Al-Maliki is reassured about the US military movements and their target is likely

Baghdad - people

The former prime minister and one of the most prominent leaders of the ruling "coordinating framework", Nuri al-Maliki, said that he "does not fear any American step" inside Iraq, and that he is "sure" that the recent military moves aim to close the borders with Syria, revealing that Washington has repeatedly asked him to do so. In 2011, he refused, "in order to save Syria and prevent the embargo on it," as he put it.

Al-Maliki added, in a televised interview with colleague "Hisham Ali", followed by "NAS", (August 31, 2023), that "the file of the movement of foreign forces, whether in Iraq or in neighboring countries, represents a great concern, fearing the return of that atmosphere that was hanging over the region, Where the confrontations and the settling of scores,” continuing, “The certain thing is the attempt of these forces to close the borders between Iraq and Syria. As for the reason for this closure, it is not clear, but if we link it to the movements that took place in southern Syria, specifically Daraa and As-Suwayda, then perhaps it can be said that something is intended to be implemented in Syria.” ".

Al-Maliki stated, "In the past, when Syria was surrounded by land, sea, and air, it had no outlet other than Iraq, and from this outlet the Syrian government was able to resist and remain present, and therefore this closure means completing the siege on Syria, and moving the internal situation in the south, and this may be It aims to overthrow or change the regime there."
