But to believe that crap and so brutally kill so many .....  it is difficult to imagine that they could be trusted to function properly a peaceful world.  I keep seeing those images of their countless executions and think of all the families they have destroyed.  There should be no safe place for these vermin.  Exterminate them all. Or lock them up with some of those wild hogs.  Here piggy piggy

Military units advanced on Northwest Axis of Mosul

Military units advanced on the northwest axis of Mosul city Monday morning, killing an ISIS leader, a source from the right bank of city said.

In exclusive statements to the Baghdad Post, the source added that residents of the western neighborhoods heard sounds of songs projected from military Humvees' microphones.

For his part, in a exclusive interview with the Baghdad Post, Major Mostafa al-Bahadli, a Rapid Response Forces commander, said that "sections of 9th Division and 37th Brigade killed the leader of the so-called ISIS suicide bombers brigade A.K.A. Abu Dujana al-Iraqi. This came during operations launched Monday morning in 30 Tamuz (July 30thdistrict, northwest of Mosul".

Security forces, backed by International Coalition warplanes and logistic support of the US army, have restored eastern Mosul and half of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City district.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorist group militants left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.

Nearly 300,000 Civilians Still Under IS Rule in Mosul: Minister

Nearly 300,000 Civilians Still Under IS Rule in Mosul: Minister

BAGHDAD — The number of Iraqi civilians trapped in the areas held by the Islamic State (IS) in western Mosul is estimated to be around 300,000 individuals, Iraqi minister said.

Since the beginning of the operations to liberate western part of Mosul in February, more than 434,000 civilians have been displaced form their homes due to military clashes there, said Jasim Muhammed, Iraq’s Minister of Displacement and Migration.

Between 6,000 to 7,000 civilians are arriving in the areas under the control of government forces every day after they risk their lives to escape IS, he revealed.

The operation to liberate Mosul was launched on 17 October last year, almost three months after which the government troops announced full control over the eastern half of the city. Later in February, the Iraqi army, backed by the US-led coalition launched a new assault aiming at recapturing the western part of Mosul.

Iraqi military officials have previously confirmed the liberation of a vast area since February, saying IS is nearing its end with its rapid territorial loss to the Iraqi army.

Number of Western Mosul IDPs Exceeds 435,000: UN

Number of Western Mosul IDPs Exceeds 435,000: UN

LEEDS — More than 435,000 displaced people have left the northern Iraqi city of Mosul since the start of the operation against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in western Mosul, the United Nations (UN) said.

According to the UN, around 403,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) used to live in the western parts of Mosul back in 2014, when IS emerged in Iraq. However, the organization reported that the estimated number of people who have left western Mosul since the start of the military operations is around 435,000, with 32,000 who have not been able to go back to the eastern side of the city.

UN further expressed concern over the large number of civilians who remain in the IS-held areas of west Mosul to this moment. The operations in the areas are ongoing as the Iraqi forces, backed by the US-led coalition, continue advancing against the IS militants.

The government of Iraqi launched an operation for the liberation of Mosul back in October 2016. By the beginning of this year the Iraqi forces managed to recapture the entire eastern part of the city and move on to recapturing the remaining western areas of Mosul.

Iraqi Army makes fresh gains in west Mosul: video

BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:40 A.M.) – The Iraqi army continued its battle against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Mosul on Sunday as it advances towards north-western districts of the city.

Snipers calculated distances while federal police determined IS positions.

Earlier in the day, two Kurdish fighters were killed after IS members detonated explosives on their persons at the Kurdish K-1 airbase on the outskirts of Kirkuk.

The militant group is said to be deploying similar tactics in Mosul as well as car bombs.

The military operation against IS in the embattled city of Mosul began on October 17 last year.

IS captured the city in 2014, and the offensive is now fronted by the Iraqi military and a coalition of forces, against IS.

Thousands of Mosul residents have been forced to flee the fighting as the campaign continues.

Ministry: more than 3000 IS militants killed in western Mosul offensive

Bodies of members of the Islamic State group.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Security operations to retake western Mosul from Islamic State militants have killed 3320 militants since their launch in February 19th, said the Iraqi Interior Ministry on Monday.

Wahab al-Taei, the ministry’s media adviser, was quoted by Almaalomah news website that the ministry’s Federal Police forces took over 525 villages and regions since the start of operations, adding that the battle was nearing its end after the forces brought down the group’s last defense lines.

“Nuri al-Kabir mosque, which witnessed the emergence of terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has become within reach, and only a few hundred meters are left to declare full liberation,” he said, referring to the mosque where IS supreme leader declared the establishment of the group’s rule in Iraq and neighboring Syria 2014.

Whatsapp

Taei’s announcement comes as Iraqi forces continue to sweep through major districts in northwestern Mosul, shifting to a new axis of operations after finding it difficult to advance to the IS-held Old City from the south.

A week earlier, the Federal Police command said its forces had killed more than 850 Islamic State members, destroyed more than 500 booby-trapped cars and motorbikes belonging to the group and recaptured a total of 274 square kilometers of territory since the launch of assaults to retake western Mosul in February

Iraqi forces retook eastern Mosul in January after three months of battles.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces recaptured Monday more districts on their new axis of operations against Islamic State militants in western Mosul, a senior commander said in statements.

Federal Police chief, Lt. Gen Shaker Jawdat, said in statements that his forces took over Shuqaq al-Haramat district, while moving forward at al-Haramat al-Thaniya, approaching Ektesadiyen and the major Islamic State stronghold district of 17 Tamuz (July 17th). Jawdat said 16 militants were killed and several combat equipment were destroyed during the offensives.

Earlier on Monday, Maj. Gen. Maan al-Saaid, a senior commander at the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service, said in statements that his forces moved towards the ٍSena’at Wadi Akab region, encircling areas on the outskirts of that region.

Saadi said fierce fighting was ongoing with IS militants, but predicted the group’s resistance to wane shortly.

Whatsapp

The developments come as Iraqi forces opened last week a new front targeting the strategic, IS-held Old City from the northwestern direction, having struggled for weeks to invade the densely populated and narrowly structured area from its southern entrances.

Iraqi commanders have reported dozens of deaths among Islamic State militants and the recapture of large parts of districts falling next to the Old City from the northwest.

Earlier on Monday, a spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said ministry forces had killed 3320 IS members since the offensive to retake western Mosul was launched in February. Iraqi forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting.
Iraqi commanders say they currently control at least 70 percent of territory in the western side of Mosul.

Islamic State executes two members in Anbar for escaping Mosul battles

by a46ed14a8c1d95162d7b6827eedc1639?s=80&d= Mohamed Mostafa May 8, 2017, 12:30 pm

Islamic State execute 4 members on charges of cowardice west of Mosul

Qaim (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State members executed two comrades on Monday in Anbar province after they had escaped battles against Iraqi government forces in neighboring Mosul.

Aljournal news website quoted a security source saying that a firing squad shot the pair dead near a hospital in the city of Qaim, west of Anbar. The pair’s families were forced to move to Raqqa, the group’s main bastion in neighboring Syria, seizing their vehicles and residences, according to the source.

The source added that the group threatened to kill any member attempting to similarly escape from the group’s strongholds of Qaim, Rawa and Annah, the western Anbar towns which the group has held since 2014. They warned that the families of members who would attempt to escape would be denied movement and will have their cell phones and passports confiscated.

Whatsapp

Last week, Alsumaria News reported that the Islamic State had issued arrest warrants for several members who had fled fighting against Iraqi troops in western Mosul to neighbouring Syria. It quoted sources saying that the group’s so-called “security department” in Nineveh ordered that those who return voluntarily to the battlefield shall receive 90 lashes and two months in jail, while those caught while at large should be executed.

Since Iraqi troops, backed by the U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, launched a campaign in October to retake Mosul from the Islamic State, the group has been sustaining severe losses in terms of personnel and finances, with hundreds of senior leaders killed and others reported at large. The group has occasionally executed or levied harsh punishments on members for either attempting to escape or for slack performance on the battlefield.

Iraqi commanders have claimed control over 70 percent over western Mosul. Eastern Mosul was declared militants-free in January.

Civilians complicate final phase of Mosul campaign: U.S. commander

Mosul (Reuters) The Islamic State fighters herded a group of civilians into a house in the city of Mosul and locked them inside as Iraqi forces advanced. Moments later, the militants entered through a window, lay low for a few minutes, then fired their weapons.

The plan was simple. They would draw attention to the house by firing from the windows, then move to an adjacent building through a hole in the wall, in hope of goading coalition jets flying above to strike the house.

What the militants did not realize was that U.S. advisers partnered with Iraqi troops were watching the whole thing on an aerial drone feed. No air strike was called – and the propaganda coup Islamic State would have reaped from the deaths of innocent people was averted.

“We automatically knew what they were trying to do. They were trying to bait us into destroying this building,” said U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel James Browning. “This is the game that we play, this is the challenge that we go through every day.”

The challenge is only increasing as U.S.-backed Iraqi forces squeeze the militants into a smaller and smaller area of Mosul, where they are now trapped along with several hundred thousand civilians.

“There is nowhere to go…. the battlefield is much more complicated with the amount of civilians that are moving,” Browning said.

The risks are high: more than 100 civilians were accidentally killed in a single airstrike by the U.S.-led coalition in March.

FINAL PHASE

After opening up a new front in northwest Mosul last week in order to stretch the militants’ defenses, Iraqi forces say the battle for Mosul is now in its final phase.

U.S. servicemen are visible near the frontlines advising the Iraqis as they advance into the last handful of districts controlled by Islamic State, facing a barrage of suicide car bombs and sniper fire.

Browning, a battalion commander from the 82nd Airborne Division, is one of more than 5,000 U.S. service members currently deployed in Iraq to “advise and assist” security forces that collapsed when Islamic State overran Mosul nearly three summers ago.

It is a much smaller footprint than the 170,000 troops deployed at the height of the nine-year occupation that followed the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, during which more than 4,000 American soldiers were killed.

Having extricated U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011, the White House is loath to re-enter a costly conflict that would prove unpopular with the public.

For Browning, who was deployed to Iraq in 2008, the nature of the U.S. role is clearly different.

“Whereas before it was me leading fights and I would ask my Iraqi partners to come with me, now… he leads the fight and I follow him,” he said. “The biggest difference is that we are no longer in a combat role.”

Since the Mosul offensive began last October, the U.S. role has evolved so that American forces are now partnered with Iraqi troops at a lower level, reducing the time it takes them to respond to Islamic State.

That means company commanders under Browning are also partnered with brigade commanders who report to his Iraqi opposite number, Lieutenant General Qassem al-Maliki.

They hold daily discussions on operations and determine what U.S. forces can do to help, which may involve providing imagery, intelligence, air strikes, or ground fire.

The Iraqis also provide human intelligence that the U.S. forces will corroborate in order to identify targets and determine the best approach to attacking them.

Browning lives on the same base as Maliki, commander of the Iraqi 9th division, making it easier to finetune battle plans.

“Everything I am trying to do is try to shape the battlefield for him”.

Voiceover by Harold Hoover

The US-backed military operation against ISIS terrorists in the Iraqi city of Mosul is approaching its final phase.

Iraqi security forces (ISF), backed up by US-led coalition warplanes, attack helicopters, and special operation forces, have made significant progress against ISIS terrorists in the northern and southern parts of western Mosul, out-flanking the Old Mosul area and nearby neighborhoods which remain strongholds of ISIS terrorists in the city.

The ISF advance in western Mosul is on-going amid heavy clashes with ISIS terrorists who actively use suicide bombers and snipers. At the same time, experts note a lower frequency of the usage of suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (SVBIEDs) by ISIS in comparison to the early stages of the battle for Mosul. This means that the terrorist group is suffering from a lack of explosives and vehicles which could be used for creating SVBIEDs. This, as well as the shortage of weapons and ammunition, predetermines the results of the battle.

However, the current progress of ISF, actively backed up by the US-led coalition, shows that ISIS is still capable of defending its positions in heavy urbanized areas. The terrorist group has a motivated infantry. Furthermore, ISIS members actively use the favorable environment of western Mosul.

Meanwhile, ISIS has increased guerilla activity in Syria and Iraq. Earlier this month, 5 ISIS suicide bombers attacked the Kiwan military base operated by Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the US military in Iraq.  The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that the base was being used by US forces to oversee landing operations against important ISIS sites or commanders in Syria and Iraq. Amaq claimed that ISIS members managed to destroy two Humvee vehicles during the attack after infiltrating the base. One of the attackers blew himself up at the entrance to the base. Two suicide bombers blew themselves up along with some Peshmerga forces inside the base. Amaq argued that the clashes continued for two hours ending with the killing of all the attackers.

Earlier, another group of ISIS suicide bombers attacked several positions inside the Syrian city of Hasaka, controlled by US-backed Kurdish forces.

The collapse of ISIS as a terrorist state in the territory of Syria and Iraq will push the terrorist group to revise its Middle East strategy. It will likely halt attempts to keep formal control over villages and towns and focus on guerilla warfare and terrorist attacks against military and civilian targets.
