The upcoming parliamentary elections are characterized by a large number of great economic promises, as the speeches, slogans and advertisements of some political alliances or candidates focus on improving the economy and solving its complex problems easily and easily, and making it a rosy world free of debt, austerity, inflation, taxes and unemployment.
Some of these candidates are betting on using quick solutions to the crises we are experiencing today, but this bet is a loser and their solutions are just an illusion, because reforming the economy requires a long time and a clearly defined program and concept of implementation. Which means more suffering and crises.
And when the candidate wins the parliamentary elections and the new government is formed, he will find that he needs to take steps and economic measures that do not agree with the desire of the street who elected him. He turns a blind eye to using real reform to speak, look and appear on television to discuss reality with illogical words and far from the promises he made to the parliament. He will take into consideration his party's policy to legislate and implement prosthetic solutions that will satisfy politicians only.
But there is another group, and they are the owners of realistic programs, and it is the real economist who will be in danger. The American economic writer Todd J. Buckels describes this danger in the introduction to the first chapter of the book “New Ideas from Departed Economists,” by saying, “It is not easy to be a thinker.” Economically, corporate executives attack them for not accurately calculating costs and profits, philanthropists accuse them of being scrutinizing in costs and profits, and politicians view economic thinkers as self-sabotaging who do not allow politicians to promise the masses prosperity without offering any sacrifice.
A number of satirical writers have devoted their time to attacking them; The likes of George Bernard Shaw and Thomas Carlyle.
Indeed, the season of attack on economic thinkers has begun since Carlyle called economics the dismal science.

Unfortunately, Iraq is almost devoid of real economic thought, because it will fail, as it is far from courtesy and does not fit the whims of the street and does not achieve any gains for politicians, because real and frank economic opinion will face ostracism, humiliation, and even defamation, and perhaps even murder.
The magic mixture for your success as an economist in Iraq:
to speak in a way that pleases the street and attracts the attention of the media and intellectual cafes, and to be a source of information for politicians who use your flattering ideas in their sessions and even in their legislation.

Shafaq News/ An informed political source revealed, on Monday, that the Iraqi political forces will hold an important meeting this week with the judiciary and the United Nations regarding early elections.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, "The meeting is scheduled to be held during the next two days, including Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and all Iraqi political forces, to take important decisions regarding the early parliamentary elections and the date for them."

He added that "the political forces that announced the boycott of the elections, were invited to attend this meeting, which will be attended by the Board of Commissioners of the Electoral Commission and the Supreme Judicial Council in addition to the United Nations."

Earlier today, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi warned, during his visit to the Tarmiyah region, north of Baghdad, against exploiting the departments, resources and projects of the state for the benefit of the candidates for the upcoming elections scheduled for next October.

The parliamentary elections scheduled for the tenth of October face political obstacles and objections that call for postponing them, secretly or publicly, due to the lack of the appropriate political, security and logistical grounds.

Iraqi political forces are afraid of running for elections due to the lack of equal opportunities for electoral competition and the control of powerful political forces and parties over the state's resources, capabilities, and addresses for electoral promotion and the exclusion of other opponents.

The political blocs intend to hold a meeting during the next stage to decide the fate of the upcoming elections, while the governorates continue their logistical and security preparations to hold them.
Parliament member Sarkot Shams El-Din told Al-Sabah that "the political blocs intend to meet among themselves to decide the fate of the upcoming elections," noting that "these blocs will then meet with the Prime Minister to decide that." And he indicated that "the Commission has made its preparations regarding the upcoming elections, which will hopefully be held on the tenth of next October," and added that "the date of the meeting has not been set yet," expecting that the date will be "next week."
For his part, the expert on elections affairs, Saad Al-Rawi, criticized the party alliances, describing them as "fragile". In an interview with "Al-Sabah", Al-Rawi attributed the most important reasons for this matter "to the absence of an internal system for these parties, and if any, the party leader is the one who decides, while the rest do not have any powers, in addition to the lack of a decision-making mechanism in all coalitions and parties. And the absence of a committee in any party or alliance to choose positions correctly and successfully, and there is no specialized committee to select candidates within their electoral plan, noting that “all parties and alliances are punctuated by these problems, and they continue, before and after, and there is no party except rarely exceeded those reasons."
And he indicated that "everything that the election law wrote about coalitions and mergers is a few lines, and did not address their conditions and controls and how they organize their work, so there is a problem in our laws because they are short and do not exceed twenty pages, which compels the commission to legislate and issue decisions and regulations for alliances, including details How the slogan and names of the parties are presented, and the heads of the parties sign, when these matters are supposed to be detailed by law.”

For his part, the Dutch politician told the UN Security Council: "No matter how many technical measures have been put in place, it is up to them all to refrain from any attempt to impose or distort the election results."

The US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, also called for "free and fair elections" and said US donations of about $15 million to monitor the elections would pave the way for a "better future for Iraqis."

 Baghdad: Muhammad Al-Ansari

The President of the Republic, Dr. Barham Salih, considered the upcoming elections “a means towards reform and change and addressing the accumulated crises in the country.” While pointing out that the persistent conflicts in the region were due to the collapse of its system, he called for creating a new structure in the region to meet the challenges of the times such as terrorism, economic fluctuations and dangerous climate changes.
Saleh said in a speech, yesterday evening, Sunday, during the opening of the activities of the "Al-Rafidain Forum for Dialogue" in the capital, Baghdad: "The Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership was an eloquent message, which is that Iraq, which was a title for conflict and rivalry, has become a point of convergence of the interests of the peoples of the region."
He added that "the upcoming elections in October should be a starting point towards real solutions to the current situations, as the elections are ultimately not a goal to achieve, but rather a means towards reform and change and addressing the accumulated crises in the country."

He continued, "The elections may be one of the interim solutions," explaining that "we must look at the elections as a paving way and an important way to initiate the reform plan in the next political stage, and there must be great concessions from everyone, and without this mentality we will not find a way to a solution." .
Under the slogan "Solutions", the Al-Rafidain Forum for Dialogue - 2021 was launched in the capital, Baghdad, in partnership with (25) think tanks and research, and global strategic centers, and in the presence of a large group of local and international political and governmental figures, and it will continue today, Monday and tomorrow. Tuesday.
