Shiite lists breathe a sigh of relief following Sistani's stance

The electoral rolls from which Shiite candidates dominate their members have been issued successive statements following the position of the supreme Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani on the election process scheduled for the 12th of this month. 
Political blocs feared that al-Sistani would name lists or individuals or hint at them in broad lines for not being elected after a close circulation of the phrase "tried not to tell", referring to candidates for elections.

An expected fatwa from Sistani tarnishes the electoral landscape in Iraq

The political circles in Iraq are waiting for clarification on the office of Shiite cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani regarding the participation of the popular crowd in the Iraqi elections scheduled for the twelfth of this month.

These expectations were based on an interview by Sistani's representative on the latter's refusal to use the popular crowd as an electoral card.

Abdulmahdi al-Karbalai said that the reference of Najaf refuses to employ the popular crowd for political gain, noting that the volunteers of the crowd responded to religious fatwas and that their role ended with the end of the mission for which they volunteered.

Al-Karbalai's speech coincided with political leaks that the head of the Badr Organization Hadi al-Amiri may be one of the candidates for the post of prime minister next after presiding over the electoral coalition (Fatah), which includes the factions of the popular crowd. 

In the event that al-Sistani issued directives to prevent the members of the crowd from participating in the elections, about 20 to 30 affiliated people are all under the coalition led by Hadi al-Amiri will withdraw from the electoral competition, which opens the door wide for Haider Abadi to win a second government mandate.

Sources in Baghdad said that the official of the Iraqi file in the Lebanese Hezbollah Mohammed Kawtharani arrived in Baghdad three days ago and held intensive meetings with leaders of the Shiite factions to discuss the implications that will result from the expected guidance of Sistani on the prohibition of participation of the popular crowd in the upcoming elections.

Sistani's representatives said in a number of Shiite provinces in Iraq that clarifications from the religious authority on the election will be issued on Friday without specifying the content of those clarifications.

Well-known Iraqi Shia Marja Ali al-Sistani has been under house arrest, an official told The Baghdad Post on Thursday.

Sistani will not be able to deliver his historical speech about corruption in Iraq, the sources said on condition of anonymity.
 

Sistani's speech was planned to be just one week before holding parliamentary elections slated to be in May 12.

 

The speech raised concerns among Iraqi political blocs who are worried about being named by SIstani.

 

Sistani's words are binding for all Iraqis who consider it a public interest of the country. 

 

Earlier in March, al-Sistani shared a Fatwa that forbids prosecuting major corrupts in Iraq, considering them 'believers in Allah' and it is not right to defame them.
