ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Sunday affirmed the government's intention to boost the country's largely disregarded private sector with Iraqis routinely seeking employment in the saturated public sector instead.

"The opportunity will be available and supported by the government to enter into a constructive partnership with the national private sector," Sudani said, adding that the Iraqi government intends to end "wrong practices" that plague the sector's progress.

The development of Iraq's private sector has been labeled by Sudani as one of his key missions since taking office, with many of Iraq's talents opting for an easy career path in government service.

The state is by far the biggest employer in Iraq, a country with a population of 42 million people of which four out of 10 young people are unemployed.

Sudani also affirmed that Iraq's economic situation cannot be corrected unless the private sector plays an essential role in its recovery.

A meeting between Sudani and Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on Saturday also called on companies active in the private sector to assist the boosting of the nation's economy.

The aforementioned meeting emphasized the need to "create an appropriate environment for investment that would encourage the private sector to play its role in supporting the national economy and creating job opportunities to employ the energetic youth," according to a statement by the Iraqi presidency.

I am surprised Mahdi showing his face here. Wasn't he force out leaving with taking making leaving with no money left as did Maliki plus didn't he responsible of having a lot of demestrators killed and wounded causing him to be forced out. I guess the new PM Sudani he close friends of Mahdi as he is with Maliki.
