Security forces arrested on Friday an ISIS informer in al Ghazlani district in the right bank of Mosul city in Nineveh governorate, a source who required anonymity told the Baghdad Post.
 

The detainee was led to the jail after referring him to the police forces in the war-torn city.

The Mosul city is still full of ISIS sleeper cells who are still providing the terrorist group with information concerning the Iraqi forces and people.

Iraqi security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City.

Counter-terrorism forces regained on Friday from ISIS terrorist group Al Wershan cemetery in the right bank of Mosul city in Nineveh govenorate, a security source said.
 

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City.

Iraqi security forces liberated al-Warshan neighborhood in the right bank of Mosul from ISIS terrorists, 'We Are Coming, Nineveh' command announced on Friday.
 

In a statement, Commander Gen. Abd al-Amir Rashid Yarallah said that Counter-terrorism forces raised the Iraqi flag over al-Warshan neighborhood after inflicting heavy casualties on ISIS terrorists.
 

These efforts come as part of an offensive launched on 19^th of February by the US-backed Iraqi forces supported by Iranian-backed sectarian IMIS Shiite militias to oust ISIS terrorists from Mosul, their last major stronghold in Iraq.

US airstrikes kill dozens IMIS-linked militias on Iraqi-Syrian borders

US warplanes have bombed forces affiliated with Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) in Albu Kamal district, close to Iraqi-Syrian border, killing dozens of them, Abu Alaa al-Wa'eli, secretary general of Martyrs of Sayyid Battalions, or Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), announced on Friday. 

In a press statement, al-Wa'eli said that US warplanes had bombed Thursday night Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, affiliated with IMIS, at Albu Kamal border crossing near the Iraqi-Syrian border.

He did not provide further details. 

KSS are an Iraqi Shiite militia formed in 2013 allegedly to protect Shiite shrines across the globe.

It militarily supports al-Assad government in Syria and it has close ties to the Shiite Badr Organization.

UN says more Iraqis to flee Mosul amid fierce anti-ISIS battles

More Iraqis are expected to be forced out of Mosul as Iraqi forces push into the last ISIS-held positions in the city's right bank, the United Nations warned Friday. 

The UN estimated the number of would-be displaced people at up to 200,000 people. 

In a statement on Thursday, Lise Grande, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, said "As military operations intensify and move closer to Mosul's Old City area, we expect that up to 200,000 more people will flee".

Grande dubbed the figures as alarming.

Since the start of a US-backed offensive to retake Iraq's second largest city in October, nearly a million civilians have fled the war-torn city to displacement camps. 

Human rights groups  and activists have repeatedly voiced concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in those camps. 

Thousands of the displaced were killed or gone missing during the displacement journey. 

"The numbers of the people moving are now so large, it’s becoming more and more difficult to ensure civilians receive the assistance and protection they need," she said.

MOSUL — Iraqi forces managed to storm and recapture a part of the biggest district in western Mosul, killing a number of Islamic State (IS) militants in an airstrike.

 

The Iraqi War Media Cell quoted the Nineveh Operations Commander, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, as saying that the 9th Armoured Division of the Iraqi Army liberated the northern part of 17 Tamuz (July 17), which is the largest district in the western Mosul.

 

Yarallah further added that dozens of IS militants were killed as a result of an airstrike in the area, as Iraqi fighter jets launched several airstrikes that further destroyed booby-trapping workshop and vehicles.

 

The Iraqi government forces have been sweeping through Mosul's western neighborhoods over the past two weeks in a way to retake the strategic Old City district. This is part of the ongoing operation for liberating the city from the IS extremists which started in October last year.

MOSUL — Yet another area has been recaptured by the Iraqi forces in western Mosul on Friday. The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service recaptured the Rawshan area located in the northern region of western part of the city.

After having failed to advance into the Old City neighborhood from the southern side, the Iraqi forces opened a new front in the north earlier this month.

Recently two other districts have also been recaptured, the Iktisadiyeen and al-Rifaie districts, both located in the vicinity of the Old City.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasool approximately 90% of western Mosul has been brought under control of the Iraqi forces. Also noted was that about 16,000 Islamic State (IS) militants have been eliminated since the operation was launched in October.

The operation advanced into the western half of the city in February following eastern Mosul’s declared liberation in January.

According to some estimates, the operation may reach its end before the end of this month.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have gained control on part of the biggest west Mosul district and killed a number of Islamic State militants in an airstrike.

In statements on Friday, the War Media Cell quoted the Nineveh Operations Commander, Lt.Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, as saying that the 9th armored division retaken the northern part of 17 Tamuz (July 17) in the western side of Mosul.

In other statements, WMC said dozens of IS fighters were killed in airstrikes in western Mosul.

Iraqi fighter jets launched several airstrikes that destroyed booby-trapping workshop and vehicles and killed dozens of militants on Rifaie district.

“An IS headquarter and booby-trapping workshop were destroyed, while dozens of militants were killed on al-Zanjili district,” the statement added.

Iraqi forces have been sweeping through northwestern neighborhoods over the past two weeks in a way to invade the strategic Old City.

More than 16,000 IS members were killed since beginning of operations in Mosul, Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, the military spokesperson, said in a press conference on Tuesday declaring that 89.5 percent of western Mosul was liberated with only a few districts remaining under the militants’ control.

Eastern Mosul was liberated in January after three months of battles. Another major offensive was launched in February to retake the western side.

Iraqi Army breaks apart tiny ISIS pocket in Mosul as battle enters final stage

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:45 A.M.) – The Iraqi Armed Forces are moving ever closer to complete victory in the country’s second largest city after government troops spearheaded new key advancements on the western bank of the Tigris River on Thursday.

After liberating four neighborhoods earlier in the week, the Iraqi Army continued its blitz offensive by taking control of the Al-Rafaee district around noon.

Then, on Thursday afternoon, the Counter Terrorism Units began storming the Al-Najar neighborhood parallel to the Tigris River, thereby isolating the Old City and Al-Zanjali districts from a handful of ISIS-held suburbs to the north.

 

 

Should the Iraqi Armed Forces seize control of the Al-Najar neighborhood entirely, they would secure Mosul’s northern 5th bridge and deal a devastating blow to ISIS insurgents.

However, Iraqi contingents did not stop there as the Federal Police and Rapid Response Division proceeded to liberate the adjacent Al-Aqtasadeen neighborhood, an urban advance which reduced Islamic State control of Mosul city to less than 5%.

In addition, Iraqi troops liberated the ancient Christian monastery in the historically Assyrian Hawi Al-Kanisah area in northwestern Mosul and capture most of the vital ’17th Tammuz’ district.

Around 500 ISIS militants remain held up in the city, most of which are concentrated around the densely populated Old City neighborhood.

Meanwhile, Amaq Agency published a 40-minute Islamic State propaganda video depicting the battle for Mosul from the jihadist perspective.

Iraqi Army liberates another suburb in Mosul, reducing ISIS to its last neighborhoods

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:40 A.M.) – Following the capture of two neighborhoods yesterday, the Iraqi Army proceeded to liberate another suburb on Friday morning.

After clearing out the last jihadist sniper nests and ISIS gun positions, the Counter Terrorism Units were able to impose full control over the announce Al-Warshan district minutes ago. Sappers have now begun to demine the neighborhood.

Notably, ISIS controls little more than a handful of neighborhoods subject to increasing pressure by the Iraqi Federal Police, Rapid Response Division and Counter Terrorism Units, an Iraqi Army trio which have been tasked with mopping-up operations along the western bank of the Tigris River, eventually qulminating in the total liberation of Mosul.

 

Heavy clashes continue as we speak with government forces engaging around 500 ISIS insurgents left bogged down and totally outnumbered inside the city.

Another US airstrike targets pro-government forces near Syrian crossing: video

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:10 P.M.) – The U.S. Coalition carried out another airstrike against a group of pro-government Iraqi paramilitary fighters near the Syrian border-crossing, Iraq’s Afaq TV reported yesterday.

According to the Afaq report, members of the Iraqi paramilitary unit, Sayyed Al-Shuhada Regiment, were attacked, yesterday, by the U.S. Coalition near the Albukamal Border-Crossing in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

 

 

The report added that at least one Sayyed Al-Shuhada fighter was killed and another six were badly injured by the U.S. attack near Albukamal.

The Sayyed Al-Shuhada Regiment is part of the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi); they have participated in several offensives that have been backed by the U.S. military.

This attack was under reported because of the large strike by the U.S. Coalition on a Syrian military convoy near the Tanf Border-Crossing in southeast Homs.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi commander has been killed in western Mosul, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command declared on Thursday.

“The Joint Operations Command mourns Colonel Mohamed Moheil Suleiman al-Jabouri, commander of the third group of the 16th division, who was killed while fulfilling the national duty in western Mosul,” the War Media Cell said in a statement.

Eastern Mosul was retaken in January after three months of battles. Another major offensive was launched in February to drive the Islamic State militants out of the western flank of the city.

Violence and armed conflicts claimed the lives of 317 Iraqis, and caused injuries to 403 others during the month of April, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

The total figure of victims signalled a drop from 1115 victims in March.

Nineveh, where U.S.-backed Iraqi government troops are caught up in battles against Islamic State militants in Mosul since October, came on top of the most affected governorate, with 276 casualties (153 killed, 123 injured). Baghdad Governorate came next with 55 killed and 179 injured. Salahuddin came third, with 15 killed and 43 injured.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Five Iraqi soldiers and 12 Islamic State suicide bombers died in 24 hours of fighting in western Mosul as operations near a total recapture of the city, according to police officers.

BasNews quoted Brig. Gen. Mohamed al-Jubouri, from the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response forces, saying that the troops repelled a fierce attack by IS militants who used 20 booby-trapped vehicles. Twelve militants were killed in the attack which targeted troops at Tamuz, Mesherfa, Najjar and al-Rifaie neighborhoods.

Mohamed Jassem, a police officer from Mosul, also told BasNews that five police officers were killed and eight others were wounded Thursday when drones guided by Is militants bombed their deployment in al-Marir village, south of the city.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said Tuesday its forces took over 89.5 percent of territories in western Mosul, adding it had killed more than 16000 militants since the launch of Mosul operations in October.

Some generals were quoted saying they predict the city to be free before the end of this month.

Iraqi government forces are eyeing the ancient, densely structured and populated Old City, the place where Islamic State’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of an “Islamic Caliphate” in 2014. Troops besieged the area for weeks from the south, but turned to the northwestern axis to invade the city earlier this month. IS fighters are believed to have been holding hundreds of thousands at that area as human shields.

Awaited declaration of the right to edit the coast excludes the old city
