SULAIMANI — Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi accepted the letters of resignation from all 73 MPs from the Sadrist Movement on Sunday (June 12), days after the leader of the bloc, Muqtada al-Sadr, requested the ministers to prepare to resign.

Sadr called on MPs from the movement to present on Sunday their letters of resignation to the leader of the Sadrist Movement’s bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Hassan al-Azari. He also thanked the components of his Saving the Homeland alliance in parliament for their work in the movement and for the sake of the country.

Sadr said in a speech on Thursday the movement will not participate in forming a corrupt and biased government and asked for the party’s MPs to prepare their letters of resignation.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi on Sunday accepted the resignation of members of the Sadrist parliamentary bloc, referring to efforts to dissuade Sadrist leader Moqtada From the move.

"At the will of Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr, we reluctantly accepted the requests of our brothers and sisters, the deputies of the Sadrist bloc, to resign from the Iraqi Parliament," al-Halbousi said in a tweet seen by Shafaq News.

"We have made a sincere and sincere effort to dissuade (Sadr) from this step, but he chose to be sacrificed and not a broken cause, for the sake of the country and the people, so he saw the continuation of this decision," al-Halbousi said.

Sadr on Sunday thanked his allies in the "Save a Homeland" coalition and said they were "in a solution from me" and shortly afterwards, al-Halbousi appeared in a video signing requests for the resignation of sadrist bloc deputies.

Sadr, who completes the "Save the Homeland" coalition triangle (Kurdistan Democratic Party, Sadrist bloc, and sovereignty), last Thursday waved to remain in opposition or withdraw completely from the political process, unless a government constitutes a "national majority", as directed by members of his parliamentary bloc, to write their resignations in preparation for submission to the presidency of parliament.

The Commission: the replacements of the Sadrist bloc's representatives who were the highest losers in the electoral district

9-1655059573.jpg

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq suspended the Sadrist bloc's submission of their resignations from the House of Representatives, while revealing a surprise about the replacements, who will take their place in the Council.

The resignation of the Sadrist bloc's deputies came in response to an invitation addressed to them by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, where Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi signed the resignations, in the presence of the head of the parliamentary bloc, Hassan al-Adhari.

An official source in the Electoral Commission said that the Commission has not yet received anything official regarding the resignation of the Sadrist bloc's deputies, in order to present their replacements to the House of Representatives, for the purpose of taking the constitutional oath.

The source added that the replacements of the Sadrist bloc's representatives will be the highest losers in the electoral district, regardless of the candidate's affiliation with any bloc whatsoever, pointing out that the election law confirmed that the replacement of any representative is the next with the highest votes, away from the bloc to which he belongs.

He pointed out that the commission will collect the names and numbers of the Sadrist bloc's replacements, as they are not yet known, and this matter needs time, and after receiving the resignation of the deputies officially, to search for replacements in each electoral district from which a Sadrist bloc deputy resigned.

Legal expert Jamal Al-Asadi told Al-Masala, Sunday, June 12, 2022, that the matter does not require the deputies to vote on these resignations, and the Speaker of Parliament cannot legally reject the resignations of the Sadrist bloc deputies.

And he indicated that the approval of the House of Representatives for the resignation of the representatives only gives them the right to retire, and this includes every deputy who has been in the parliamentary session for more than one year, and the Sadrist bloc’s submission of their resignation does not affect the work of the House of Representatives. of any block.

This has got to be more than a political statement? There must be some political process that is triggered with the winning party resigning? It seems like a strange move if it is an empty protest without some tangible results?

It is one thing making a point, but letting other parties put up cronies to fill their spots seems unusual to say the least?

Seems like a scorched earth approach?

Interested to read some political analysis of this tactic, unless early elections are guaranteed?

Iraq will never move forward until they are politically united with a common goal. - That goal is the future of Iraq and it’s citizens

No this does not make any sense, unless this was the game plan all alone to let Iran take control of the

government completely politically. You cannot trust Sadr remember he spent a lot of time few months ago staying in Iran. This ploy of having all the deputies hand in their registration could be away to save grace letting Maliki & his group put in more of their politicians controling Iraq. Just my opinion here where a lot of people will think this is a crazy ideal.

Apparently in Iraq failure is an option. What must the population in Iraq be thinking right about now ????

They were promised much and to that end what I read today, they must be feeling EXTREMELY BETRAYED.

It certainly " appears " as if Sadr just handed Iraq over to the criminal politicians & Iran.

Seems incredulous, what's really going on. This is highly irregular yet here we are.

Either this was an incredible blunder setting up a Parliamentary type government for Iraq or an insidiously clever one knowing full well the cultural & tribal devisive ( & inherent criminal nature ) forces would someday lead to such an event as we see here.

Now I ask myself was the plan all along to ensure long term instability in Iraq & the M.E. ???

At some point quickly we'll see who will benefit from this long term. ( $$$$$ ).

Another source in Baghdad also confirmed that “the international actors in Iraq, led by Iran and the United States, have become aware of the seriousness of the crisis’s tendency to withdraw the Sadrists and take the role of the opposition, because this means the instability of any future government for more than 6 months, with the possibility of friction between them.
