Iraqis are currently leaning towards unity more than ever, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al- Abadi said on Wednesday, pointing that there are efforts underway to turn disputed areas into unified ones.

The prime minister said, in his speech during a forum held in al-Suleimaneya province about post-ISIS era, that a country unified by its citizens will be stronger than a country unified by force.

Iraqis are trying to turn the disputed areas into unified ones, to be ruled by its citizens, he added.

Iraqi people have fought together, al-Abadi said urging politicians to close ranks for the sake of Iraq and its citizens.

Kurdistan president Masoud Barzani has repeatedly stressed on outlining new policies for Iraq in order to be unified, asserting that new borders are being drawn in the region "by Blood."

ERBIL — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said the corruption that exists in the Iraqi institutions is more detrimental than the terrorist organizations in the country and he called on the Iraqi politicians to prioritize the national interests of Iraq over factional interests.

 

During his speech at the Sulaymaniyah Forum organized by the American University of Sulaymaniyah, Abadi stated that the threat of corruption is more dangerous than terrorism, calling on everyone to combat it.

Abadi said that the Iraqi and the Peshmerga forces fought together for the first time, expressing hope in the continuation of this coordination in dealing with all the suspended issues between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region.

He stressed the need of the Iraqi army to represent all the components of Iraq and maintain unity in the fight on terrorism.

 

Sulaymaniyah Fifth Forum was held on March 8th for discussing the current issues related to the region, particularly combating terrorism. The forum was attended by a number of Kurdish and Iraqi officials, politicians and intellectuals.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (03:12 P.M.) – The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Wednesday during the Sulaimani Forum that the Iraqi army and Peshmerga cooperation in the fight against ISIS demonstrates the commonalities between the two. praised the cooperation between the Iraqi army and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces against ISIS, and said it shows differences can be overcome.
