They've pretty much nominated and rejected just about everyone in the country. So I hereby nominate Mr. Peanut, as I guess he is out of a job after 100+ years of leadership. I hear he can be smooth or nutty, depending on the circumstances, and able to spread himself around between protesters and GOI. :D

I don't know. I think  Planters has recalled Mr. Peanut because the loss of Kobe and Mr. Peanut in the same week is apparently to much for the world, so Super Bowl ads have been pulled and Mr.  Peanut may have been raised from the dead in a miraculous move of political correctness.

Long live Mr. Peanut!!!!

The Iraqi parliament is preparing to hold an extraordinary session to nominate a "popularly acceptable" prime minister

Shafaq News / Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bashir Al-Haddad, expressed on Thursday the parliament’s readiness to hold an extraordinary session at any time to vote on a new prime minister instead of resigning Adel Abdul Mahdi, provided that he has a popular "acceptability".

The President of the Republic, Barham Ahmed Saleh, had given the political blocs a deadline that ends on the first of February next, to choose a new president for the federal government.

Al-Haddad said in a statement today that "the parties to the political process must accelerate the settlement of a candidate for prime minister because the situation has become very disturbing in light of the continued demonstrations and casualties daily and the persistence of tension, so the government should assume its responsibilities to protect peaceful demonstrators and respond to their legitimate demands and maintain security."

And he added that "the House of Representatives is fully prepared to provide support and assistance to find quick and practical solutions, and the Council will hold at any time its special session to give confidence to the new government in the event that a candidate for prime minister and ministerial portfolios is agreed upon, and the candidate in charge should have popular acceptance, and be agreed upon by All Parties".

Iraq has seen since early October last demonstrations in the capital Baghdad and a number of regions, and cities with a Shiite majority calling for the departure of the political class that has ruled the country since the fall of the United States of America to Saddam Hussein with going to early elections.

Yassin Iraq: Baghdad

The intense rejection of the candidate for the presidency of the new government, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, has escalated during the last hours, in conjunction with the escalation of Allawi's chances of appointing a new government, after leaks and reports that talked about the close assignment of Allawi to head the government against the background of an agreement between the others and Fatah.

Press reports revealed that the Alliance of Al-Fateh and Al-Fatah agreed to offer Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to assign him the position of head of the new government to succeed the resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, which led to the emergence of various activities in the protest arenas, expressing its refusal to assign Allawi.

The Twitter platform and the various social media sites were not free from the activities of refusing to nominate Allawi, but rather had the greatest share, according to activists and demonstrators, the reasons for their refusal are that Muhammad Allawi does not apply to all conditions, where he received the position of Minister of Communications for two sessions in the government of Nuri al-Maliki as well as being a deputy For two sessions also after 2003.

And that "with the absence of the concept of the largest bloc, the constitution stipulates in its article 76 of paragraphs III, IV and V, that the prime minister fails and resigns, as the president of the republic assigns another candidate."

He explained that "the President of the Republic is free to choose the next Prime Minister and is not restricted to a larger or smaller bloc, but he may face a problem within Parliament from the blocs seeking to obtain this position."

Reports Of An International “Threat” To Barham Salih To Choose Al-Kazemi To Head The Government

20190329181847appp-0536abdc9a6d4e2594976

30th January, 2020

Remains in Iraq a mystery over the identity of the next Prime Minister-designate, succeeding Adel Abdul Mahdi, who submitted his resignation at the end of last year, under the weight of persistent popular protests, amid reports that President Barham Saleh is waving to assign the intelligence chief, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to the mission.

A “political source” who monitored his independent statement said that “the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, will assign the current intelligence chief, Mustafa al-Kazemi, to head the next government, in case the political forces do not reach a final agreement .”

The same source added that "Al-Kazemi is supported by most political blocs," referring to "the decline in the opportunities of the other candidates, namely Ali Shukri and Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi in the past hours." However, various sources previously confirmed that Iran-backed Al-Kazemi was rejected by the forces affiliated with Iran, and considered him "American."

The sources said that the United States and Britain informed political blocs, directly and explicitly, of their desire to name Al-Kazemi, and exerted pressure on "Saleh" in this regard.

The account close to the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muhammad Salih al-Iraqi, mentioned Mustafa al-Kazimi at the top of the list of three candidates he proposed in a post on “Facebook”, as they are popularly wanted, with his attempt to distance them from their inclination.

The position of Al-Nasiriyah and Diwaniyah demonstrators on President Saleh's deadline regarding the candidate for prime minister

110150.jpg?watermark=4

Politics 01/20/2020 21:53 38 Editor: mst

Baghdad today _ Diwaniyah

The demonstrators in Diwaniyah and Dhi Qar governorates confirmed that they did not accept the passage of any candidate for prime minister that does not meet the general conditions set by the protest squares throughout the governorates, at a time when they pointed out that they were waiting for President Barham Saleh's deadline for the political blocs to present an acceptable candidate, which is nearing completion.

Ammar Khazali, an activist in the civil movement in Al-Diwaniya Governorate, said that "the demonstrators in Al-Diwaniya Square are waiting for the deadline granted by the President of the Republic to the political blocs to resolve the issue of the prime minister candidate," noting that "the demonstrators will not accept any candidate produced on the political parties unless they comply with the demands of The demonstrators and the specifications they set, and it applies exactly according to what the religious authority described as not being a polemical candidate. "

Khazali added, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that "in the event that the deadline for Saleh expires and no candidate is presented according to these specifications, we will support the position of the President of the Republic if he is assigned a candidate to head the government that applies the specifications announced, with our prior refusal of any party candidate." .

In Nasiriyah, the center of protests in Diwaniya governorate, protesters believe that political blocs may hinder Saleh's work in choosing an acceptable candidate to head the transitional government that is acceptable to all.

Ibrahim Al Saadi, an activist in the demonstrations in Nasiriyah, said, "The city sent a delegation that met the president of the republic and found Saleh eager to listen to the demands of the demonstrators regarding the assignment of a prime minister that meets the stated specifications."

Al-Saadi suggested that "the political blocs impede the work of the president and not allow him to nominate an acceptable figure to head the government," stressing that in the event that the deadline expires, they will support "the candidate chosen by Barham Salih, provided that he is independent and non-partisan and is not subject to the dictates of the parties and fulfills the demands of the demonstrators."

There is only one day left for the political forces to reach a "non-controversial" candidate for prime minister, after the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, was granted a deadline in front of the blocs in Parliament that ends on Saturday, to resolve the selection of an alternative to the resigned prime minister, Adel Abdel Mahdi, and the controversy has continued since Tishrin demonstrations calling for a personal nomination for the prime minister are launched, and the sit-in areas do not reject them, or the president is unique in that, according to what he explicitly declared.

In a lengthy letter to the parliamentary blocs, President Barham Saleh invited her to present a candidate who enjoys political and popular acceptance ending next Saturday, February 1, before he addresses the responsibility of assigning a "non-controversial" candidate.

President Barham Saleh’s deadline stirred the waters of political blocs that had been stagnant for months to choose an alternative to Abdel Mahdi accepted by the protesting masses. With that.

On Friday (12 December 2019), the supreme religious authority in Najaf called for speeding up the formation of the new government, and for it to be "non-controversial" and be able to restore state prestige and calm the situation.

A Democrat member outlines his party’s position regarding the nomination of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to form the interim government

110083.jpg?watermark=4

Politics 01/20/2020 11:47 1628

Baghdad today - Baghdad

On Monday (January 30, 2020), the Kurdistan Democratic Party member, Pierre Taher, confirmed that his party is monitoring the political movement taking place regarding the nomination of the candidate for prime minister.

Taher said in an interview with (Baghdad Today): "We heard that the blocs reached a semi-final agreement regarding the nomination of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to head the government and this is a good thing and we will be with them if they agree on this name and we will not object to it."

He added, "The Kurds from the beginning resolved their issue and said that the nomination of the candidate for prime minister rests with the Shiite blocs and any candidate they choose unanimously, so we will support him as long as previous agreements between Baghdad and Erbil continue regarding budget and financial benefits and not to return to the first square."

Tawfiq Allawi is considered one of the names nominated for the position, after the resignation of former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, along with a number of names, among them the head of the National Security Agency Mustafa al-Kazemi, the advisor to the Presidency of the Republic Naim al-Suhail, and the chief adviser to the President Ali al-Shukri, as well as Deputy Faik Sheikh Ali, who also presented himself as a candidate.

On Wednesday (January 29, 2020), President of the Republic Barham Saleh sent a message to the political forces regarding the appointment of the new prime minister, threatening them with naming whom he deems appropriate for the post, within the limits of next Saturday, if the forces did not reach a new candidate.

The House of Representatives (December 1, 2019) voted on the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi from his position, while the constitution provides for the nomination of his replacement within 15 days, and then the formation of the government within a period not exceeding 30 days, and both constitutional times ended since mid-January the past.

The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, refused, earlier, to name the building alliance candidate Asaad Al-Eidani as head of the new government, and to assign him to form it, after demonstrations and reference in Najaf set specific specifications for the candidate, which Saleh considered did not apply to Al-Aidani.

On Thursday, legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi said that the President of the Republic is free to choose the right personality for the Prime Minister and is not bound by a larger bloc.

An expert reveals a legal article that allows the President of the Republic to name the prime minister without referring to blocs

Politics 01/20/2020 22:49 258

Baghdad today - private

The legal expert, Tariq Harb, Thursday (January 30, 2020), revealed the legal article on which the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, relied, by presenting his candidate to assume the presidency of the new government.

Harb told (Baghdad Today), that "Article 67 of the constitution authorizes the President of the Republic to exercise his powers by choosing a president for the new government, in the event that the political blocs are unable to present their candidate or agree on a specific name."

He added that "Parliament also has full authority not to vote on the candidate of the President of the Republic, if this is achieved."

The legal expert pointed out that "the controversy over resolving the position of Prime Minister among the political blocs, will make the President of the Republic subject to the legal rule that states that necessities permit prohibitions."

Informed sources revealed, on Wednesday (January 29, 2020), the text of the message sent by the President of the Republic to political forces, regarding the mandate of the new Prime Minister, within next Saturday.

President Saleh said in his message that "Iraq faces dangerous political junctures that all of us must confront it with responsibility, to avoid further complications in the Iraqi scene, and to achieve the legitimate demands of the people to form a new government that paves the way for the upcoming elections."

He added, "Since the Prime Minister, Adel Abdel-Mahdi, submitted his official resignation to the House of Representatives, political and parliamentary debates were launched for the purpose of choosing a candidate to assume the presidency of the government, and due to political debates and tensions, unfortunately, these discussions have not yet led to an understanding of a non-controversial candidate." "The Presidency of the Council of Ministers is able to address the requirements of the stage and achieve the political and popular consensus required to cross the country to safety and restore order and prepare for the upcoming elections, which called the Supreme Religious Authority, national powers and demonstrators to demand those concerned to expedite the resolution of the formation file of Pile. He continued, "The events are accelerating and the scene is getting more complicated on the official and popular levels. There are increasing numbers of martyrs and victims from peaceful protesters and security forces, and we believe that the biggest node lies in reaching reasonable limits to agree on the new candidate for the presidency of the Council of Ministers, and certainly that continuing with the current situation is an issue It is impossible to warn of great danger and greater complexity. " Saleh called on the parliamentary blocs concerned with the nomination of the Prime Minister to resume constructive and serious political dialogue in order to agree on a new candidate for the presidency of the Council of Ministers with popular approval and submit it to the Presidency of the Republic in order to issue the order of assignment.

"Inevitably, you appreciate that the President of the Republic has a national and constitutional duty to push towards resolving the crisis, and if the concerned blocs are not able to resolve the nomination order by no later than Saturday, February 1, 2020, I see an obligation to exercise my constitutional powers by assigning those whom I find most acceptable to Parliament and the people And within the framework of the outcomes of the consultations that I held during the last period with the political forces and popular activities.
