Thousands of protesters in Salahuddin governorate call for former Prime Minister Nouri al-maliki to be trialed as he is responsible for the death of over 1700 cadets three years ago in Speicher camp.
 

This comes as Salahuddin protesters held 1700 symbolic coffins at al-Tahrir square in Baghdad in the third anniversary of this incident.
 

The protesters held signs calling for the trial of everyone responsible for this massacre, atop of them is Maliki as he was Commander in Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces.
 

On 12 June 2014, ISIS terrorists killed at least 1,700 Air Force cadets in an attack on Camp Speicher in Tikrit.

A member of al-Baghdadi district council in Anbar province, Abdul Jabbar al-Obeidi, said Thursday that "the organization of the preacher of the extremist blew up three towers to transfer electricity between the city of Hit and the province of Baghdadi (90 km west of Ramadi)."

"The fall of these towers led to power outages on the whole of Baghdadi," he said, calling on the Ministry of Electricity to "send teams to maintain the power towers and restore electricity to al-Baghdadi."

It is noteworthy that power towers in Anbar province have been subjected to frequent targeting operations in recent years through the installation of IEDs.

Several civilian society organizations, law makers and popular media figures launched a one million signature campaign to force the government to reveal the truth about Speicher massacre.
 

Over 55 civilian society organizations, law makers and popular media figures formed a coalition of resolution no.38 law from the Iraq constitution to collect one million signatures to reveal the truth about speicher massacre, spokeswoman of the coalition Aya Mansour said.
 

The coalition also calls for the Iraqi government to reveal the real persons responsible for the fall of Mosul in the hands of ISIS terrorists, she added.
 

She asserted that the campaign managed to collect over 20,000 signatures during the last three days.
 

On 12 June 2014, ISIS terrorists killed at least 1,566 Iraqi Air Force cadets in an attack on Camp Speicher in Tikrit.

Launched in Iraq , millions campaign  to demand a UN investigation in the fall of Mosul and the massacre of Spyker, and put the leader of the Sadrist movement  Muqtada al - Sadr signed the first claimants, while the finger directed towards former Prime Minister Nuri al - Maliki .

The document called for , the United Nations and the  Iraqi government, " the formation of a fact - finding committee about what happened in the massacre of Spyker and other massacres and the process of the fall of Mosul and the detection of those involved by," indicating that "the genocide that took place during the fall of Mosul  caused the killing of thousands of young Iraqis." 


The document stressed that "will collect a million signatures condemning the criminals of genocide", demanding that "constitute an independent committee with jurisdiction, shall not be members of belonging to any political party, and that the Committee 's investigation and submit its final report during a brief period of time, determined in advance and inform the people and society international. "

A court in Iraq has sentenced 27 Isis soldiers to death by hanging over their role in a massacre of up to 1,700 army recruits in 2014.

One of Isis’ earliest gruesome propaganda videos was of the execution-style killings at Camp Speicher in northern Iraq when the organisation launched its surprise offensive over the border from Syria in June that year. 

There were between 4,000 - 11,000 cadets stationed at the base near Tikrit when Isis overran it. Isis divided up their captives depending on whether they were Shia, Sunni or non-Muslim, and murdered an estimated 1,095 non-Sunni soldiers, a later inquiry by Iraq’s Human Rights Ministry estimated. The true number of men still missing is not known, but estimates range up to 1,700 people. 

 

 

 

 

Mosul after the war: 'Utter and total devastation'

The victims were trucked to various locations, including a former palace of Saddam Hussein, lined up and shot at point black range, beheaded, or choked to death.

Some bodies were disposed of in the Tigris River, and at least 12 mass graves were discovered when Iraqi coalition forces managed to retake the city and surrounding area in 2015.

As well as this week’s sentencing, 36 Isis members were hanged in August 2016 after being found guilty of the same crime in a mass trial. Another 25 suspects have been released due to a lack of evidence. 

The sentenced men have the right to appeal the court’s decision. 

The death sentences come as rights groups have expressed concern over possible abuses of men accused of being in Isis following the recapture of the city of Mosul, which effectively means the end of Isis' rule in the country.  

More than 5,000 men suspecting of fighting on behalf of the militants are thought to currently being held in overcrowded and stiflingly hot conditions in local prisons. 

“Prisoners are infected with diseases, lots of health and skin problems, because they're not exposed to the sun,” one prison warden told the AP last month, speaking on condition of anonymity. 

“The majority can't walk. Their legs are swollen because they can't move.”

For many Iraqi soldiers and civilians, there is very little sympathy for those accused of fighting with Isis.

But detainees protest their innocence - and organisations such as Human Rights Watch have repeatedly accused Iraqi forces of unlawful interrogations, beatings and even executions of men and boys believed to be Isis which could amount to war crimes.
