Does it Really Matter Who Wins?

Here's some food for thought for everyone. Although I'm in the Romney camp with both feet, and feel like I'm in the group that is yelling "Don't You Know What is At Stake?", this article gave me pause for thought. Please read - and no bashing from either side.

Folks,

Forgive my intrusion into your life on a weekend, but after mulling it over, I wanted to go on and send this to you. Consider it, if nothing else, a weekend devotional.

I believe Mitt Romney will win on election day. I’m somewhat stunned to be writing that as I never really thought he could win until about the moment Clint Eastwood trotted out on stage at the Republican National Convention with that empty chair. Even now I waver by the hour, but if forced to predict, I think Romney wins Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Wisconsin, and even Ohio. I put the Electoral College at 285 to 253. Ask me tomorrow, though, and I could decide otherwise. I cast my absentee ballot last week and voted for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

I write the rest of this now because if Romney loses, it will be viewed as “Erickson is trying to talk them off the ledge” and if Romney wins it will be viewed as “Erickson is rubbing salt in wounds.” Neither is true, which is why this must come before the election and not after.

I get the enormity of what is at stake in the election. I get it. I really do. I get the passion. I get the excitement. But, and maybe I’m just too worn out, I don’t get the anger, worry, and dread on either side. I have friends upset with me for not getting it and for not sharing it. “Don’t you know what is at stake?” they demand.

Don’t you know what is not at stake?

People on the left are convinced if Mitt Romney wins blacks will be put in chains out in cotton fields and uteruses will be locked up.

People on the right are convinced if Barack Obama wins the stars and stripes will come down, the red banner of communism will go up, and this American experiment will be promptly concluded.

My world view is pretty simple. I think this world is destined to go to hell in a hand basket by design. I think things are supposed to go to pot. So if Barack Obama wins, I won’t be upset. If Mitt Romney wins, I won’t be running through the streets cheering. I think, either way, it is all part of the design. The world is going down hill. Barack Obama re-elected just gets us down the slippery slope faster in my view. For others, it is Mitt Romney who does.

God is sovereign and He is in charge and He will return. That is my hope and my ever present expectation.

We often get so wrapped up in the view of things at ground level, we forget to look at the world from 50,000 feet. In the historic, grand scheme of things, this too will end.

Don’t confuse me with a fatalist and don’t confuse me with someone who does not really care about the future of our nation. I think we are the last best hope of mankind on this planet. But my destiny is not tied to this planet. While I am here, however, I have convictions that are greater than either candidate and either party and I fight more for a cause than a candidate. I expect, regardless of who is in the White House, I’ll find myself at odds with them, though more so with Obama than Romney.

When I wake up on Wednesday morning, I’m still going to have my wife. I’m still going to have my kids. I’m still going to have my family. And I’m still going to have my God. So will you.

Some of you, on both sides, are convinced that the end of the world is nigh. It is. But not quite yet and no one really knows when.

What I do know for sure is that I’m headed home to eternity and this world is temporary. So while I like politics and have my side and want it to win, I’m not going to be partying in the street if my side does win and I’m not going to think the end of the world is upon us if my side loses.

You should not either.

Too many of my friends have gotten so focused on the outcome and are so convinced the country as they know it is over if the other side wins that they are joyless to be around right now. They are full of dread and worry and fear. They’ve lost their sense of humor. They cannot laugh at themselves, their side, or much of anything. They are mad at others, myself included, for not being as worked up as they are. The frenzy has become a purity test, not the conviction.

God is sovereign. And whether you are for Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, set your sights on God, not November 6th, and be happy. In four years, we really will do this all over again whether right now you think so or not. There is no permanence except in Heaven.

These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

Yes it absolutely DOES matter who wins and anybody subscribing to the 'Obamaney' they're one and the same crap is just ignorant.... (I saw your disclaimer at the top Paperboy, I'm not talking about you)

It's the ignorant that can't see there's no difference.

This country has been going down the crapper for years... all caused by the demopublicans.

And the simple minded keep sending them back.

You like liberty? You should be voting for Johnson.

I get your point Paperboy, but there a lot of us small business owners who have a lot at stake. We have already did the numbers, and know that if the current administration is allowed to be back in power for the next four years, we will have to close our doors. I, for one have never been this involved in an election. I have put feet on my prayers, and a day does not go by that I do not pray for our nation and the outcome of this election. When there is so much to lose, yes we are pretty passionate. We employ about 30 people, including many family and good friends that have stuck by us for years. I do not want to let them down, but the numbers don't lie. There is simply no way we can make it. I in no way think Mitt is the perfect solution to everything, but I appreciate his values, and business knowledge. If he loses, I know that there will be 32 people in Ohio looking for new jobs by the first of the year. That is something I think is very sad. So yes, I have probably not been the most happy person lately. Knowing that you may have to put those you love and care about on the unemployment line is a pretty sobering thought. Four more years of what we have just went through is like giving us a death sentence.

Oh yes oh yes oh yes it matters. We are never going to have a perfect president (no RP fans not even him). But there is not perfect and then there is evil and dangerous. Never has a President so disrespected this country and it's citizens. If he is turned loose without the threat of re election there will be no stopping him and his Chicago thugs from taking this country to destruction. He and his backers like George Soros are determined to turn us into a socialized country. That's not what I want for my children and grand children. Every single vote counts!

Jeepguy Obama care needs to be replaced with something that will not be more destructive then what we have now. Obama care was pushed through behind locked doors so the Republicans and the people could not know what was in it. I think if Romney gets in he will be able to stop the chaos that's coming an hopefully put something in place that we the people can live with so it won't get kicked out. our two party system was ment to be a check and balance system. there will always be a difference of ideas between the Dems and Republicans. But this president has taken divisiveness to a new level. He always tries to make it look like the Republicans won't reach across but if you go back and check you'll see it was his narcissistic and self righteous attitude that kept them from having civilized conversations.

I am very saddened by many responses on this thread. I'm chalking it up to maybe most who have commented maybe did not read the entire article.

But let's get some perspective here, folks. Is this an extremely important election that will likely chart the course for this country for at least the next decade? The answer is a resounding yes. Even the author of this peace said as much.

But will this country or the earth, for that matter, last forever? The answer is No.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up." 2 Peter 3:10

And that's all the author is trying to say here. Yes these elections are important and, as the author stated, please vote for Mitt Romney.

But if Romney loses is all hope lost for humanity? No.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." Matt. 24:35

Our hope does not lay in the future of the earth. Our hope lies in a Redeemer returning to this earth to set things right again.

"Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them [and be] their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Rev. 21:1-4

Again, please vote, it is very important. But please don't lose perspective.

WW.

Paperboy, I personally find this a wonderful and thought provoking article. While I understand that it is very important for us to vote in the right man for our countries relief, morals and values. I believe, E. Erickson was asking us to look deep within ourselves and seach for where our hope really lies..

On Wednesday morning, if your man has lost this election, will all your hopes, dreams and faith be lost? Are your hopes, dreams and faith dependant upon a mere man or have you placed your hopes, dreams and faith on the only One that can see you thru? If we have put all our faith and hope in this election...and believe that a human being can pull us out of the pit of hell..we are indeed hopeless reguardless of who the President is.

This is how I read his article. A great reminder to check our hearts. Thankyou for sharing. btw, it does matter to me who wins. I have stood strong for Mitt from day one

You have to be nuts if you believe this. Do you really mean to say that shutting the Libertarian Party, Freedom Party, Constitutional Party, and Green Party candidates out of the debates is a "check and balance system?" laugh.gif

WoW Nothing worse then listening to a grown man cry. By all your post Sans . Sounds like maybe you need to find a new country to live in. Its going to be a very long time before this country becomes a 3 party nation. Perhaps israel maybe hahahaha

THIS IS THEE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN OUR LIFETIME. If it is more of the same, businesses will go offshore or close up shop. We will be over $20,000,000,000,000. in debt, leaving all of this debt for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to pay off for 10 years of spending on a credit card. For just 10 years of spending, did it really help the economy. Anyone that has had a credit card, knows you cannot spend your way to prosperity. Was it worth it? Vote for a turn around specialists to turn this economy around. Vote for Mitt Romney.

.

Here's the thing that keeps me going.

God did not just teleport the Jews from Egypt. They spent 40 years being taught to trust the Lord, going through trials and tribulations, wandering through the desert.

My point is, when we are 'delivered" from an evil or a bad, we are given the tools to trust God, and work our way through it.

Nothing God does is without a lesson.

Jesus left no doubt we are instructed to see the truth in all things, and gave us His Holy Spirit to witness to our spirit what is truth.

I see the above article as half wrong. We CAN turn this around. it will ONLY happen with God's blessing and our own hard work.

If it is turned around, we will have once again learned some VERY important life lessons. These are things the original colonists learned, and knew, but was intentionally removed from the classroom, and replaced with evil.

I am not willing to face God on my judgement day and tell him I refused to do what I know in my heart to be true because it was easier to just let everything go to hell and then take whatever reward I earned in heaven.

Almost every "church" in the US is scared to preach the truth, and instead they put on a Sunday show aimed at generating the highest income through guilt offerings.

I do agree that we need to put this in perspective, pray earnestly, then get off our asses and get it done.

No one knows what the end time will be. The classic rapture picture of people rising from graves, cars suddenly becoming driver-less and such may not be what happens at all.

After all, Revelations means learning, maybe we finally learn how to be real Christians, not a bunch of spineless jellyfish quivering in fear of losing a stinking big screen TV, unable to stand up for any truth, much less stand in witness for Jesus.

If God has revealed this to you, then be at peace. Personally, I haven't lived my life hiding in the shadows.

I will proclaim Jesus is Lord from the mountaintops, and in so doing will face any and all to my death.

I came into this world kicking and screaming and I'll go out that way too.

I get your point Paperboy, but there a lot of us small business owners who have a lot at stake. I'm there brother.

We are simply waiting for the gallows, because there is no doubt our world will be destroyed.

The problem is so many people are so far removed from reality as they are insulated by a big company or working for the government.

They can't imagine life without their cushy office, paid vacation, matching retirement, and they believe THEIR company is SO powerful it will somehow resist obama care just because the company understands how vitally important the employees are to them. They won't comprehend the reality until the company locks out all employees and starts in some third world country, but by then it will be too late, and they will become just another burden on an already overstressed system.

Then there's the government employees that actually believe they will have a job for life.

They inwardly laugh at people that claim the government does not create jobs.

Just look at the one THEY have.

They can't comprehend they government can only give to one what they take from another.

They will never admit anything like post WWII Germany could ever happen here.

until it is once again too late.

But by then Monsanto will have contaminated every crop grown in America with GM strain. Pesticides will have finished killing off the honey bees that are so vital to agriculture. And the EPA will have allowed their mining and oil conglomerates to poison most of the drinking water,

Who's crying, Dogbreath? Did you miss my emoticon? laugh.gif Call it sad commentary. I don't necessarily endorse any of the other party's candidates. I just got finished saying I will not vote in these sham "elections." If you're really this comfortable with having your "choices" made for you, you know, it won't be long until you will have completely lost your beloved country. Perhaps then we'll see a grown man cry.

hahahaha Man you are so easy emot-LMAO.gif Dogbreath really? emot-LMAO.gif Your location says it all " A world of pure imagination"

I appreciate those of you that took the time to read the entire article, and let it sink in. There is a bigger picture out there that we, as Christians, need not overlook. Yes, this is the most important election of our lifetime, no doubt. And I'm praying for Romney to win with all my heart. However, I agree with the author of this article, that regardless of who wins, I will wake up the next morning knowing that my God is in control of my life and this country. God is indeed sovereign. I too will be in a much worse place if Obama wins, and that's a sad situation for our country to be in.

However, our faith must be in our Lord and we must lean on His wisdom, not our own. And that's what I choose to do on Wednesday morning, or a week later or however long it takes for the votes to be counted & the election decided.

This post wasn't meant to be controversial - I just thought maybe, for once, the arguing, name calling & bashing could subside and everyone look deep, past the varied personalities that are so woven into this country's politics. Not sure I succeeded with that goal. But thanks to everyone that took part.

i do know leadership is the most important quality our leaders should have .. obama has none

mitt romney knows why banks arent loaning money .. he will eliminate parts of dodd frank bill and get money flowing again....banks wont loan money for 1 or 2 percent.. so what do they do .. they loan it out to credit card companys .. then they charge 6 thru 14 percent to everyone else .. ever wonder why you get so many credit card apps in the mail .. but cant get a loan at a bank .. .. they have access to any amount of money you want to charge up .... when interest rates go up to where banks ccan make money without a middle man .. our economy will grow .. romney not be dealing with timothy gietner .. or bernanke.. romney will have our economy booming with in 12 months.. it matters ,, look at obamas leadership skills in the middle east and afganistan ..its a nightmare

There is no future for our grand kids.

Thats not being a pessimist,just a realist.

The elites will have their New World Order soon no matter whom you vote for.And the Satanic dictator will lead this world to destruction in less than 7yrs.

Hearing people delusionally talk like there are decades and generations left frankly annoys me.Count yourself lucky if you get another 3-5 yrs.And that is being extremely liberal

No.. just no.

Reagan worked for the same NWO people that Obama does.Back during the days of Reagan the Globalists plan was not yet that developed,so they kept a low proifle.Still the same crooked things you are seeing in Washington now were going on in those days. They had not yet raped the global economy yet therefor of course the Reagan years were better During the later years of Bush jr and Obama's presidency was were they finally became sloppy and blatantly facist. This is because they are nearing the endgame and don't think we can stop them regardless of what we know. And in truth they are right..biblical prophecy will be fulfilled.People are openly trying to tell people about the NWO,yet these patriots are just being laughed at.The elites know that even if confronted with the truth the majority will not believe because of their years of brainwashing by the media and government.

Hey kiddies..tomorrow we're going with Mr Rogers to the magical land of make believe where all the puppets get to cast imaginary votes to get rid of King Friday.

My word...is that a Rothchilds hand stuck up King Fridays posterior and controlling his every action? Lulz....
