The second article is concerned with the distribution of powers of the presidency of the region to the constitutional institutions, while the third article consists of the first two paragraphs, especially the powers of the President of the region and the second, especially the number of Vice-President of the region, and indicates that "the President of the region will have two deputies determine their powers by the President of the region."

The fourth article also consists of two paragraphs, the first consists of 6 points, namely, the date of candidacy for the presidency of the region, the conditions of candidacy, the closure of the door to run, and the declaration of the names of persons who meet the legal conditions, and the date of appeal of persons whose names did not appear for a candidate, The President shall be by universal suffrage and absolute majority, while the sixth paragraph shall be concerned in the event that no candidate obtains an absolute majority, the election shall be returned even if there is one candidate, he shall be elected by public vote.

As for the second paragraph of Article 4, in this parliamentary session and three days after the issuance of this law, the door to candidacy for the post of President of the Region shall be opened.

In the fifth article of the law there are two paragraphs first emphasizes that the term of the President of the region ends with the end of the mandate of Parliament, the second paragraph emphasizes that the President of the province remains with his powers until the election of another president in accordance with this law.

Article (6) provides that no legal provision or decision contradicts the provisions of this law. Article 7 affirms the relevant authorities to implement the provisions of this law. ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament announced on Sunday the opening for the nomination for Kurdistan Region president.

The parliament convened on 8th May and reactivated Kurdistan Region presidency after a political deal was reached by Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran).

The nomination is open from Sunday 11:00 am till Wednesday 11:00 am, the parliament announced.

It has also introduced a key amendment to the Presidency Law: the next president, for the first time, will be elected by the parliament, not a public vote.

KDP, which won the last parliamentary election with 45 seats, is likely to win the presidency. Senior officials from the party said Nechirvan Barzani, the current prime minister of Kurdistan Region, is the sole candidate of the KDP.

The leading political party will also take the premiership. It has nominated Masrour Barzani as the next prime minister of Kurdistan.

Masrour Barzani, who currently serves as the chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council, is known for his remarkable success in leading the war against the Islamic State (IS) between 2014 and 2017, as well as establishing a safe haven in the middle of a troubled neighborhood.
