Pouting Putin says Russia will set up its own payment system to rival Visa and Master Card, as they suspended service to Russian banks hit by sanctions.  Sundog was with IMF when they reach a deal with Ukraine for loans of $14 - $18 billion.  The deal must be approved by IMF Board which will be taken up next month.   Ukraine’s PM says country is “on the brink of the economic and financial bankruptcy”.  He added economy could drop 10% this year without urgent steps.  US Congress is rushing to pass the bill to provide $1B in loan guarantees to Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.  House and Senate poised to pass their versions of bills today.

 

Dow didn’t slide very much today,  only 4 points on the board.  Saint is happy Lululemon beats the street.  A few IPOs open today such as “ Square 1 Financial (SQBK) begins trading today in Nasdaq, releasing 5.8M shares at offering price of $18/share.  Trinet Group (TNET) traded today in NYSE, it’s a human resources services firm with 15M shares with offering price at $16/share. Boosterbglee heard Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba launches investment product to crowdfund film projects.  Entertainment Treasure product promises 7% annual interest on investments.  Citi Bank to still pay 1 cent dividend and continue $1.2 billion stock buy back.

 

Eburt reported Microsoft gained 9% since Satya Nadella became CEO of Apple.  Today is his first conference to discuss cloud and mobile and possibility of Microsoft office for IPad which will cost about $70/year, download from app store.  It also requires office 365 subscription which include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and OneDrive Storage.   Thriver is surprised 2048 is ITunes most downloaded free app.  Chess heard Fed rejects capital plans for Citigroup, Zions, US units of HSBC, RBS, Santander.  Fed says Citi didn’t make enough progress in improving risk management planning for recession.  Neopolitan reported Little Obe met Pope Francis at the Vatican today, he is the 9th president to make an official visit to the Vatican. Genx4me learned the lawyer hired by NJ Gov Chris Christie to review bridge traffic scandal to release findings today.  Reports say review clears Christie of any involvement.

KRG urged GOI to reach an agreement prior to budget approval.  Nannab is happy Iraq is ready export its barley and wheat production.  In the meantime, Boeing has delivered the 3rd airbus to Iraqi Airways which was almost non-existent during gulf war and Iraqi sanctions.  Lawrenceofdinaria is just awarded another housing project to build 12,000 low cost housing in Baghdad and Basra.  Dillonsdinar reported IMF and special experts specializing in Middle East countries said that Iraq is growing leaps and bounds but still need to spiff up their banking system which can be done as security is under control and political stability.  There is no reason why Iraq can not be the leading financial power house in the region in the near future.

 

Gymrat76541 reported Iran’s President is visiting Afghanistan to call for regional unity.  He says international forces brought “destruction” to Afghanistan.

 

From rumor land : Millionday said the budget deadline is March 30 or done by majority on the 20th.  He thinks it will float after a rate is set.  TerryK believes April fool’s day is looking good.  AC said Maliki doesn’t own any media in Iraq but he controls what the editors and media write. ScottiG said the bonds at $3.71 are to be out by April 1st and RV can happen any time before or at the same time.  Stryker thinks something is brewing as IMF staff just visited Iraq.  Poppy3 warns everyone to get things in order.
