yota691
DAESH AREAS OF INFLUENCE – MAY 2017 UPDATE June 21, 2017 Between March 1st and May 31st, Daesh lost further territory in Iraq, as well as in Syria. The group have now lost 70% of the territory they controlled in Iraq in August 2014, and 51% in Syria, as they are continually defeated on the battlefield. Key Daesh battlefield losses in the period March 1st – May 31st were to Iraqi forces in the Ninawa Governorate, the majority of which were in Western Mosul, and in the region near the Iraq-Syria border. In Syria, Daesh lost additional territory in Ar Raqqa, the Damascus countryside, Dayr-az-Zawr, Halab and Homs provinces. The majority of these loses were in Ar Raqqa and Dayr az Zawr, as the Syrian Democratic Forces and Syrian Arab Coalition isolated Raqqa city. The map (below) depicts ISIS areas of influence, including its net territorial losses—39,500 to 40,500 square kilometers, or about 70 percent of the territory it had dominated in Iraq and 22,500 to 23,500 square kilometers, or about 51 percent of the territory it dominated in Syria—since August 2014. Daesh probably has a presence and freedom of movement in much of the unpopulated areas depicted on the map, but we cannot determine its level of influence in these areas. Our estimates are subject to change because of the dynamic nature of the conflict.

tigergorzow
Exclusive: Map reveals latest developments in Mosul battle June 23 2017 05:14 PM Exclusive: Map reveals latest developments in Mosul battle An updated version of Mosul's map showing the latest developments in the battle to oust ISIS from occupied districts in the city's right bank has been obtained by The Baghdad Post on Friday. The areas in green illustrate the completely regained ones, areas in orange show the areas currently witnessing clashes while the areas in white are still controlled by ISIS terrorist group. The map has been released by Nineveh Media Center on its official Facebook page. Earlier, Federal Police Forces have rescued more than 200 civilians who have been trapped inside booby-trapped houses in the Old City. Also, Iraqi F-16 jets destroyed an ISIS booby-trapping lab and explosive devices lab in Tal Afar in west Mosul upon receiving information from 'We Are Coming, Nineveh' intelligence cell. On February 19th, the Iraqi army, backed by the US-led international coalition and Iran-allied IMIS militias, launched an offensive to recapture the right bank of Mosul. Since the start of the battle to retake Mosul, an estimated 862,000 people have been displaced. Around 195,000 have since returned, mainly to the city's east. The militants have since lost most of the territory they once controlled in the face of US-backed offensives in Iraq and in Syria, where a Kurdish-Arab alliance is advancing on the group's last Syrian stronghold Raqa. It is not clear how many ISIS members remain in Mosul, where many foreign fighters have joined local militants since the city was taken. http://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/story/13470/Exclusive-Map-reveals-latest-developments-in-Mosul-battle

tigergorzow
Revealed: US troops deployed in Anbar's Rutbah June 23 2017 02:41 PM US troops in Iraq US troops have been deployed at al-Kazif valley at al-Rutbah town in Anbar governorate, an official from al-Jazzera Operations Command said on Friday. The troops have scouted the area without disclosing the reason behind their mission in the area, the source added. US troops accompanied by helicopters and drones traveled from Ain Assad base to Kazif valley, according to the source. Special tribal forces also accompanied the US patrols as the local government was not briefed with the mission's goals. Kazif valley used heavily by ISIS terrorists as a route between al-Qa'im and Anah towns. It is considered to be a safe passage for the group to Syrian city of Raqqa. tigergorzow
Over 200 civilians, trapped by ISIS, rescued in western Mosul June 23 2017 03:12 PM Iraqi civilians Federal Police Forces have rescued more than 200 civilians who have been trapped inside booby-trapped houses in the Old City, located in Mosul's western side, a military source said on Friday. In a press statement, Captain Jabbar Hassan, from the Iraqi Army, said that the rescue operation was based on intelligence that there are civilians held hostage by ISIS terrorists in five booby-trapped houses in Bab al-Baid district in the Old City. Police special forces have stormed the street where the booby-trapped houses are located amid heavy fighting with ISIS terrorists, Hassan noted. He also stated that the forces rescued the trapped people after the terrorist group used them as human shields. The Old City is considered security forces' key challenge in its attempt to recapture the city. This is due to the city's narrow and branching alleys, making it hard to enter by the military vehicles. The city is also densely populated.Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after eight months of battles.
