nineveh which ISIS took advantage of, withdrawing most of its fighters from the jihadist bastion before its takeover.

In addition, the PMU liberated the nearby villages of Tall Banat and Tall Kasab where they engaged and killed many ISIS insurgents at the Sinjar road:

New bridge reunites Mosul as Iraqi forces gear up for final assault

 

 

Iraqi military engineers installed a new floating bridge across the Tigris river on Wednesday, reconnecting the two halves of Mosul to facilitate troop deployments ahead of a final assault to dislodge ISIS, Reuters reported.
 

All five bridges connecting the two sides of the city bisected by the Tigris were struck by the US-led coalition in order to hinder the militants' movements in the early stages of the campaign to retake Mosul last year.

 

Seven months on, Iraqi forces have removed ISIS from all but a pocket of territory in the western half of Mosul, including the Old City, where the militants are expected to make their last stand.

 It is set to be the most complex battleground yet.

 "This floating bridge is very important for deploying reinforcements to the west side rapidly to build up adequate forces to sweep the Old City soon," Colonel Haitham al-Taie told Reuters.

 Taie said the bridge in the Hawi al-Kaneesa area would also spare fleeing civilians from making a long journey to the nearest crossing point, about 30 km south of Mosul.

 The United Nations said last week up to 200,000 more people may flee as Iraqi forces push to retake the rest of the city.

 The militants are effectively holding hundreds of thousands of civilians hostage as human shields to slow their advance.

Federal declares to break into the old city of Mosul Ayman in the coming hours

Federal deputy police chief Maj. Gen. Jaafar al-Battat revealed that the next few hours will break into the old city of several axes and the liberation of the remaining neighborhoods in the right coast of the city of Mosul from the terrorist organization Daesh.

 

He pointed to his cross Mrbd to end all federal cuts and rapid response preparations for the start of the process of intrusion if the zero hour by the commander of the armed forces Haider al-Abadi to complete the second page of the second phase of operations are coming Aaninoy.

 

As Battat pointed out that federal cuts are currently stationed in the northern and southern axes of the old city, announced the opening of five safe corridors for the displacement of civilians from the area three of them in the southern axis and the two passages in the North, noting that it will be dropped leaflets on civilians in the region later to guide them to go about those passages if they wish to displacement towards the safe areas.

 

He noted to open the sixth corridor represents the establishment of a bridge over the Tigris River along the 200 meters to cross the displaced from the right side of the connector toward Acer city as well as wheels support for military cuts that are fighting to eliminate the terrorists on the right coast of the passage, expected to nearby roads leading insurance is completed to the bridge of both ends of coasts on Wednesday by the anti-terrorism forces.

 

With regard to the numbers of terrorists who are in the old city and the neighborhoods that are still under the control of Daesh predicted deputy federal police chief to surpass those numbers a thousand terrorist, holed up inside the neighborhoods, which includes inside more than 150 thousand citizens represented by district healing and Zndjeli health old and Mosul, which contains the viewing area and the door new brick door, according to intelligence information received by the security services.
