Ukraine Crisis : A-J516 reported Pres Putin called on Russian backed rebels in eastern Ukraine to “stop advancing”.  Urges Ukrainian army to withdraw troops from region.  Moscow says Russia isn’t in a position to agree to a cease-fire, because it’s not part of the conflict.  Ukraine issues vague statement, agrees with Putin on cease-fire steps. 

 

Pres. Obama is in Estonia today meeting with Baltic leaders about regional security.  He was skeptical of cease-fire. He further says it’s too early to tell what it means. NATO summit this week must send unmistakable message of support to Ukraine.  NATO should keep door open to new members.  Proposals being floated within EU for sports-based sanctions to punish Russia.  Immediate targeting of events like 2018 World Cup unlikely at this stage.  Russian financial assets rebound after cease-fire reports.

 

Umbertino agrees with France Pres. Hollande to suspend plans to deliver warship to Russia amid Ukraine tensions.  EU may consider sports based sanctions to punish Russia.

 

Other News : Fed board to adopt new bank liquidity rules today.  Requires banks to hold enough easy-to-sell assets to meet cash needs for 30 days.  Banks face $100B shortfall to meet rules.  Rules not applicable for non-bank financials.  Federal officials say impact on asset classes won’t be that substantial.  Mortgage applications up 0.2% in latest week.  Refi index up 1.4%.  Fixed 30 year mortgage 4.25% lowest since June 2013.

 

Boosterbglee feels bad for Fraudster Bernard Madoff, his son Andrew dies of lymphoma at age 48.  His older brother, Mark committed suicide in 2010.  Definitely money does not buy happiness and peace.  Losing children are hard to pathom as parents.  Our prayers for Madoff family, may God give them peace and cover them with grace that through all this, they will find the truth and the truth will set them free.

 

Diplomats say UN’s latest attempt to probe allegations that Iran worked on atomic arms has stalled.  Iran denies it’s working on nuclear weapons.  UN coordinator outlines $600M plan to combat Ebola outbreak in West Africa.  Total 3,500 cases so far, at least 1,500 deaths.

 

Saint heard Tony West, #3 highest ranking attorney general at DOJ to leave office on September 15th.  He is responsible for mortgage settlements includes BOA, Citigroup, and JPMorgan.

The bull climbed 8 points on the slippery slope today.  Energy and utility lead, techs lag.   Stocks open higher, turn mixed, econ data, auto sales, hopes for Ukraine in focus.  Gold closed at $1,271, silver at $19.23, copper at $3.13.  Crude oil at $95.37

 

Apple sees worst day in 7 months, down 4.5%, closing at $.  Apple admits celeb photo accounts hacked, denies iCloud was breached.  China Mobile begins taking pre-orders for iPhone 6 ahead of device’s official launch.  Pacific Crest recommends investors to start taking profits in Apple, but maintains outperform rating.  Is Apple so big, that it’s dangerous??? Apple can have enough money left over to buy Yahoo after it gobbles up Google and Intel. Apple market capital is $618B.

 

 

Digital Ally Inc (DGLY) lost 31%, closed at $23.04 as profit takers have taken control of the stock today.  ISNS gained 16%, closed at $7.75.

 

Tesla Motors to choose Nevada for battery factory, it’s $6B investment to bring 60,000 jobs.  BP asks US court to remove Gulf spill fund administrator for conflict of interest.  British government is signing $5.8B contract with General Dynamics (GD) for 589 new armored vehicles.  Concur Technology (CNQR) is exploring a sale of the company.  They approached Oracle and SAP.

 

Wiljor is happy as Infinity Pharma (INFI) enters deal with AbbVie to develop blood cancer drug, will get $275M in upfront payment. US Steel (X) and Steel Dynamics (STLD) are Morgan Stanley’s top picks as it raises view of steel industry.  Federal Mogul (FDML) to split its power train and motor parts units into two publicly traded companies. 

 

FBI finds no evidence data breach at JPMorgan, hit other major US banks. Vodafone (VOD) may become takeover target for Japanese telecom firm Softbank.  Google (GOOGL) says top physicist to join team building new quantum information processors… go Google! Littlesam wonders what AbbVie and Google’s Calico investing $500M in research center to cure diseases of aging.

 

Chess is hoping for big payday as Pharmerica (PMC) is upgraded to outperform at Cowen with target price $33.  CVS Caremark (CVS) stops selling tobacco products as of today. Renames itself CVS Health.  Home Depot (HD) is working with law enforcement to probe potential breach of credit and debit card data.

 

IEX plans to seek regulatory approval to become a full fledged stock exchange.  Would be first major new stock exchange since BATS launched in 2010.   Sanofi (SNY) says its dengue fever vaccine reduced cases by 61% in large final clinical trial.  Small cap Tetraphase Pharma (TTPH) sees positive results for experimental urinary tract infection drug. The stock went up 14.76%, closed at $15.01

 

Snowglobe still doesn’t get it why Samsung teams up with Facebook to produce virtual reality headset for gaming and videos.  Galaxy “VR” will work with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 smartphone.

 

From Dinar land : Pres. Obama approves assigning 350 more troops to protect US Embassy in Baghdad.  The additional troops will not serve in a combat role. He further says US is grief stricken over the “horrific act of violence” by militants who beheaded American journalist Steven Sotloff.  He adds Americans will not be intimidated by ISIS beheading of Sotloff.  He vows to build a coalition to “degrade and destroy” ISIS.  US has conducted over 125 airstrikes that proved to be effective in regaining control of Mosul dam and providing humanitarian corridors first to the Yazidis and Shia  Turkmen that were besieged in Amerli.

 

Vietnam 1969 reported the airstrikes led by Sandfly have given morale support to Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces, that also brought Iran backed Shiite militias in addition to other tribes who are turning against ISIL. There are close to 1000 American advisers helping the Iraqi and Peshmerga forces.

 

Gymrat76541 heard US stated F-16 jetfighters will be delivered as soon as security around Balad airbase is restored.  US is training Iraqi pilots to fly F-16 jetfighters and Apache attack helicopters in a location near Washington.  Parliament held a special session today to address the fate of Iraqi security forces either slaughtered or captured by ISIL at Speicher military base. 

 

Human rights group says ISIS carried out mass killing of hundreds of captured Iraqi soldiers.  ISIS killed up to 770 men captured at military base north of Baghdad.

 

Politicians say the formation of a new government will take place very soon as blocs and coalitions are submitting names of their candidates to hold position in the government.  The PM designate Abadi has been working around the clock to form an inclusive government that will represent all Iraqis fairly.  Despite resistance from some blocs, the new government will be formed which will include Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds holding key posts necessary to unite the country.

 

From rumor land : Millionday says huge rush on the formation of new government before the NATO’s meeting.  She adds HCL is done.  Frank26 says GOI should be seated this month, then budget will be opened.  The rate will come out quickly after the GOI seated, otherwise everything crumbles.  Nova thinks the rate and new GOI should be revealed in close proximity to one another. LJ says Turki is never going to remain CBI governor with the new GOI.  Poppy3 says his info from Baghdad said the bankers practice exchanging at $3.25 and $3.55.  Mt. Goat says the announcement is still on target for Thursday.  Randy Koonce says you can exchange anywhere as long as you have your currency and not to let it out of your sight and go to any major banks to cash in.
