Massoud Barzani rejects a proposal for the presidency of the republic

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) revealed on Tuesday that the former head of the Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani, rejected a proposal to take over the post of president of the republic.

Al-Hayat newspaper quoted the leaders as saying that "Barzani, rejected a proposal to take over the presidency of the Republic, presented by members of the leadership during their meeting recently."

They attributed Barzani's position to the fact that he was "looking for the rights and the gains of the Kurds, not the positions."

For his part, announced the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Shwan Taha, that the negotiations to form a new federal government is tainted by "ambiguity" and lacks "audacity".

In the past few days, Barzani has held a series of meetings with the leaders of the Sunni (winning) lists in the federal elections and Western diplomats in the ongoing efforts to draw the features of the largest parliamentary bloc that will be charged with forming the government.

"We exchanged views and positions, including the terms of participation with all parties, and told everyone that our priority is the government's project," said member of the party's negotiating delegation, Shwan Taha. "Our problem is not with people."

Taha stressed that "each party should outline the mechanism of implementation of its promise, so as not to repeat the mistakes themselves." He added that "everyone remembers what happened in the implementation of agreements and projects concluded in previous elections."

He pointed out that "the wording of the project that will be presented is the criterion of the proximity or after us from any of the parties," pointing out that "our goal is not to achieve gains, but purposes, including the principles of national partnership and consensus away from quotas."

"There is still a lack of clarity in the big winning blocs, and there is no specific working paper that allows us to identify the party closest to us."

Asked whether the dialogues had been stymied by divisions and clashes between parliament and the Electoral Commission over the cancellation of the election results, or re-counting and sorting, Taha said that "the current negotiations seem shy and not bold."

He added that "the problem of Iraq is not the name of the Prime Minister, but we are facing a crisis every day to increase the nature of the problem," adding that "today we are facing the disaster of water shortages that are added to our economic and security crises, which requires the formation of a rational government able even partially to overcome this stage "He said.

"There was an illusion among some parties or regional states that Barzani had ended politically, but he still has the first and last word, and whoever bet on the failure of our party in the elections lost their bet," Taha said.

"Barzani's role does not end once he abandons a position, as a project owner and a century-old struggle, and he sent a message to the local and international public opinion that he has a clear vision of state building."

The Iraqis voted last Saturday (12 May 2018) to elect a new parliament. These elections are the first after the defeat of the terrorist "Da'ash" organization, while the Independent Electoral Commission announced that the participation rate in the elections was 44%.

Newspaper: Abadi gets support for three-quarters of Sunni politicians Iraq and Sadr supports

Since 2018-06-06 at 11:36 (Baghdad time)

Baghdad Mawazine News

Political sources confirmed on Wednesday that the current Prime Minister Haider Abadi support three quarters of the politicians of the year of Iraq to head the next government, pointing out that the leader of the Sadrist sent signals to support Abbadi for a second term. While the sources spoke about the position of the leader of the Democratic Party Massoud Barzani. According to Al-Arab Al-London newspaper.

The main Sunni political figures in Iraq are trying to provide the necessary support to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to remain in office for a second term in the latest images of the transformations of politics in Mesopotamia.

Since the announcement of the results of the general elections, which took place last May, the Sunni political forces conducted consultations with various parties, but did not reach clear understandings. With the exception of the movement led by businessman Gamal Karbouli, most Sunni political parties have agreed to support Abbadi for a second term.

Saleh al-Mutlaq, leader of the Dialogue Front, invited Iftar al-Abadi, who was attended by parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri, leader of the National List Iyad Allawi and representatives of various Sunni political forces, including the coalition led by businessman Khamis al-Khanjar.

A politician who attended the invitation, according to the newspaper, said that "I have seen the notification of Abadi by the Sunni leaders supporting them for a second term."

"Muqtada al-Sadr has sent signals that he is ready to support Abbadi in a second term if he gets enough Sunni support," the politician said.

He added that "resolving the matter of the candidate for the post of prime minister, would mean overcoming a major obstacle in the way of a quick formation of a new Iraqi government," revealing that "the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Massoud Barzani, did not mind opening the door to dialogue with Abbadi in the event of support of the year and the chest.

And goes the Iraqi politician, that "to proceed with the construction of this political front, would attract the leader of the Badr Organization Hadi al-Ameri of the Alliance of conquest, to join the largest parliamentary bloc."

The newspaper pointed out that "Abadi has the support of three quarters of the Sunni politicians in Iraq, putting him in a good negotiating position with the Shiite and Kurdish parties."

The newspaper quoted political sources as saying that "Abadi promised the Sunni leaders in the house of Mutlaq to prevent the armed factions from tampering with the security file, and confirmed his readiness in the event of the new government to launch a large-scale reconstruction campaign for Sunni areas destroyed during the era of control of an organization calling on large parts of the country "He said.

The sources added that "the Sunni leaders chose to support Abadi, after they confirmed the support of the international community for his survival."

The sources specify the list of political forces excluded so far from mobility and negotiations to form the largest bloc. The coalition of state law led by Nuri al-Maliki, at the forefront of this list, followed by the movement of Asaib Ahl al-Haq led by Qais al-Khazali, which expanded its gains from one parliamentary seat in the 2014 Parliament to 15 seats in the Parliament 2018, The list also includes the Karbali Party of Solution.

Observers attribute the Sunnis' bet on the current prime minister because they believe Abadi is too weak to dare to abolish the sectarian quota system. It is a losing bet compared to what can be imposed by Sadr on Abadi terms to form the next government, the abolition of the principle of quotas in government jobs first, which will be accepted by Abadi forced in an attempt to get rid of the final threat of Nuri al-Maliki.

The Iraqi political observer, according to the newspaper, that "the Sunni politicians who realized that their presence in the Iraqi political equation has been floating after losing their popular base will be reluctant to join the alliance of Sadr al-Abbadi, unless offered secondary or complementary positions, Show good faith and satisfy the Arab countries still see in the sectarian representation a kind of balance that distanced Iraq from the Iranian axis. "

In the view of the observer that "the logic of Sunni politicians can be considered backward compared to what the Iraqis expect of political change, ending the stage of sectarian strife to begin the stage of reconstruction and building the state and fight corruption and the launch of public freedoms and the restoration of Iraq's relations with its Arab surroundings."

Iraqi elections open file of the conflict with the Tehran regime

In Articles 1  June 6, 2018 on the Iraqi elections open file of the conflict with the Tehran regime closed 24 visits

Khaled Ghazal

The results of the Iraqi elections surprised the powers of power in Tehran. The elections resulted in the victory of parliamentary groups, especially the Muqtada al-Sadr organization, which has fought to raise the banner of Iranian withdrawal from Iraq. The elections also showed that the forces under the control of the Revolutionary Guard and its militias were unable to achieve the majority that allowed them absolute dominance of power, noting that their influence remains essential in the game of governance .

Tehran did not look at these results satisfactorily. Qasim Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, quickly moved to Baghdad, thinking of how to re-mix the cards, ensuring a fully pro-Tehran government. From here began talking about the re-screening of a large number of constituencies under the pretext of fraud or errors, but the actual goal is to seek to modify the results, which brings back to Tehran prevail in the House of Representatives .
There is no doubt that Iranian concern is justified. Iraq was the first stop in its intervention in the Arab region, an intervention that came to the US tank carrier and with its help in 2003, the history of the US occupation of Iraq. From Iraq itself, the Tehran regime crystallized the theory of religious identity in exchange for national and national identity. The mullahs have dealt with Iraq as a group of sects and sects with a long legacy of enmity that remained muted until Tehran ignited its fire from Iraqi soil. Iraq was returned fifteen centuries back. The alternative religious identity of the national identity in Iraq was one of the elements of the armed civil explosion in which the Iraqis paid hundreds of thousands of victims a price. Tehran considered that its victory and permanence depended on the mobilization of religious ideology at the expense of Iraqi nationalism. Tehran understands that Iran has a fundamentalist Persian nationality, which for many years was in contrast to the Arab nationalism to which Iraq belongs, and defeats that Persian nationalism has suffered at the hands of Arabs in previous Arab history. Tehran therefore recognizes that an objective contradiction between the two peoples has its roots in history, geography and politics. Which makes the payment of religious identity the only way to obliterate this national hostility and turn the conflict into sectarian and sectarian. Certainly, Tehran has achieved great achievements in this area, making it push this ideology to the farthest, so this theory moved to Syria and Yemen, not to mention Lebanon.

Iranian concerns do not stem from a vacuum. For years, Iraq has witnessed objections to the Iranian presence and its interference in the administration of the country, has many times led to the organization of demonstrations calling for the exit of Iran, and raised more than once slogans such as "Iran by land," and Iraq Arab, in addition to denouncing the Persian presence, The Arab Persian National. In addition, there is a rise in voices against the looting of Iraqi wealth by Iranian leaders and their involvement in endless files of corruption and the formation of Revolutionary Guards groups that steal wealth. Thus, Tehran began to feel the intertwined Iraqi objections against it, from economic and social files, to objections to the political interventions, to alert the national contradiction between the two countries. Increases Tehran's fears of a regional and international campaign to reduce its regional role and return its influence to Tehran .
What can be expected of Tehran in response to this transformation? Those who believe that Tehran will condone Iraq or reduce its political and military presence will make mistakes. Iraq is the main source of regional power for Tehran, the source of financial and economic investment, and the source of the export of religious ideology of a sectarian nature. We do not forget that the leaders of Tehran considered Baghdad the capital of the Persian Empire. In the face of what looks like a blockade, Tehran will have multiple means to respond. The first is to evoke the political forces inside Iran, from militias, deputies and ministers, and to collect them in a form that guarantees their influence in governance. In this regard, the Iranian-Iraqi network of interests is strong and deeply rooted. As in the case of Iran, the re-establishment of Iraq in the face of sectarian civil war between Sunni and Shiite groups, and the recall of the organization «back« again, which was at the forefront of the launch in the above..
The battle of Tehran in Iraq is an internal Iranian battle, and any defeat will be reflected on the Iranian interior, which is witnessing social, national and sectarian cracks. The battle will become fiercer whenever Tehran senses that the Iraqi situation tends to evoke Arab national sentiment in the face of the Persian tide .

Thank you Yota.......hard to have a total take away on these elections.........

My take away is that the general dissatisfaction with "governments as usual" everywhere..... continued with this election in Iraq.

Sadr represents the poor in Iraq, and therefore his influence will be good......as this government is formed, the poor won't be left behind.

Some months ago Sadr endorsed Abadi, saying he should have a second term.  Sadr is not fond of Maliki.

Sadr Is Pro Iraq, and believes Iran and the US need to back off a bit in their attempts to control Iraq.

Abadi still may have the largest coalition.........but Sadr is set up to have some major influence in putting the team together, which I believe will be good for the average citizens in Iraq......

JMO.......CL

To tired this Friday evening.  to figure it out on my own. A lot of great articles here on this topic. Someone please tell me what are the chances that Maliki and crew can get themselves back in some sort of power. They are nothing but corrupt sob's that got Iraq into the hard times they have dealt with, are dealing with.If Maliki gets back in some kinda power they will suck Iraq dry of cash and a future.
