As usual, the description of armored vehicles is incorrect. Lazy journalism  - Those are US made M-109 Paladin ( Baqubah for Iraq )  Self-Propelled 155 Howitzer. They may have different names in the various countries the US has sold them to; but thats what we have here. Not a Tank !

The Kurds must be full blown lunatics if they think there's a chance they could ever succeed with this madness. Or, is this yet another attempt by the Press to falsely ramp up anxiety for headlines. Not to mention causing a ridiculous amount of stress for the population (s) involved. . . thus doing everything possible to destabilize an already tenuous situation.

Baghdad / Follow-up morning

US Defense Secretary James Matisse said the United States is closely monitoring what he called the tension between the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Kurdistan authorities over Kirkuk and is working to ensure that it does not escalate. He was on board a plane he was flying from Miami, where he was visiting US forces in Central and South America, "We are working for that, Secretary of State Rick Tillerson is leading the effort, but we are also working to ensure that we keep any possibility of a conflict out of the table," Matisse told reporters. "Asked about his message to leaders in Baghdad and the region, : "Everyone is still focused on defeating me We can not fight now, we do not want to develop into a shooting situation »For its part, France called on the federal government and Kurdistan to exercise restraint in the crisis in Kirkuk. The French Foreign Ministry said on its official website on Saturday: That "Paris closely follows the situation between Baghdad and Arbil," adding that "France reiterates its call for restraint and dialogue and calls on all parties to refrain from any initiative that would raise tension." The researcher at the Washington Institute for Middle East Policy, Michael Knights In an analysis, on Saturday, that the crisis in Kirkuk gives a clear opportunity for direct emergency talks between the federal government and the Kurdistan region. "Fortunately, there is a third more attractive option between Erbil and Baghdad," said Gates in the analysis published by the Washington Institute for Near Eastern Studies. "Since the September 25 referendum in Kurdistan, Baghdad was not ready to enter into unconditional negotiations with the Kurdistan Regional Government, To give up the vote in some way before returning to the negotiating table, but the crisis in Kirkuk gives Baghdad a clear opportunity for direct emergency talks with Arbil ». "These discussions could focus on the proposed settlement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on temporary joint administration in Kirkuk, in parts controlled by the Union such as the main air base, the K1 military base, and some energy facilities, and these discussions will be good points for the development of the mechanism A joint security between the federal forces and the Peshmerga forces. "The analysis pointed out that" American mediators should call for measures to mitigate the escalation by freezing the dispatch of reinforcements to the region, the removal of heavy weapons such as artillery and tanks to a mutual distance, Nightly moves and bi-directional contacts on each side are aware of new troop movements. Priority should be given to a partial solution to the crisis in the short term, such as the return of federal military missions to PUK-controlled sites in Kirkuk instead of a huge deal that requires an immediate return of large federal forces To all regions

Legal expert confirms that the deployment of federal forces in Kirkuk (constitutional)
Baghdad / Omar Abdul Latif

Parliamentary deputies and figures confirmed their stand with the condition of the executive authority, which calls on the Kurdistan Regional Government to abide by the "national constants" in return for starting a dialogue with them and resolving the crisis that broke out after the insistence on holding a referendum on secession on the twenty-fifth of last September.

The MP for the parliamentary bloc of advocacy Mahdi al-Zubaidi: "The national constants must be adhered to by the region in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force in the state, calling for the abolition of the referendum held by the region and the consequences thereof, in addition to the withdrawal from the disputed areas entered by the Peshmerga after the occupation "Urged" to the provinces of Nineveh and Kirkuk,
adding Zubaidi, in an interview for "morning", "is supposed to simplify the federal government authority over all land and air ports and airports," calling for accountability of what they described as "separatist" leaders, according to the law to expose them alone the country to the risk of division .
Zubaidi said that "the decisions of parliamentary and government must be implemented by the region because it is part of Iraq and it has to submit to the Constitution and federal law."
For his part, said MP from the independent parliamentary bloc Mohammed al-Shammari: The basis of dialogue between the center and the region is the national constants taken as decisions at the level of Parliament, and commissioned by the government after a referendum of the region, which triggered negative reactions regionally and internationally.
Al-Shammari said in an interview for "morning" that "the region deaf ears of the votes that advised him to cancel or postpone the referendum and struck by the wall and went solo to take a decision contrary to the Constitution and the will of all countries," noting that "the federal government alerted the advocates of secession on more than one occasion and a message Not to proceed with such a decision that threatens the unity of Iraq, which was one of the most important principles written by the Constitution, and the Kurds believed the people and leaders were the drafters of the Constitution and therefore, after they went solo decision to want to impose the will of the reality on the government and the world, Can never be dealt with " .
Al-Shammari called on the executive authority to "abide by what it announced not to dialogue with the region until after the cancellation of the referendum and its consequences and any consequences." He stressed the need to return the territory to the central authority and subject to its laws under the powers approved by the Constitution for being part of Iraq.
He urged al-Shammari not to repeat the previous mistakes in dealing with the region and to overlook the excesses and violations in exchange for agreements and deals, calling for the completion of the policy of courtesies and compromises that have threatened the unity of Iraq. "
In turn, the legal expert Tariq Harb that what the government is taking at the moment is less than it imposes The constitution.
He explained to the "morning" that "the presence of the forces of the province outside the places specified by the Constitution in Article 143 of it is an explicit violation as Article 58 / A of the Law of the State Administration of Iraq areas under the authority of the Peshmerga on 19/3/2003 before the entry of coalition forces to Iraq , But we see the presence of those forces in the territory of an area greater than the territory of the territory, "noting that the forces of the territory in their control of these territories act as" heir to Daash. "
He added that "Kirkuk, with all its causes, aspects and villages, belongs to the federal government and the presence of the Peshmerga and the staff of the region in these places violates the Constitution. The presence of the staff of the region south of Arbil and the south of the city of Qosh is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution as long as the presence of the province ends in this city." The land by the federal forces of the army and police and popular mobilization and the fight against terrorism came in implementation of the provisions of the Constitution, especially what is stated in Article (143) clear that determines the presence of the territory in terms of land does not require the provision of this article to interpretation or interpretation.
