Baghdad today - Baghdad

The Central Bank of Iraq's total sales of hard currency to dollars during the past week amounted to about one billion dollars.

Last week, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Ammar Khalaf, announced the increase in foreign exchange reserves to 113 billion dollars, benefiting from the improvement in the oil price, which constitutes 96% of the gross national product.

And the Central Bank sold during that week, for the four days in which the auction opened, 889 million 782 thousand and 342 dollars, at a daily rate of 222 million 445 thousand and 585 dollars, up by 0.26 percent from what was recorded in the previous week, whose daily selling rates amounted to 221 million 858 thousand and 429 dollars.

The highest sales of the dollar during the past week were on Thursday, when sales amounted to 232 million and 286 thousand and 896 dollars, while the lowest sales were on Sunday, when sales amounted to 217 million and 717 thousand and 136 dollars.

Likewise, sales of foreign remittances during the same week amounted to 773,632,342 dollars, an increase of 85 percent compared to cash sales, which amounted to 116,150,000 dollars.

Sales went in the form of cash and remittances abroad to finance foreign trade, while the selling price of documentary credits and international settlements for electronic cards amounted to 1,305 dinars per dollar, while the selling price of remittances abroad and the cash sale price amounted to 1,310 dinars per dollar.

The government of Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, which was formed about 9 months ago, seeks to introduce other sectors besides oil to maximize resources, but observers and specialists confirm that the government has burdened the general budget with hundreds of thousands of new jobs that made the country dependent on oil prices, and paid billions of dollars to the salaries of employees, retirees and those covered by the Social Welfare Law.

YES! I was thinking tonight about all of our journey and it suddenly hit me, (please don’t tar & feather me with this thought 🙄) WHY would the powers that be, want the Dinar to revalue? There are so many Iraqis getting filthy rich with the situation now and could give a flip what the “man on the street” is suffering. The corruption is horrific but the corrupters are getting along just fine. Why the hurry in their eyes to change anything??

I agree. I'm thinking the only hope for Iraq, and possibly us,  is Sudani. If He's slick enough to turn the table and satisfy, or do in the corrupt, in the process. Either that or if the powers that be benefit from an RV. In which case they wouldn't want to see the "common folk" prosper. So We better have a plan to avoid the bail ins / stealing, etc.

Then there's 45.....🙂
