Parliamentary power: Kurds did not provide a convincing justification for non-commitment to pay oil money

Recommended Posts

They both need to get their houses in order to move forward, and they both know it. The Kurds are most likely waiting Maliki's reins to be put in place before they will  trust anything to do  Baghdad. The Nut Case just announced this past week he is looking to assassinate Abadi because of the way the elections might be handled. That loose canon has got to be dealt with in a very firm manor to let the other hard hitters know the money train is no longer running. Let them go running over to Saudi Arabia and try to milk them for some chump change. The Kurd's also know their arses aren't any cleaner then Baghdad's  when it comes to leeching off their own. Abadi needs to get back out there and motivate the country into working together with motivational speeches like " Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!" JFK,  or  "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."  Martin L King,  and  “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.” —Mother Teresa.  He needs to move the country in a way it has never been prompted before and do it now!!!!  imho

Barzani in Response to Hashd al-Shaabi: Kurds Ready to Defend Kirkuk

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani has reiterated that Kirkuk is a Kurdish territory and they are ready to defend it whenever a threat is directed at the city.

President's remarks are seemingly made in response to the threats by the Shi’ite Arab militias of Hashd al-Shaabi who are attempting to increase their military presence across Kirkuk province.

Talking to BBC Persian service, Barzani also reaffirmed that the independence referendum will be held on time with no delay. He also stated that no negotiation on independence will be held with Baghdad prior to the referendum.

Kurdistan Region has set the independence vote for 25th September. Despite concerns made by the neighbouring countries over the timing of the referendum, Erbil has made it clear that there is no “turning back” on the plan.

Commenting on the possibility of a blockade of the borders by Iran and Turkey, the Kurdish president predicted that the neighbouring countries will not make such a decision due to their economic interests in trading with Kurdistan Region.

PUK and KIG Meet over Parliament Reactivation

ERBIL — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) met on Saturday with the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) to discuss the issues pertaining to the suspended parliament of Kurdistan Region.

Following the meeting in a press conference, leading PUK member, Latif Sheikh Omer described the discussion as “fruitful”.

He told reporters that they talked about the efforts on calling the parliament back into session. “We certainly all together will reactivate the parliament,” the official said without elaborating on any concrete decisions if made.

Due to political disputes between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Change Movement (Gorran) back in October 2015, parliament sessions were suspended.

Despite unconditional proposals by the KDP to reactivate the parliament, Gorran is yet to take a step forward and negotiations are ongoing.

The disputing sides are hoping to reach a consensus before the scheduled independence referendum on 25th September.

However, PUK has previously said that they may resume the parliamentary sessions without Gorran if the party continues to show reluctance to the proposed agreements.

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are set to meet in the upcoming days for discussions over the reactivation of Kurdistan Region Parliament, and official said.

The two major parties will hold the meeting on Sunday or Monday this week, hoping to finally find the best mechanism to call the parliament back into sessions, said PUK Spokesperson Sa’di Ahmed Pira.

Concerning the Change Movement (Gorran) and its involvement in the efforts to reactivate the parliament, Pira reiterated that the party is welcome, but the other sides would make a decision if Gorran refuses to take a step forward in the process.

“We don't have time to wait any longer,” the spokesperson said.

The statement comes a day after a senior delegation from PUK met with Gorran to discuss the issue, but the discussion ended with no concrete decision at the end.

Barzani Refuses Arab League's Request to Postpone Referendum

ERBIL — Meeting with the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Ghent in Erbil, Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani has made it clear that holding the independence referendum is a decision of the people and political parties of Kurdistan Region, and cannot be postponed by an individual.

According to a press release by Kurdistan Region Presidency, (KRP) the pair reviewed the prolonged disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, with the Kurdish president reminding his guest about Baghdad’s failure to remain committed to a genuine political partnership with Erbil.

“Mutual agreements and the constitution have been violate,” Barzani stated, noting that these violations have led the Kurdistan Region to hold an independence referendum as it is the best peaceful mean towards self-determination.

Commending the role of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the war against Islamic State (IS), Gheit said that the stability and strength of the Kurdistan Region is of significant importance to the Arab League.

He also requested Barzani to postpone the independence vote and give the Erbil-Baghdad negotiations another chance in hopes of finding common grounds to live together.

In response, Barzani said, “Referendum is not a personal decision to be delayed easily; but the decision of the people and political factions of Kurdistan”.

As long as Kurdistan in Iraq its problems won't be solved

Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party leader Muhammad Haji Mahmud asserted on Saturday that Kurdistan's problems won't be solved as long as it stays in Iraq.

He added that Kurdistan's officials are convinced that the region's existence in Iraq is only complicating their problems.

Mahmud further added that the referendum is a legitimate right to Kurdistan, as nobody said that region must stay in Iraq forever, noting that the country itself was formed by The Sykes-Picot Agreement.

He stressed that the referendum is the only way to unite the Kurds to solve the problems and issues that they face.

This comes as Kurdistan will carry

Speaking to BasNews, Abdulla Saeed said voting to the referendum on independence of the Kurdistan Region from Iraq is a religious national duty for the entire people of Kurdistan.

Regarding the position of Islamic scientists and preachers to the referendum, Saeed stated they back the decision by Kurdistan Region political leadership for holding the referendum on September 25 this year and will do their best for encouraging the public to vote in the process.
