dontlop
.. the govt needs those dinars to make payrolls and to pay contracts .. the only way for the govt to make payroll in dinars is to sell dollars .. or just keep printing up dinars and holding the dollars in their reserves .. that would make the m2 grow even more in the mean time the local currency in dollars is growing .. they had a 70 billion in trade surplus in 2011 and 2012 over 155 billion in trade surpluses in the last 7 years those dollars are somewhere
gainesm
The way the auction list reads they aren't buying Dinar - they're selling Dinar, for USD. That means more USD in their coffers, and more Dinar on the streets - not more USD on the streets and less Dinar in their coffers. Truthfully, if they were going to redenominate I'd think they'd first pull as much Dinar off the street as they could to make exchanging it for the new currency a lot easier. I'm not entirely sure how putting more Dinar on the streets stabilizes the official exchange rate.
sandstorm
The 1166 , tells us its the selling price. the price is always from the participants( banks) view. if a bank wants to buy a dollar...it will cost them 1166. If a bank wants to sell its dollar to the cbi....they get 1164 If a bank wants to buy usd.....thusly it is selling dinar...1166 is the sell price 1164 is buy...from the cbi Edited April 8, 2013 by sandstorm
gainesm
Wait, you mean all this time I've been understanding the auctions the wrong way?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, so then the CBI lists its auctions to mean that they are buying USD for IQD and not the other way around... that the "price" of a single USD is 1166 IQD? If so, then they ARE taking IQD off the streets in massive amounts and releasing USD in its stead. That certainly bodes well.

pontiyak
I am also of the opinion that removing as much Iraqi Dinars from circulation is in the GOI & CBI's best interest. At least until they complete the first initial RV. It doesn't matter how you slice it...Iraq will have to come up with a TON of money if they RV at 1:1 (at par), and making all those Iraqi family's who might have a million Dinars under the mattress, rich, is not in the countries best interest either. ( most of them might flee the country with their new found riches). I believe the will try to remove as much Dinar from within the country as possible.... Then do a modest RV, to a rate which would encourage Iraqi's to turn in all their dollars for the new stronger Dinar. It avoids a cash windfall turmoil within Iraq, yet those outside the country profit. IMHO The best things in life RV yak

RVPleaseToday
"They cannot let the people of Iraq know they are planning an RV, otherwise all the people will start hoarding the Dinar..." Why would they do that? What would be the advantage to people in Iraq to hoard dinar? I thought the idea of an RV was to give value to the dinar so the people would want to use them instead of dollars? You seem to say that the opposite would happen. That Iraqi's would rush in to exchange their dinar for dollars. But how would that help them? Besides, the GOI would severely limit the amount of dinar Iraqi's could exchange for dollars. Within Iraq, a dinar is a dinar. The dinar that exist within Iraq will cost the CBI nothing to RV. It's not an exchange within Iraq. The only ones who benefit from a large RV are those of us outside of Iraq who bought dinar with dollars for little of nothing.

sandstorm
Sorry yota....your wrong. obviously you havent figured out where the dollars are coming from Yota...would you explain your version ..or where im wrong with the auctions. you quoting some article...that you dont even understand...shows nothing. Lack of liquidity. yota...the localbanks are not keeping abunch of dinar on hand...1, because they use that dinar to buy more dollars, the higher the demand for usd.......the moredinar that has to be given out to obtain the usd. You say im wrong.....yet cant prove anything. explain..explain explain. thanks yota .. do ya think they would be recieving alot of these petro dollars in digital currency .. and since the majority of people now use cash .. that the paper part of the currency could be drying up .. not so much as the actual dinars and dollars .. i guess they put in orders for the paper dollars ,,, but i havent heard of any new dinar notes being printed . i see the m2 just keeps growing it looks to be 77 trillion now , ,, i wonder what their plan is since they just keep growing the m2 . but its not because of inflation so much .. its because of trade surplusses .. and converting dollars into dinars .. or are they just written up as dinars n the m2 in dollar values .. could the m2 be mostly written up and displayed in dinars ,, but in reality .. they are sitting on dollars instead of dinars .. only written up that way since its their countrys currency .. i wouldnt think they would write up their m2 money supply .. 77 trillion dinars ..it doesnt say 55 billion dollars .. 21 billion euros .. 9 trillion dinars . ????????? it just says 77 trillion dinars m2 . i think its all conmverted into dinar values for book keeping purposes . i do not think thers 77 trillion dinars .. just 77trillion dinars worth of wealth in the m2 i hear the new generation of smart cards come out wednesday .,.,, that should cure alot of demand for dinars ,, as long as the merchants are set up with the swipe machines .. at the grocery stores and such. they will still uses cash .. some wont convert .. but eventually those merchants who dont convert .. will see they arent getting as much business as those who do .. so its just a matter of time .. and once everyone sees the govt employees using their cards without a hitch .. they will want the convience too .. they seem to all be talking about hard currency . not currency .. like digital amounts . . we will see what happends with this new credit card system.. and i hear its gong to be good for global transactions . reducing demand for hard currency .. ..much easier to control that way .. i know i dont have the majority of my money in cash at home .. its in a bank digitally waiting for me to do as i please. more liquidity for the banks if its not all over the streets like it is dontlop it is alldinar 72 trillion dinar. not a combo . You blab things that arent true. sorry..keep diggin...you may get thereYota...i explained theauction .do i need to explain those articles too?
