Alsumaria News / Baghdad
newspaper "Daily Telegraph" chose a headline stating " the end of a global system , " the opening of her article , which dealt with the European dispute with the United States on the re - imposition of sanctions on Iran .

The editorial says that Europe found itself in conflict with America after the entry into force of the new batch of sanctions imposed by Washington on Iran.

The sanctions will target companies that continue to trade with Tehran with financial penalties and other restrictions, it added.

Brussels has given some legal protection to European companies that continue to deal with Iran, but most are unlikely to risk challenging these sanctions.

President Trump, in his flurry of success with North Korea, believes the tough stance will lead to new talks with Iran that would improve his predecessor, Barack Obama. He supports his demands by waving the military option, as he did with Pyongyang.

She adds that it is not the first time that the US president is happy to break a commitment to a general international position, believing that his only way is the right one.

The newspaper lamented the results of the US decision to damage the Iranian economy, which was hit hard, as well as the escalation of political unrest that may threaten the rule of ayatollahs.

"Iran on the edge of the abyss"

It also points to the welcome of countries "fearful of Tehran's expansionist tendencies," as is the case with Saudi Arabia and Israel, with Trump insisting that any new agreement must include both the nuclear program and the support of terrorism.

The price to be paid for this is the gradual dismantling of what has been used to be a united Western approach to the threat of countries such as Iran and Russia.

Trump's policy of "America First" has broken down the world order since 1945, and its long-term consequences will come to Britain after the exit from the European Union and the rest of the world.

Other newspapers have also devoted extensive news stories to re-imposing US sanctions on Iran, opinion pieces and analyzes of their effects and dimensions, as with the Financial Times, which has covered its front page headline as "

Devoted one of its internal pages to an expanded report from its correspondents in Tehran about the economic situation in the country and the rise in prices of commodities and deal with different social strata and the government with them.

The Times also published an editorial in the same context under the title "Iran on the brink of the abyss," focusing on the protests that spread over the past six days in the streets of Iran on high prices and the devaluation of the Iranian currency and corruption of the government bureaucracy.

Economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran will have a negative impact on Iraq because of trade relations between the two countries, economic expert Firas Zuwain said Tuesday.

"Iraq could be affected by US sanctions against Iran because neighboring countries are based on mutual benefit, any damage to any country that affects one or the other of neighboring countries," Zwein said.

He added that 'Iraq has strong economic ties with Iran, where the volume of trade exchange between the two countries $ 9 billion, certainly any sanctions imposed on Iran will be reflected negatively on the Iraqi reality,' noting that 'Iran has very limited alternatives can not stop the export of its industry to Iraq Or to any other neighboring country but things may differ from before the imposition of sanctions'.

He added that 'the blockade imposed by America weighs heavily on Iran and its neighboring countries. The barrier here will be on the part of Iraq more than the Iranian side because Iran has nothing to lose. Iraq also has commercial and political ties with America.' And the public might create problems for Iraq with America is indispensable '.

He pointed out that 'European companies with their vigilance and durability fear the US sanctions in the event of continuing trade relations with Iran, how the Iraqi economic situation, which is more fragile than these companies'.

US President Donald Trump had earlier signed an executive order that would reinstate a package of sanctions against Iran, three months after Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal.

US sanctions on Iran entered into force on Tuesday morning, targeting a number of sectors of Iran's vital economy and restricting foreign companies' dealings with them in preparation for a ban on its oil. a

Shortly after the re-entry of US sanctions on the Iranian regime, US President Donald Trump threatened tough sanctions for anyone dealing with Iran.
"The United States will not trade with anyone doing business with Iran," Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday. "I ask for world peace, nothing less."

The US president said the sanctions against the Iranian regime, which suffers from economic problems and a currency collapse, "are the most severe."

Trump stressed that sanctions on Iran "will reach a higher level in November."

"The Iranian regime has to choose either to change its destabilizing behavior, to reintegrate into the global economy, or to move forward on a path of economic isolation," Trump said in a statement.

The sanctions against Iran were lifted following the signing of the agreement on Tehran's nuclear file in 2015 with the six major powers, before Trump withdrew in May.

The first batch of US sanctions, which came into effect at 4:01 am (GMT) on Tuesday, targets financial transactions and imports of raw materials, as well as the automotive and commercial aviation sectors.

The effects of Washington's sanctions are expected to severely impact many aspects of Iranian life, not only on the economic side but also on the social side, which the Iranian regime fears.

This could be part of the Belt And Road Initiative from China to Europe and back. This would be a HUGE boost to the economies in the land path of the Belt And Road Initiative to include Iran. Just need to get rid of the pesky miscreant local leaders for Security And Stability for this piece of the ancient Silk Road. As a related issue, I wonder what will happen with Afghanistan since Afghanistan as well is rich in world sought after minerals but lacks the transportation and economic infrastructure. With modern international conduits potentially passing through Afghanistan in the future, I could picture Afghanistan being on the heels of Iraq and Iran for economic development provided the pesky miscreant local leaders are all changed out and terrorism is virtually eradicated that would be problematic for the transfer of goods into and out of these countries.

Abadi: We oppose the US sanctions against Iran and will not interact with them

BAGHDAD / MESSALA: Prime Minister Haider Abadi, announced on Tuesday, 7 August 2018, Iraq's opposition to US economic sanctions against Iran.

"Iraq is paying the biggest price for unjust sanctions imposed on him 13 years ago to weaken the former regime, but it led to the disruption of our people, destroyed the Iraqi social fabric and made the regime stronger in suppressing the people. This is why we have a principle of categorical rejection of sanctions," Abadi said at his weekly press conference. .

"We will not deal with the sanctions, but we will abide by them not to direct the Iraqis to harm and to protect our people. We can not go beyond the international system and the world economy, and we will not harm the interests of our people," he said.

US sanctions on Iran entered into force on Tuesday morning, August 07, 2018, bringing a number of sectors of the Iranian economy to life and restricting foreign companies' dealings with them in preparation for a ban on its oil .

Some of these articles are written by and for us here in the US.  They are political puff pieces.  I see rare mention, if ever about China's promise to up their purchases from Iran to offset their US driven loses.  Russia has made similar promises and today the Europeans with UK, Germany and France in strong support, have promised to continue their trade with Iran as long as Iran continues to keep to the multilateral accord done with the 5 of them, ie. US now excluded.  They are now working on plans to compensate companies harmed by the US sanctions.  Our blind support of the Sunni terrorists responsible for 9.11, Al Qaeda, and ISIS by showing our blind allegiance to their Saudi Arabian financial backers, in the ages old religious war between the Sunnis and the Shiites is sheer idiocy and an untenable long term policy.  The Shiites may be bastards but the Sunnis are very possibly even worse.

More than 100 major companies have suspended their dealings with Tehran

08-08-2018 01:19 PM

The Euphrates -

Germany's Daimler AG has joined a long list of international companies by announcing a suspension of its business in Iran after the United States reinstated sanctions on Tehran.

"We suspended our already limited activities in Iran in compliance with the applicable sanctions," the French Press Agency quoted a spokeswoman for the group as saying yesterday, ending a cooperation agreement it signed with two Iranian companies to assemble Mercedes-Benz trucks.

The resolution shows the fragility of the European Union's position on the nuclear deal and its inability to persuade European companies to continue working with Iran, despite pledging yesterday to "protect European economic actors engaged in legitimate business with Iran."

Analysts say that the European statements aimed to save face only after senior officials confirmed their despair of the possibility of continuing to treat the companies of their countries with Iran.

French Economy Minister Bruno Lemerre acknowledged that French companies would not be able to stay in Iran at a time when they were carrying out a massive evacuation of their activities in Iran. German Foreign Minister Haikou Mas also stressed that Europe has never been able to protect its companies from US sanctions.

The European deficit appears clear in the EIB's announcement that it can not continue to deal with Iran although it is the European Commission's investment arm.

The French Peugeot-Citroen group, Iran's biggest auto trader, has announced a suspension of a major car production project in Iran in cooperation with two Iranian companies, but Renault Group, which has no dealings in the United States, remains reluctant to make a final decision.

Analysts are likely to accelerate the pace of compliance by companies from around the world with US sanctions when they have to choose between continuing their dealings with the US economy and Iran's struggling economy.

Meanwhile, the New York Times quoted State Department officials as saying that more than 100 international companies had agreed to leave the Iranian market as US sanctions came into effect.
The officials, who did not disclose the list of companies, said the sanctions would put unprecedented pressure on Iran's economy, but stressed that the purpose was not to change Iran's regime but to change its behavior.

The first round of US sanctions entered into force yesterday with a ban on buying the dollar against the Iranian government, banning trade in gold and precious metals, raw materials and metals such as aluminum, iron and coal, as well as software used in industrial operations.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned all countries not to deal with Tehran and said new sanctions imposed by Washington on Iran would be "the most hurtful of all."

The list of companies that withdrew early from dealing with Iran includes France's Total, all European refineries, Airbus and Siemens, as well as all European refineries.

Major shipping companies, including Maersk Tankers, have suspended any dealings with Iran and have scheduled their current agreements to expire before the second phase of sanctions comes into force on November 4, which includes a ban on dealing with Iran's oil, petrochemicals and ports.

South Korea's energy companies have preceded all other companies and have already stopped buying Iranian oil since last month, according to the shipping tracking evidence.

Reliance, India's largest oil refining company, said it would suspend its dealings with Iranian oil and said it was keen on its dealings with the United States. Indian refining company Nayara Energy, one of Iran's biggest oil buyers, has also cut its imports in preparation for a halt because of fears of US sanctions.

Pertamina, Indonesia's energy company, has been set up in Iran's province and its chief executive, Nikki Widawati, has announced a freeze on an agreement to operate Mansuri oilfield in Iran because the company wants to maintain the country's "good relationship" with the United States. Informed sources said that Japanese companies scheduled to stop buying Iranian oil by October at the latest, if not obtained exemption from Washington, which is excluded by observers based on statements by US officials.

Last month, Japan's largest bank began steps to halt all transactions related to Iran as it sought to comply with US sanctions.

A document showed that the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Japan's largest bank, will stop all transactions related to Iran. Mizuho Financial Group's banking unit said it would take similar action and stop all transactions related to Iran.

Sources in the financial sector suggested that the move by the largest Japanese banks to force many Japanese companies to stop purchases of Iranian crude oil because these banks manage the bulk of dealings with Iran.

Analysts believe that the arrival of sanctions on oil supplies could lead to the collapse of the Iranian economy, which suffers from stifling crises despite the export of 2.6 million barrels per day, where the riyal has lost more than two thirds of its value since the announcement of the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement in May.

Iran itself is explaining the difficulty of compensating its supplies by other producers and expects the United States to be forced to grant exemptions as in previous sanctions.

But the data show that oil producers can simply compensate for Iranian supplies by suspending compliance with the cut production agreement, with many countries having additional production capacity, particularly Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the UAE and Kuwait.

The bleak economic horizon puts the Iranian street in a dead end and has only one option: to escalate demands for a comprehensive political shift in the management of political and economic files, which could lead to the collapse of the regime.

"We have a feeling that the US attitude toward Iran is regime change, so what can you do in this case?" Says Matthew Eturno, director of the French Business Center in Iran.

Analysts say sanctions this time will be tougher than all previous sanctions because of the development of artificial intelligence devices to track abuses, and companies are increasingly concerned about being exposed to high US fines.

Zarif: We will not accept stopping the export of our oil and allowing the export of oil from other countries

Zarif: We will not accept stopping the export of our oil and allowing the export of oil from other countries

08-08-2018 01:00 PM

The Euphrates -

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US plan to stop Iranian oil exports altogether would not work.

US officials have said in recent weeks that they aim to pressure other countries to stop buying oil from Iran in an effort to force it to halt its nuclear and missile programs and intervene in regional conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

"If Americans want to keep this naive and impossible idea, they must also realize its consequences," Zarif said. They can not think that Iran will not export oil and that others will come out. "

Iranian President Hassan Rowhani hinted last month that Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping corridor, if the United States tried to halt Iranian oil exports.

US President Donald Trump responded by pointing out that Iran could face dire consequences if the United States threatened.

"America has prepared a room for war operations against Iran," Zarif said. "We can not be dragged into a confrontation with America by falling into the trap of this war room and playing on a fighting front," he said.

Last month, Trump presented a meeting with Iranian leaders. Zarif said Oman and Switzerland had mediated talks with the Americans in the past but there were no direct or indirect talks with the United States.
US national security adviser John Bolton said Monday that closing the Strait of Hormuz would be Iran's biggest mistake but believed Iran was launching 'hollow' threats.

He added that if Iran wanted to avoid re-imposition of US sanctions on it should accept the offer of President Donald Trump to negotiate.

The United States has re-imposed sanctions on Iran, which came into force on Tuesday, as the Trump administration sought to increase pressure on Tehran after Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 international nuclear deal.

"They can accept the president's offer to negotiate with them and give up their programs for ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons in full and verifiable effectively, not under the unfair conditions of the Iranian nuclear deal, which were not satisfactory," he said in an interview with Fox News.

"If Iran is really serious, it will sit on the table. We will know if they are serious or not. "

Iran said in its first response to Trump's offer that before the talks, the United States would need to stop new sanctions against Tehran and abandon its withdrawal from a nuclear deal that lifted sanctions against Iran in return for curbing its nuclear activities.

Zarif stressed that the possibility of talks between the United States is not taboo, but these talks will be absurd for Tehran if it does not have a clear agenda.

"We do not want to turn the talks into a taboo, but we will have to produce results and not be a waste of time," he said.

He said that Iran has never closed the door of political negotiations, not even with the United States, but it always carries out a clear agenda in advance and clear results expected. "We must thoroughly explore everything and make a rational decision based on our national interest," he said.

From - Noha Al-Nahhas:

Direct : Chinese President joined the States and international unions that reject the threats of the US president against any entity that would deal with Iran, following the re - application of sanctions against Tehran.

US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to block any dealings with Iran.

This week, the United States began imposing new sanctions against Iran with the US withdrawal from Iran's nuclear deal.

China's trade cooperation with Iran is "open, transparent, responsible and just," a statement from the Chinese government said on Wednesday, stressing that it would not violate any Security Council resolution.

According to press reports announced by the agency "Reuters" today that China has revealed a growing relationship with Iranian energy makers, and that Beijing will defend those commercial interests.

China is the latest to join entities opposed to sanctions against Iran, preceded by Turkey, the European Union and Russia.

The Turkish energy minister has recently announced that his country will continue to buy gas from Iran, noting that Ankara has informed Washington of its rejection of sanctions against Tehran.

The United States is threatening to apply sanctions against any entity that imports oil from Iran starting in November.

The European Union has announced that it will seek compensation for any damage to European companies as a result of its actions in Iran.

The EU foreign affairs chief also called for increased investment in Iran after the announcement of the start of sanctions against Tehran.

For Russia, the government there said it would do anything necessary to secure Iran's 2015 nuclear deal and protect its economic interests with Tehran.

The nuclear deal after the US withdrawal includes China, Russia, France, Germany and Britain alongside Iran.

The Secretary-General of the Dawa Party, head of a coalition of law Nuri al-Maliki , on Wednesday, his rejection of the US sanctions imposed on Iran, considered a "flagrant violation" of international law, while calling on the Iraqi government to not be a party to these sanctions.

"At a time when the peoples of our region and the world are looking to get rid of the consequences of unipolar, the US sanctions on neighboring Iran are a flagrant violation of international law," al-Maliki said in a statement.

"We condemn the American sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran and all unilateral sanctions against the people. We call upon the governments of the region and the world to reject them because the siege, boycott and coercion are illegal and illegal and constitute an act of revenge and arbitrary action outside international law." "Punishing people by imposing a policy of starvation and intimidation is a policy that the big countries have always been against countries that oppose their hostile policies. Does anyone really believe any of this? Corporations do whatever they want... Or in other words, they say one thing and do another and the public laps it up like the sheep they are... For example.....

ExxonMobil did business with Iran, Syria, Sudan under watch of Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson

WASHINGTON — ExxonMobil did business with Iran, Syria and Sudan while the man chosen to be secretary of state by President-elect Donald Trump was running the company, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

These new revelations are bound to come up during Rex Tillerson's confirmation hearing on Wednesday, along with questions about his relationship with Russia, which have drawn intense scrutiny from both Democrats and anti-Russian hawks in the GOP.

The SEC documents were unearthed by the American Bridge super PAC and shared first with USA Today.

"ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson's business ties create dangerous conflicts of interest in some of the most difficult places in the world," the Democratic outside group said in a statement. "Exxon's history of business relationships with state sponsors of terrorism, including Iran, Syria, and Sudan threaten to cloud Tillerson's judgement on American foreign policy."

Infineum, a European subsidiary of ExxonMobil, logged $53.2 million in sales to Iran, $1.1 million in sales to Syria and $600,000 in sales to Sudan from 2003 through 2005.

Tillerson was a senior ExxonMobil executive throughout that period, rising from vice president to president and director of the company in March 2004. He has served as chairman and chief executive since the beginning of 2006.

ExxonMobil told the paper that the transactions were legal because Infineum, a joint venture with Shell that was half-owned by ExxonMobil, was based in Europe and the transactions did not involve any U.S. employees.

BAGHDAD, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) - The first package of US sanctions against Iran entered into force on Tuesday morning.

The first package of sanctions includes banning the exchange of dollars with the Iranian government, banning trade in precious metals, banning the supply or purchase of a list of metals, notably aluminum, iron and steel, and restrictions on the carpet industry.

It also includes sanctions on institutions and governments that deal with Iranian rials or Iranian government bonds.

The new sanctions impose restrictions on Iran for the import or export of technology associated with industrial, civilian and military dual-use technology programs.

The sanctions prohibit the sale of passenger aircraft and spare parts to Iran and the entry of foreign companies into Iran's auto sector.

It also includes a ban on the supply or purchase of a list of metals, mainly aluminum, iron and steel, and restrictions on Iran's auto and carpet sectors.

The second package of sanctions, including the energy sector, is expected to come into force on November 5.

The Iranian riyal has lost half of its value since April under the threat of renewed US sanctions. The sharp devaluation of the currency as well as rising inflation triggered sporadic demonstrations in  Iran  against exploitation and corruption, many of which were anti-government slogans.
