Allawi does not expect new government to last

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 11:35 GMT

Head of Al Iraqiya List Iyad Allawi does not expect a coherent and stable Iraqi government, Allawi said in an interview with Reuters from London

"The formula for power sharing has been distorted and the issue of devolution has been distorted so I am not sure whether a coherent government can be formed," he told Reuters on Tuesday.

"Still we have some time to discuss issues and to see if this will happen or not," he added. When asked if the government could last long, he said: "No".

Allawi affirmed that he would not join a new cabinet. "I am not going to be part, in any case, of the council of ministers. It is not currently suggested or offered or the Iraqiya list want me to be a member".

A Iraqiya leader said he had not decided whether to accept the new position of head of the national policy council offered to him.

Allawi on the other hand downplayed the walk-out from parliament by members of his bloc last week, saying the disagreements behind it had been settled. He said he would not return to Baghdad for the opening of parliament on Nov. 2 as he was in London for his daughter's wedding, he noted.

Talabani says Iraqiya to join government

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 11:23 GMT

During his participation in the Socialist International meeting in Paris, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani stated that the eight-month record delay to form the government is not something to be proud of.

Due to lack of a total majority in Iraqi Parliamentary elections results, the different political parties’ leaders had to establish alliances through which they agreed to form the government.

An Iraqi government supported by Al Iraqiya bloc will be set up but it is unclear whether its leader Iyad Allawi will be part of the new coalition administration, President Jalal Talabani said on Tuesday.

"We have nominated him to be chief of the national policy council ... It's a very important position, but I don't know about him joining," Talabani said.

Allawi is in London now, right? And yesterday was Tuesday November 16th and that's when this article came out, right? So is Allawi staying in London until Nov. 2 of 2011 or do they mean November 20, 21, 22, 23, 2***?????

To me this is the most telling quote. It seems to me that Allawi is one of the only people now saying there is no agreement and this wont work out. I think his party has moved on without him and that has pissed him off to the point where hes saying this wont work out when in reality they dont need him just his party. At least this is what Im hoping.

We have been thinking for months that M was the problem with the forming of the government, but now it's starting to become clear that A was the problem all along. It's his way or no way, it doesn't seem like he is willing to bend at all to get this done. JMO

"Smoke and Mirrors"

He's been doing this all along. It's starting to look ridiculous and just BS more and more. It's like the game good cop, bad cop. He's playing a role that's been decided by all of them. :P:)

That's how I feel when I read these anymore. Remember, watch what they do not what they say.

I agree. If A cared about Iraq he would participate to the fullest. If he wants to be PM then he needs to lead in a secondary position until the opportunity to take the PM job comes up again. Seems like A is eating some sour grapes. He needs to stop acting like an A-Hole and do what's best for Iraq.
