Iraq's new Prime Minister al-Abadi has renounced his British citizenship since assuming office last week, three government officials close to the premier said Sunday, Sept. 14. (AP Photo/Hadi Mizban, File) (The Associated Press) BAGHDAD – Iraqi lawmakers say the country's prime minister has made his decision on the remaining posts in his Cabinet, including the critical positions of interior minister and defense minister. Hussein al-Maliki and Hamad Saadoun, two lawmakers with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's State of Law bloc, say the Iraqi premier will name Sunni lawmaker Jaber al-Jabberi as defense minister, and Riyad Ghareeb, a Shiite lawmaker with the State of Law bloc, as interior minister. The lawmakers say that the selection of Ghareeb has been met with some contention, mostly from the Shiite Badr Brigade, but say that the decision is final. Parliament approved the majority of al-Abadi's Cabinet on Sept. 8 and officially voted him in as the country's prime minister. link:http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/09/16/iraqi-officials-prime-minister-has-completed-cabinet-filling-key-posts-defense/ Edited September 16, 2014 by easyrider

uncirculd
A Sunni as defense minister? Game changer if true. Thanks for the post. Awesome. Totally plural. A sunni and a shiite, interior and defense. It works. At least we hope it does.
ReVbo
A Sunni as defense minister? Game changer if true. Thanks for the post. Defense will be a Sunni, but the parliament rejected these two nominees today. Hopefully, they'll try again on Thursday.

JMULS31
There's articles out of Iraq saying the defense and interior are being pushed back until Thursday. Who knows what to believe anymore
ReVbo
There's articles out of Iraq saying the defense and interior are being pushed back until Thursday. Who knows what to believe anymore The two are not mutually exclusive. Fox just reported that Abadi had named his nominees. They never said they had been approved by Parliament. I think everyone just assumed, as easy as the first batch of ministers was to get approved, that these guys would be, too. Not so much.

sanders2340
I read somewhere that they did vote. It was 251 ministers in attendance. The defense minister nominee received 107 votes. The interior received 118 votes. Therefore, both didn't receive a majority.
