At least 14 ISIS terrorists were killed and six others were injured in ISIS infighting in Diyala governorate, the head of local council in Diyala Mohamed Dayfan al-Obeidi  said on Wednesday.

Internal fighting raged between two groups of ISIS terrorists in Hawija District in western Kirkuk and in Diyala, al-Obeidi added.

Obeidi also urged Iraqi forces to exploit these disputes among the terrorists to prevent them from returning to the liberated areas or infiltrating Metebeja district.

Terrorist groups like ISIS, IMIS and others are targeting the city by booby-trapped cars, suicide bombs and other terrorist means in which the residents are feeling insecure and furious.

Key grain storehouse recaptured in Mosul's right bank

Operation We are coming, Nineveh declared on Wednesday the iraqi forces recaptured Al-Ma'amel neighborhood in the right bank of Mosul.

Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) forces have recaptured Al-Ma'amel neighborhood, said commander of the operation Gen. Abdel-Amir Rashid Yarallah, said.

He also added the forces raised the Iraqi flag over the neighborhood's buildings after inflicting heavy losses on ISIS terrorists.

This comes as the Iraqi forces, aided by the US-led coalition are pushing on the terror group of ISIS in the city since February 19th.

Joint forces from the Iraqi Army and Federal Police launched a military operation with air Iraqi support to eliminate ISIS sleeper cells in eastern Diyala, a security source told The Baghdad Post on Wednesday.
 

In a press statement, the source said that the joint forces targeted villages in al-Miqdadeyya area in eastern Diyala upon receiving information that these villages harbor ISIS sleeper cells.
 

Iraqi helicopters participated in the operations, shelled ISIS posts and weapons warehouses in inaccessible areas.
 

ISIS terrorists often infiltrate Dilyala from Hamrin hills in the northern areas of the governorate to carry out sabotage acts.

Liberating Tal Afar 'hinges on US-Turkish consent': Lawmaker

Lawmaker Nahla al-Hababi said on Wednesday that liberating Tal Afar has been delayed for a long time, and it requires the consent of 'foreign parties'.

It is disgraceful to leave the residents of this area facing the woes of torture, arrests and massacres, she said.

She also added that the local residents in Tal Afar are living in extremely dreadful conditions.

The military officials should start a military action to rid the city of the terrorists of ISIS, the lawmaker went on to say.

Al-Hababi yet explained that the problem is Tal Afar is mainly a political one, adding that liberating it needs a US-Turkish consent.

Accordingto the map, there appear to be ten labeled pieces of the map that ISIS appears to have control of with about half of them engaged by Iraqi Forces. There also appear to be six labeled pieces of the map that Iraqi Forces have gained control over a portion of (or most of) that piece with areas of combat with ISIS. Once these pieces are taken, the advertised push for retaking Old Mosul from the north is scheduled to commence. I suspect the retaking of Old Mosul could be sooner if ISIS attrition has reached a point where ISIS is so thin they are basically out of operation! The ISIS casualty rate appears to be steady so hard to imagine there are many left in Mosul to engage. Hey, ISIS is reported as disguising as IDPs to try to escape and are being caught - one way or another, ISIS is decommissioning and FAST!

Five government forces killed in blast west of Mosul

Five elements of the Iraqi joint forces were killed on Wednesday when an explosive device that targeted their military vehicle went off west of Mosul.

The explosive device was planted at the roadside in the district of Mushairfa northwest of Mosul and it exploded as the vehicle came close to it, killing five government forces, a statement said.

Also, the vehicle was completely destroyed due to the explosion. 

Upon receiving a notice of the incident, the Iraqi forces cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt in search of the perpetrators.

Yet ambulances took the bodies of the victims to a nearby hospital.

The Iraqi cities are witnessing a state of insecurity and chaos as terror attacks target civilians.

Terrorist groups like ISIS, IMIS and others are targeting those cities by booby-trapped cars, suicide bombs and other terrorist means in which the residents are feeling insecure and furious.

ISIS terrorist group suffered big losses in its fighters and ammunition after successive defeats it received recently in Mosul's right bank,  Economic ُExpert Kamel Amin told The Baghdad Post.

ISIS terrorists resorted to extort civilians as it suffers financial crisis. The districts recaptured by Iraqi forces in Mosul's right bank were considered as the main stream for financing the terrorist group,  Amin added.  

The oil-rich areas used to provide the financial aid for the terrorist group is now under Iraqi forces' control, he said.

Analysts estimate little number of ISIS terrorists remain in Mosul and the city will be declared fully liberated from the terrorists within days but ISIS terrorists will desperately defend the city which used to be their major stronghold, Amin reiterated.

 

On 19th of February, the US-backed Iraqi forces, supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias launched an operation to oust ISIS terrorists from Mosul.

A British man suspected of being part of an ISIS group that beheaded hostages has been convicted of a terrorism offence in Turkey, the BBC reported on Tuesday.
 

Aine Davis, 33, of London, had been arrested in 2015 near Istanbul.

He was found guilty of being a senior member of a terrorist organisation and jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Davis was one of a four-man IS cell nicknamed "The Beatles", which included the person dubbed Jihadi John.

Davis, the only one of the group to face a trial, had denied the charges against him.

One of the group's former captives welcomed the conviction by a Turkish judge at the court in at Silivri.

Davis is a convert to Islam who has a string of drug and firearms convictions in the UK.

He left his home in west London in 2013 and joined the ISIS group.

Davis was arrested in November 2015 in a counter terrorism operation centred on a house in Silivri, a coastal town just outside Istanbul.

The trial heard how he had been tracked there by Turkish police and intelligence officials days after being smuggled out of Syria by ISIS.

Monitoring of encrypted text messages suggested he was meeting an unnamed man suspected of plotting a terror attack in Turkey.

When police raided the house in Silivri they found a group of men, including three other Britons who were also accused of being members of a terrorist organisation - ISIS - charges they each denied.

The case was recently dropped against two of them - Mohammed Karwani, 40, from London, and Jermaine Burke, 29, from High Wycombe, who will be deported to the UK.

Two other men were convicted by the court, while a third Briton, Deniz Solak, 33, from east London, was found not guilty.

In court, the prosecution said Davis was a senior member of ISIS.

I agree, FNBPlanet!

 

Once the refugees are in a place free from ISIS consequences, I'm pretty sure they won't hesitate to tell the authorities who the incognito ISIS culprits are! Probably wouldn't be able to successfully escape with a burka since the women would likely take off the burkas on the way out of ISIS controlled areas like shown in a picture in a recent news article. So burkas, or other clothing obscuring th face, would be suspect.

Kuwait Delivers Humanitarian Aid to Liberated Areas of Mosul

LEEDS — Kuwait Red Crescent Society distributed 2,500 food baskets to the recently liberated areas in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The support coming from neighboring Kuwait is supposed to help the suffering of thousands of people living in the liberated areas of Mosul, which were recaptured by the Iraqi forces from the so-called Islamic State (IS), an Iraqi charity official told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday. 

About 15,000 people have received food aid from Kuwait's humanitarian aid campaign that started at the same time as the ongoing operation to liberate Mosul, said the Barzani Charity Foundation's humanitarian aid distribution chief, Mohammad Bahaeddin. 

He also expressed deep appreciation to the state of Kuwait for the nonstop relief aid provided for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in different areas of Iraq. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Kuwait's General Consul in Erbil, Omar Al-Kanderi, inaugurated a Kuwait-funded School for displaced Iraqis in Dohuk province of Kurdistan Region.

ISIL in serious trouble after losing large part of west Mosul

BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:13 A.M.) – Tuesday was another rough day for the Islamic State (ISIL) forces inside western Mosul, as they lost a big chunk of territory to the Iraqi Army and Federal Police after a fierce 48 hour battle.

What began as a small assault on the southern Industrial Zone of west Mosul, ended in the complete collapse of the terrorist forces in the entire Industrial Zone of the city.

Iraqi Army units and their allies from the Federal Police managed to impose full control over the entire Industrial Zone of northwest Mosul on Tuesday, killing and wounding scores of Islamic State terrorists, while also destroying a number of armored vehicles.

 

With the Industrial Zone under their control, they have successfully secured the southern axis of the Hamarat District, leaving less than 40 percent of western Mosul under ISIL control.

Iraqi security forces captured alive a notorious ISIS jihadist as the military campaign to recapture the northern city of Mosul continues.

Aideen Ramadan Fakher, a Somali fighter in the Islamic State, admitted killing at least 30 cadets in the 2014 Speicher massacre.

On June 2014, the Islamic State launched an offensive on Camp Speicher in Tikrit, massacring at least 1,566 Iraqi Air Force cadets in one of the most atrocious carnages perpetrated by the terror group.

Iraqi Army eyes Syrian border-crossing as Mosul offensive reaches final phases

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:50 A.M.) – The Iraqi Army and Federal Police are preparing to launch an important offensive to seal the Syrian border-crossing into the Deir Ezzor Governorate, as they reach the final phases of their Mosul operations.

On Monday, the Iraqi Army, alongside their popular committees, launched a big operation in the Haditha area of southwest Al-Anbar, targeting the Islamic State’s final pockets in this desert region.

According to Iraqi activists, their army and allies killed over 20 Islamic State militants, while also destroying 3 car bombs during this important operation in the Al-Anbar Governorate.

 

Once the Mosul offensive concludes, the Iraqi Armed Forces will shift their attention to the last 100km of territory in southwest Al-Anbar that is under the Islamic State’s control; this includes the integral Al-Qa’im border-crossing.

ISIS doomed in Mosul as Iraqi Army liberates several neighborhoods – Map update

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:10 P.M.) – The Iraqi Armed Forces are weeks from absolute victory in Iraq’s second largest city following several important gains inside Mosul on Wednesday.

With the Iraqi Federal Police, and Rapid Response Division holding ISIS in check in central Mosul, the Counter Terrorism Units and 9th Division were able to impose full control over the ‘2nd Al-Haramat’ and Al-Ma’amel districts in western Mosul by noon.

Later in the day, the Iraqi High Command announced that the 9th Division had finished its mission in Mosul. With its heavy tanks unsuitable for urban warfare and narrow streets, this seasoned division will likely join forces with the 15th Division in the coming battle for Tal Afar, an encircled ISIS bastion further west in the Nineveh governorate.

 

Nevertheless, government forces proceeded to storm the Al-Aslah Al-Zraae and ’17th Tammuz’ suburbs. After breaking through the jihadist defensive line in the residential area, Iraqi troops closed in on the Aqtasadeen neighborhood. Heavy clashes continued in the evening hours amid reports of new suicide bombings.

With Iraqi forces slowly chipping away at the ISIS-held pocket, over 30 jihadist militants were killed by airstrikes alone on Wednesday. However, Amaq Agency claimed dozens of civilians had been killed by the joint US and Iraqi bombardment too.

With elite infantry units sweeping through the northwestern sector, one of the highest ranking ISIS commanders left in Mosul was killed on Wednesday. The commander was identified as Abu Ayoud Al-Sham and was a Syrian citizen.

With the departure of the 9th Division, mopping up operations will be left exclusively to the Rapid Response Division, Iraqi Federal Police and Counter Terrorism Units. Thousands of civilians are caught in the crossfire on a daily basis, severely hampering Iraqi advances.

 

 

Baghdad and Washington have repeatedly accused ISIS of using civilians and some 5,000 prisoners as human shields to deter airstrikes and shelling on their areas, most specifically around the densely populated Old City neighborhood and the ISIS controlled Al-Nouri Mosque where Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi declared the caliphate in 2014.

Elsewhere in Nineveh province, the 15th Division and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) foiled a big ISIS breakout attempt on the western outskirts of Tal Afar, killing 15 ISIS militants, wounding 25 and capturing 3 technicals in the process.

As the exclusive Al-Masdar News map above reveals, no more than 5% of Mosul city remains under Islamic State control.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces killed a senior Islamic State commander and recaptured another area in western Mosul as they continue incursions in districts overlooking the IS-held Old City from the northwest.

The Nineveh operations command said the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service forces took over al-Maamel (laboratories/factories) area on Wednesday, and raised Iraqi flags at the area. It also said forces killed Abu Ayoub al-Shami, Islamic State’s military commander for the Islah al-Zeraie district, along with three of his aides.

The developments come as Iraqi forces opened last week a new front targeting the strategic, IS-held Old City from the northwestern direction, having struggled for weeks to invade the densely populated and narrowly structured area from its southern entrances.
Iraqi commanders have reported dozens of deaths among Islamic State militants and the recapture of large parts of districts on the targets list.

On Monday, a spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said ministry forces had killed 3320 IS members since the offensive to retake western Mosul was launched in February. Iraqi forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting.

Iraqi commanders say they currently control at least 70 percent of territory in the western side of Mosul. Some were quoted expecting the city to be fully under security forces’ control before the end of May. Retaking Mosul will be the strongest blow to the Islamic State’s proclaimed “caliphate” which its supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared from the Old City’s Grand Mosque in 2014.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Sixteen Islamic State members were killed, a booby-trapping workshop was destroyed in airstrikes in several parts in western Mosul, the War Media Cell said.

In statements the WMC media service said “The Iraqi fighter jets launched several airstrikes that killed four terrorists who were targeting the security troops as well as liberated regions in al-Refaie district in western Mosul.”

“An underground weapon stash was destroyed. Six terrorists were killed, while others were destroyed on 17 Tamuz [July 17th] district. Booby-trapped and armored vehicles were destroyed, while three terrorists were killed in Hatra region,” the service added.

“A booby-trapping workshop was destroyed, while three terrorists including two foreigners were killed in Tal Afar town,” according to the statements.

In related news, Federal Police Chief Lt.Gen. Shaker Jawdat indicated crackdown on the IS militants in al-Jisr al-Khamis region killing six members and liberating 70 percent of al-Haramat al-Thaniya district. He also announced controlling an ammunition stash as well as approaching toward al-Iqtisadiyeen district with 500 meters.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Nineveh operations command said the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service forces killed Abu Ayoub al-Shami, IS military commander for the Islah al-Zeraie district, along with three of his aides. The troops also took over al-Maamel (laboratories/factories) area.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces had killed more than 1300 Islamic State militants since operations launched on February 19th to retake the western flank of Mosul, military media said.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell, quoting the command of the Nineveh Operations, said the army’s 9th division had killed 1336 Islamic State members, including senior leaders, since the start of offensives in February.

The statement said a total of 55 districts, villages and vital facilities had been recaptured, covering a total area of 406 square kilometers.

A total of refugees evacuated from the division’s scope of operations stood at 111750, according to the media outlet.

Besides human losses on militants behalf, 139 booby-trapped vehicles were detonated, 11 drones shot down, 61 rest houses, ten booby-trapping workshops and five command centers were demolished.

Earlier this week, the Interior Ministry said its forces had killed more than 850 Islamic State members since the start of the western Mosul offensive.

Iraqi government forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January, and commanders currently claim control over 70 percent of the western side.

Forces are currently moving on a new front of operations, targeting the IS-held, strategic Old City area from the northwest. Retaking that area will represent a major symbolic victory, being the place from where IS declared its rule over Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Mosul (Reuters) Thousands more people are fleeing Mosul every day since Iraqi troops began their push into the last Islamic State-held areas of the city last week, with food and water running out and the fighting killing increasing numbers of civilians.

More than 22,000 people have fled Mosul since the U.S.-backed forces opened a new front in the northwest of the city on May 4 to try to finally dislodge the militants, the United Nations said on Wednesday, citing Iraqi government figures.

In the past two days alone, more than 11,000 people have passed through a screening site at the Hammam al-Alil camp south of Mosul.

Islamic State fighters are shooting people who try to escape, although some men have been allowed to go in exchange for taking militants’ families with them, said 40-year-old Umm Abdul Rahman, who fled the Musherfa district on Tuesday night.

One man waiting to be checked by security at Hammam al Alil had streaks of blood on his clothes from carrying a woman hit by an Islamic State sniper.

They join an exodus from Mosul of more than 600,000 people in the seven months since Iraqi forces began their offensive there. Roughly 400,000 of those are from the western side of the city which is bisected by the River Tigris.

The militants are now besieged in the northwestern corner, which includes the historic Old City center, the medieval Grand al-Nuri Mosque, and its landmark leaning minaret where their black flag has been flying since June 2014.

About ten families, some forced out of other areas of Mosul as Iraqi forces advanced, were now crammed into every house in the northwest, Abdul Rahman said.

“There is no water, no food. The bombardment is continuous,” she said, and the militants were setting civilian cars and trucks on fire to create smokescreens.

People are surviving on ground wheat boiled in water, 31-year-old Qatra al-Nada Abdullah said, because Islamic State fighters were keeping any food or water that is left for themselves.

“Even wheat is scarce,” she said.

Islamic State fighters are forcing people from their homes to use them as fighting positions, 62-year-old Umm Mohammed said as she clutched a packet of cigarettes forbidden under the militants’ rule.

She and her family had burned everything, even their own shoes, to cook over after fuel ran out.

“We saw fear and hunger and death. I am an old woman and I have never seen anything like this.”

The Sunni Muslim militants seized Mosul in a shock offensive across northern and western Iraq in 2014 but have lost much of that territory to resurgent government forces in the past year. The campaign to recapture the city, Iraq’s second largest, began last October.

Defeat in Mosul, the militants’ last urban stronghold in the country, would still leave Islamic State in control of swathes of Syria and Iraqi territory near the Syrian border.

Iraqi judiciary says arrested IS funding ring gives insight into group’s finances

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq’s top judicial council said Wednesday an arrested group in charge of Islamic State’s financing portfolio has unveiled new funding mechanisms the extremist group has adopted as it began to lose influence with Iraqi security successes.

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council said Wednesday in a statement that interrogations with the group, arrested recently in Baghdad, unveiled that funds are either sent directly by “wealthy persons in neighboring countries” or in the form of commodities provided for free to group agents who, in turn, sell it for “below-market rates” as a “special offer” to clients.

Remittances pass legally through the Iraqi banking system as recipients provide personal reasons for the transfer, such as buying a property or a car, according to the statement. “Complicit” cell phone operators are also sought occasionally to process the remittances, according to the council.

The funds are transferred once or twice a month, at one case standing at USD27.000, according to the statement.

The group uses the finances to fund its operations in Baghdad, as well as to pay compensations for the families of its deceased or detained members.

Islamic State proclaimed a self-styled “caliphate” across large areas of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. Iraqi troops, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, launched an offensive in October to retake Mosul, IS’s largest stronghold. Troops recaptured the eastern part of the city in January and are close to retaking the west. Since the launch of the campaign, Islamic State sustained severe losses in personnel and finances.

Nicely done Tiger, thanks for the updates. Shouldn't be too much longer now. I feel for those displaced folks. Those troops are doing one helluva job.
