Shafaq News / An informed source reported on Monday, a new meeting between Iraq and the United States of America on the dollar.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that "a meeting is expected between the Central Bank of Iraq and the US Treasury Department next week."

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani informed the US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury on September 19 in New York of the breadth of his government's work in reducing money laundering, while the latter pointed to restoring the confidence of global financial institutions.

Today, Monday (November 20, 2023), an informed source reported an upcoming meeting between the Central Bank of Iraq and the US Treasury Department next week.

The source told Baghdad Today that "the meeting will be on the dollar and the work of banks in Iraq."

Government sources, with a recent agreement between the Central Bank of Iraq and the US side, resulted in an increase in the number of banks that can enhance their dollar balance directly to 10 banks, 5 of them through Citibank, and the other five through JP Morgan, according to the Iraqi News Agency.

He also revealed that the number of Iraqi banks whose balances will be strengthened in Chinese yuan through the Singapore Development Bank will increase to 13 banks, while the number of banks that have strengthened their accounts in Indian rupees with the Singapore Development Bank is 2, and other banks will be added during the next two weeks.

Other meetings took place between one of the UAE banks, the Central Bank of Iraq and the US side, to implement the mechanism for enhancing balances in UAE dirhams for Iraqi banks, where all technical details have been resolved, and it is expected that the mechanism for enhancing balances in UAE dirhams will begin in the next few days.

Baghdad – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and US Ambassador Alina Romanowski
discussed the themes of the meeting of the Central Bank of Iraq and the US Treasury to be held next week.

The media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, received on Monday evening, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq, Mrs. Alina Romanowski, and during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed, and joint cooperation files in various fields were discussed, and the meeting also discussed cooperation relations between the Central Bank of Iraq and the US Treasury, as a number of axes will be discussed in the meeting to be held by the two parties next week."
He added that "the meeting touched on the tragic events taking place in Gaza, and the crimes of genocide targeting innocent civilians by the occupation authorities, and pointed to the magnitude of the serious violations of the rights of Palestinians, and the worsening of the humanitarian situation."
The Prime Minister affirmed, according to the statement, "Iraq's firm and principled position on the Palestinian issue," stressing "the need to stop the aggressions committed by the occupation forces, open safe corridors and allow the entry of food and medical aid to civilians, as well as ensuring the rights of Palestinians to a decent and safe life."
He pointed to "Iraq's commitment to protecting diplomatic missions, as well as protecting security advisers within the international coalition mission to fight ISIS," stressing that "the security services are carrying out their legal duties in maintaining security and stability on Iraqi territory."

 I think the CBI is going to let the 10 Iraqi banks through Citibank and JPMorgan handle the dollars sales. This will give the UST  more control over the dollar file.
