Armed militias breach security checkpoints in Sadr City

Militias attack eastern Baghdad

Armed militias, riding unlicensed four-wheel drive vehicles, on Saturday were witnessed attacking checkpoints in eastern Baghdad areas, sources told Baghdad Post.

The militias, wearing military uniform and masks, have attacked the military checkpoints in eastern Baghdad neighborhoods in breach of all security measures.

Traffic officers failed to stop the vehicles which were heading to Sadr City, raising panic among citizens on the identity of such militias and their movements.

Baghdad Operations Command also failed to stop the speeding vehicles or checking their identities.

Informed sources told Baghdad Post that anti-Sadrist militia known as 'Baghdad Brigade' stood behind attacks on Tahrir Square protesters on Saturday.

Baghdad Brigade was established by former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki during his eight year duty in office.

The sources said the move by Baghdad Brigade was meant to revenge from the Sadrist leader in response to the offense against Maliki who was forced to step down in 2014 over corruption charges and his slackening in fighting the ISIS in Mosul.

Thousands of Sadrist followers poured onto the streets on Saturday demanding the dismantle of the electoral commission after several reports on its corrupt activities.

Four protesters were killed and several others were injured when the security forces opened tear gas canisters at the protesters who gathered earlier in the day at Tahrir Square demanding the dismantling of the corrupt electoral commission.

Yota Thanks,  DV,  It should be an all out manhunt on these perpetrators to bring them to justice and found out who their "Masters" are.  Of course we have a hunch that Maliki & Iran militiamen are involved to disrupt all of the positive progress ongoing.   PM Abadi should make a direct call on the "RED PHONE" to President DJT and request Maliki be taken out immediately by any means necessary.

Rockets Fired at Baghdad’s Green Zone

BAGHDAD — Several rockets on Saturday were fired at the Green Zone in Baghdad where is home to foreign diplomatic envoys and top government buildings.

According to media reports, the rockets, one of which was landed in the Green Zone, were fired from Zra’iya neighborhood of Baghdad, but the perpetrators are yet to be identified.

The incident comes after a large-scale demonstration by Sadrist followers who are demanding fundamental reforms in government.

The Saturday protests in front of the Green Zone turned violent which resulted in the death of four demonstrators, one security force, officials confirmed.

At least 320 people were also injured in the confrontations between security forces and the protesters.
