Iraqi Lawmaker  Mahassen Hamdoun on Wednesday accused security forces of fostering terror among civilians in Mosul city.

In a press conference, Hamdoun said that security forces posted at checkpoints in Mosul deliberately delay civilians, returning to the liberated areas, during self-inspection although they were already subjected to several inspections before arriving in Mosul.

The deliberate mistreatment is considered kind of terrorism, she added, noting that Nineveh residents were freed from ISIS terrorists to suffer the poor treatment of Iraqi security forces.

An updated version of Mosul's map showing the latest developments in the battle to oust ISIS from occupied districts in the city's right bank has been obtained by The Baghdad Post on Wednesday.

On the map, the spots marked in green represent the previously ISIS-held areas that have been liberated.

As the map shows, the white spots represent the parts of the war-torn city where ISIS is still controlling.

In Mosul, there are areas still witnessing clashes between the Iraqi forces, backed by international coalition, and ISIS terrorists. They are marked in orange on the map.

Only seven out of 54 neighborhoods have not liberated in Mosul's right bank, a local official in Nineveh Governorate confirmed on Tuesday.

On Tusday, ISIS executed seven of its top leaders in Mosul upon their attempt to escape Mosul battles, a security source said.

In a statement, the Center said it renews its commitment to neutrality when covering stories of the battles and the other issues. Our aim is nothing but the truth, the statement concluded.

Publishing the maps relating to the progress of the Iraqi forces in Mosul is done after contacts with multiple military sources and local officials, it added.

Iraqi Forces launched a major offensive on 19th of February to retake the western part of Mosul after declaring total control of the eastern part of the city on 24th of January as part of the military operations to liberate the city that started on 17th of October 2016.

New bridge reunites Mosul as Iraqi forces gear up for final assault

New bridge reunites Mosul as Iraqi forces gear up for final assault
New bridge reunites Mosul as Iraqi forces gear up for final assault

Iraqi military engineers installed a new floating bridge across the Tigris river on Wednesday, reconnecting the two halves of Mosul to facilitate troop deployments ahead of a final assault to dislodge ISIS, Reuters reported.

All five bridges connecting the two sides of the city bisected by the Tigris were struck by the US-led coalition in order to hinder the militants' movements in the early stages of the campaign to retake Mosul last year.

Seven months on, Iraqi forces have removed ISIS from all but a pocket of territory in the western half of Mosul, including the Old City, where the militants are expected to make their last stand.

It is set to be the most complex battleground yet.

"This floating bridge is very important for deploying reinforcements to the west side rapidly to build up adequate forces to sweep the Old City soon," Colonel Haitham al-Taie told Reuters.

Taie said the bridge in the Hawi al-Kaneesa area would also spare fleeing civilians from making a long journey to the nearest crossing point, about 30 km south of Mosul.

The United Nations said last week up to 200,000 more people may flee as Iraqi forces push to retake the rest of the city.

The militants are effectively holding hundreds of thousands of civilians hostage as human shields to slow their advance.

Iraqi Forces Control 97% of West Mosul, 350 IS Militants Remaining

MOSUL — A federal police officer said on Wednesday that dozens of Islamic State (IS) men were killed and three car bombs were detonated following the incursion into the al-Zanjili neighborhood in west Mosul.

Capt. Ahmed al-Obeidi told Basnews that "Police forces stormed the Zanjili neighborhood and penetrated its alleys, killing dozens of armed men, including three suicide bombers."

"Security forces also found three car bombs and managed to detonate them remotely," said the official.

The Nineveh Provincial Council revealed that about 350 IS militants are remaining in the western half of Mosul, and that the security forces control about 97% of the total western part of the city.

Hussam al-Abbar, member of Nineveh Provincial Council said "the number of remaining IS militants in west Mosul is estimated to be only 350."

The anti-terrorism forces liberated al-Najjar neighborhood in west Mosul on Tuesday, said Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, a spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, noting that "the security forces control about 97% of west Mosul."

He added that the liberation of the entire city will be completed before the end of this month.

The Iraqi forces backed by the US-led coalition launched a massive offensive against the IS militants in west Mosul back in February this year, as part of the wider operation for liberating the city of Mosul. The operation was launched in October 2016, and the entire eastern part was declared liberated and up to 97% of western Mosul has been recaptured up to this point.
