ERBIL— During 28 airstrikes by the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq, the weaponry caches, oil apparatus and media center of the Islamic jihadists were targeted and destroyed on Thursday.

According to a press release by the Combined Joint Task Force, Operation Inherent Resolve the strikes consisted of 53 engagements against IS.

Some of the 11 strikes were in Rawah, Mosul, al-Qaim and Tal Afar in which an IS media center and three weapons caches were destroyed near al-Qaim, Nineveh province.  

Near Mosul the offensive destroyed eight front-end loaders, two recoilless rifles, a vehicle, a mortar system, an excavator, and an anti-air artillery system; the report said,  adding a VBIED (Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device) facility was also destroyed and two mortar teams were also suppressed.

One more VBIED staging area, a VBIED, a tactical vehicle and two bunkers were crushed in Tal Afar and Rawah.

In the aerial strikes conducted in Syria's Albukamal, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Tabqa four well heads, a fuel truck, an oil tank, a crane, a command and control node, a front-end loader, three fighting positions, two command and control nodes, two bunkers, and a staging area were destroyed.

The global coalition against IS has gathered 68 countries to combat the Islamic extremists in Iraq under the consent of the Iraqi government and in Syria without any coordination with the regime of president Bashar al-Assad.

Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) A 100-soldier U.S. special force has stationed at the Iraqi army’s command center in Ramadi, west of Anbar province, a network reported Friday.

Kurdish-owned Rudaw network said the force stationed at the army’s al-Jazeera Operations command near the Haditha Dam, west of Ramadi.

The network quoted Ahmed al-Dulaimi, an Iraqi army captain, saying the force was fully armed, and was expected to partake in arrangements for an anticipated military offensive to retake the Islamic State stronghold city of Annah, west of the province

According to al-Dulaimi, there has been a continuous, intense aerial bombardment b y fighter jets from the U.S.-led coalition on Annah, with the aim of exhausting the group’s fighting capabilities before invasion by security and tribal forces.

Islamic State has held the western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa since it emerged in 2014 to proclaim a self-styled “Islamic Caliphate”. The group stepped up attacks targeting Iraqi border guards recently. Iraqi and coalition fighter jets regularly pound the group’s locations.

Reports in March had disclosed possible joint operations by the Iraqi and U.S. forces to clear the IS towns. In the same month, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command denied news regarding the arrival of 2000 U.S. Marine soldiers in Anbar to engage in the campaign.

Also on Friday, a security source told Alsumaria News that coalition jets killed 4 militants after targeting their vehicle in Rawa. Those killed included the group’s area booby-trapping official.

Anah (IraqiNews.com) The Army’s 7th Brigade Command in Anbar Province, on Thursday, announced that 11 fighters of the Islamic State group were killed, and two booby-trapped vehicles were destroyed by an air strike, west of the province.

The Command said in a statement that the international coalition air force bombarded two booby-trapped vehicles belonging to the Islamic State group, in the city of Anah, destroying them completely.

The coalition air force also managed to bomb a hideout of the Islamic State and an explosives lab in the city of Anah, killing 11 members of the terrorist group, the statement added.

Noteworthy, security forces finished their preparations to liberate the cities of Anah, Rawa and al-Qaim, west of Anbar, from the Islamic State group.

Iranian Quds Force opens dozens of headquarters in Mosul Tuesday, 6 Shaban 1438 AH - 02 May 2017 AD Issue Number [14035]  Erbil: Delshad Abdullah Informed sources said yesterday that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards opened dozens of military and political headquarters under the cover of the popular crowd on the left side of the city of Mosul, and sources indicated that the Vice President of the Iraqi Republic and the Secretary General of the Islamic Dawa Party Nuri al-Maliki oversees these And supported the funds to win a number of Sunni tribal leaders and citizens within the city. The spokesman for the Arab tribes in the province of Nineveh, Sheikh Muzahm al-Hewitt, told «Middle East» that al-Maliki «so far succeeded in winning a number of Sunni Arab tribal leaders and personalities from the left side of Mosul and the south of the city, and is currently secretly to form tribal councils Nineveh is affiliated with the direct support of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. " He added that within the framework of this scheme «the Iranian Guard opened dozens of headquarters in some forces equipped with all types of weapons, and other small parties, which works to give them work permits from Baghdad and these headquarters directly linked to Iran», pointing to the deployment of armed groups, And arrests are carried out among citizens.  The spokesman for the Arab tribes in Ninewa highlights the objectives of Maliki and Iran in extending the influence on Mosul, saying: «They seek to get the largest share of parliamentary seats from Mosul, as well as the majority of seats in the provincial council, and the disruption of Sunni Arabs and Mosul and the fight against the Kurdistan region». According to an official in one of the popular crowd that has offices in Mosul, Iranian officers are constantly in these offices, indicating that Iran has supplied its militias with heavy weapons and aircraft march during the past days in Mosul, without revealing further details.  Iran is seeking to open a road through Mosul to the Syrian territory to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad and Hezbollah weapons and ammunition and fighters, and increase its influence in the region by controlling the city of Mosul, and the proximity of the borders of the city of Arbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region.  "After liberating the left side of Mosul, many factions have entered this area under the guise of the popular crowd," said Sheikh Muhiuddin al-Mazouri, a senior official of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's branch in Mosul, told Asharq Al-Awsat. 43 offices of popular crowds in the city in addition to the opening of offices of the coalition of the rule of law led by al-Maliki and these offices are not subject to any control neither the Iraqi government nor the local government in the province ».  Al-Mazouri added: "There are Sunni tribal crowds counting on Maliki's current armed with the political parties behind them seeking to destabilize the security situation in the liberated areas and stir up strife among citizens." Al-Mazouri warned that Mosul "will be in the face of fierce internal armed conflicts between these armed parties if there is no unified political vision of political parties and movements operating in the arena of Mosul."

Security forces killed ISIS senior leader, Abu Ishaq al Tounsi, and 44 of his aides in al Ektsadean district of Mosul city,  Federal Police Commander Gen. Raed Shakir Jawdat said on Monday.
 

In a press release, he added that the police forces, in coordination with drones and guided missiles departments, continue advancing in ISIS-controlled territories to retake it from the terrorist group.

Police forces are advancing in the areas of Bab al Tob, Bab Al-Baid, Qadib al-Ban and Bab Jadid via using heavy weapons to face the ISIS suicide attacks.

The Iraqi forces, aided by the US-led coalition, have been pushing against ISIS terrorists in the right bank of Mosul since February 19th.

ISIS commits new massacre against civilians in Mosul

ISIS terrorist group committed on Monday a new massacre in west of Mosul city where its terrorists killed 10 civilians who were trying to flee the city towards Peshmerga positions.
 

Iraqi Forces launched a major offensive on 19th of February to retake the western part of Mosul after declaring total control of the eastern part of the city on 24th of January as part of the military operations to liberate the city that started on 17th of October 2016.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ Active in Dozens of ‘Premises’ in Mosul

 

The Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards is active in Mosul through dozens of military and political premises established in the western side of the city under the wings of the Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS), Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Monday.

Sheikh Muzahim Huwet, the spokesperson for the Arab tribes in Nineveh, said that former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki “is currently working to form several tribal councils in Nineveh that are linked to him and directly supported by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.”

Huwet added: "They seek to win the largest number of parliamentary seats in Mosul and also the majority of seats at the governorate’s council, in order to factionalize the Sunni Arabs, to Shi’itize Mosul and fight the Kurdistan district."

The Quds Force is a special forces unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responsible for their extraterritorial operations.

Separately, section XIV Kurdistan Democratic Party relations official in Mosul, Sheikh Muhyiddin Mezouari uncovered the presence of “Sunni tribes linked to the Maliki movement,” adding that those tribes possess arms.

"The political forces supporting those tribes seek to shake the security situation in the liberated areas and to ignite strife between residents," Mezouari said.

Also, an official from one of IMIS factions with offices in Mosul said that Iranian officers are constantly present in those offices, adding that few days ago, Iran provided its militias in Mosul with heavy weapons and drones. However, the official did not elaborate.

Iran seeks to open a ground road from Mosul to the Syrian territories to supply the regime of Bashar Assad and the “Hezbollah” party with arms and militants and to increase its powers in the area by controlling the city of Mosul and getting closer to the borders of Irbil, the capital of Kurdistan.

Dozens of ISIS suicide bombers killed in northern Iraq

Dozens of ISIS suicide bombers, including  Hawija deputy governor, have been killed in air strikes southwest of Kirkuk, The Baghdad Post reported on Sunday. 

The cell said in a statement that the airstrikes based on Intelligence information, destroyed an ISIS bastion, and killed the so-called deputy governor of Hawija State as well as dozens of suicide bombers.
 
"The strike also led to the "destruction of 10 vehicles, an explosives laboratory and a weapons depot in Hawija district," the statement read.

HAWIJA — The Iraqi War Media Cell announced the death of the Islamic State (IS) deputy governor of Hawija city, west of Kirkuk, and a number of militants in the air strikes conducted by the Iraqi Air Force on Sunday.

Based on the information of the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security, the Iraqi Air Force carried out several air strikes, resulting in the destruction of a den belonging to the IS militants.

The strikes killed a number of IS militants including the deputy governor of Hawija, according the Iraqi War Media Cell.

Moreover, the air raid destroyed 10 vehicles, a laboratory for preparing car bombs and a weapons cache belonging to the extremist group in Hawija, the statement said.

Hawija, some 30 miles west of Kirkuk, is a strategic town which has fallen into the hands of IS since mid-2014. Iraqi authorities postponed an operation to liberate the town last year, instead they moved onto central Mosul.

Kurdish authorities in Kirkuk previously warned that central Kirkuk may not be completely secured as long as IS rules the nearby town of Hawija.

Iraqi Military Photojournalist Killed in Hadar, West of Mosul

MOSUL — The Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedom said on Monday that a military photographer was killed in Hadar town, west of Mosul, which was fully liberated by the Iraqi forces a few days ago.

The Iraqi military photographer Hassan Naji al-Abidi who was accompanying the Iraqi forces in the operation to liberate the city of Hadar was killed on Sunday while he was covering the fierce battle against the Islamic State (IS) in the area, the observatory said in a statement.

The number of journalists killed between May 2016 and May 2017 rose to 21, according to the same source.

ERBIL— Abu Eshaq al-Tunisi, an Islamic State (IS) field commander, was killed on Sunday in western Mosul, confirmed an Iraqi federal police commander.

Shakr Jawdat told Iraqi media outlets that Tunisi, who was the commander for the Hufat Division, was killed in Iqtisadin neighborhood of Mosul along with four of his assistants.

He added the Iraqi federal police is coordinating with the Iraqi air force and missile launching battalions and is continuously receiving intelligence from the heart of the areas under the control of the Islamic jihadists.

Thank You, TigerGorZow, for the, "Tounsi, ISIS top leader, killed in Mosul" article that another ISIS Senior Leader was whacked along with 44 of his aides. That aught to help!

 

An earlier article stated there were 200 to 300 ISIS remaining in Western Mosul. The 45 ISIS whacked here is 45/300 to 45/200 (15% to 22.5%) of the estimated remaining ISIS in Mosul. There are other ISIS whacks as well that are not in this percentage range. Depending on how ISIS is spread out, there could be an acceleration of the ISIS dwindling numbers. I suspect some will fight to the death while others may give up. At this rate, West Mosul should be cleared of ISIS in about 4 to 7 days, if that long. With the key mosque taken, morale aught to really have taken a hit so likely not much to fight for except to survive as long as possible - which, by all appearances, will be much longer!

 

The ISIS whacks in other dwindling ISIS held areas may make for an "Iraq Is Now Liberated Of ISIS Terrorists" announcement in the near future and may be on the horizon!
