Israel is in shock... revealing the occupation’s losses in the Al-Aqsa flood

{International: Al-Furat News} Magen David Adom (the Israeli ambulance service) reported today, Saturday, that at least 22 people have been killed since the start of the surprise attack carried out by the Palestinian Hamas movement since dawn.

A spokesman for Magen David Adom said that more than 70 people were seriously injured, according to the Times of Israel, which reported that the death toll was likely to rise.

The head of the Regional Council for the Israeli border areas in the northeastern Gaza Strip was killed during an exchange of fire with gunmen who came from the Palestinian territories, according to what the council announced.

The Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council said in a statement: "The head of the Regional Council, Ofir Lipstein, was killed during an exchange of gunfire."

The Hamas movement, which controls the Gaza Strip, carried out the largest attack on Israel in years on Saturday, which included gunmen crossing the border fence and launching thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip.

As sirens sounded in southern and central Israel and the city of Jerusalem, Israel said that it was living in a “state of war,” at a time when the Israeli army announced the launch of Operation “Iron Swords” in response to the Palestinian attack.

The Israeli army confirmed that its forces were fighting “on the ground” against Palestinian militants in areas surrounding the Gaza Strip, after they infiltrated by “parachutes” by sea and land, confirming that there had been deaths.

Army spokesman Richard Hecht said during a press briefing: “It was a dual ground operation carried out by paratroops across the sea and land.”

On the other hand, the Palestinian Authority’s news agency (Wafa) reported that 5 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip, by Israeli forces’ fire.

Former head of the Mossad: The Palestinians' attack is qualitative, and we did not expect all these effective missiles

upload_1696753225_1122272712.jpg

Al-Ghad Press / Baghdad

Ephraim Halevy, the former head of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, said in a press statement that the war that broke out on Saturday morning was a complete surprise.

He stressed in an interview with CNN that the Israeli side had not received any intelligence warning before the outbreak of fighting.

He pointed out that "the number of rockets fired by Hamas members in less than 24 hours exceeded 3,000 rockets. This is beyond imagination from our point of view. We did not know that they had this amount of rockets, and we certainly did not expect that they would be as effective as they are today."

Halevy continued to say that this is a “unique attack” and “the first time” that Gaza has been able to “penetrate deep into Israel and control villages.”

The former Israeli official expressed his belief that the missiles were manufactured in the Gaza Strip after being “smuggled by sea,” and that Hamas “most likely” was able to conduct “trial training” without allowing Israeli forces to discover its plans.

The Hamas movement announced the start of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” and the launching of approximately 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the Israeli interior in the first half hour of the operation.

The battle witnessed qualitative operations by the Palestinians, as they stormed a number of the settlements of the outskirts and engaged in street warfare with the Israeli forces. They killed and wounded a number of them, captured a number of settlers, and took control of Israeli vehicles.

Hamas Fighters

October 7, 2023

At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 7,  Hamas, the Iran-backed terror group controlling Gaza, launched an unprovoked and vicious surprise attack on Israel. Using rockets, paragliders, boats, motorcycles and other vehicles, and whatever other means they could, terrorists infiltrated Israel with one goal—to murder and kidnap Israelis.

Over 600 Israelis have been killed and more than 1,500 are critically wounded. There are multiple reports of hostages being taken. More than 3,000 rockets have been fired at Israeli towns and cities. Israeli families are huddled in bomb shelters.

Here is what you need to know about Hamas and its attack on Israel.

What is happening?

The world awoke on Saturday to horrific images of brutal violence from Hamas terrorists: indiscriminate shooting of Israeli civilians, videos of alleged kidnappings, and celebrations of death and destruction.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel “is at war.”

“Citizens of Israel, we are at war. Not an operation, not a round [of fighting,] at war! This morning Hamas initiated a murderous surprise attack against the state of Israel and its citizens,” Netanyahu said.

Shortly after Israel Defense Forces declared “Operation Swords of Iron.” Dozens of Israeli fighter jets and other aircraft have targeted Hamas military facilities and four operation headquarters of Hamas, the IDF said.

"We have combat management over the Gaza Division, including support from combat helicopters; we have control there," the IDF added. "We are conducting blockades with the Israel Police in all regions. There are airstrikes on several targets, such as tunnels, launchers, and fighter jets striking the border. Hundreds of such strikes have been carried out - resulting in many casualties, including numerous terrorists.

In addition to the rocket attacks on Israel, dozens of terrorists infiltrated several Gaza-Israel border points, and attempted to infiltrate Israel along the Mediterranean coast.

"We are conducting combat operations in 22 locations," the IDF said. " There is no settlement without our forces, in all the communities. Some settlements have been cleared, but additional sweeps are needed before declaring them safe."

Terrorists with automatic weapons terrorized neighborhoods throughout southern Israel, killing people and taking hostages.

This is the reality for Israelis right now.

Who is Hamas?

Hamas, or Harakat al Muqawama al Islamiyah, is a Sunni Islamist terrorist organization that operates as the de facto leader of the Gaza Strip. Founded in 1988 during the First Intifada as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas set two long-term goals, articulated in its charter: the end of the Jewish state and the creation of an Islamic state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Its more immediate goal is the “liberation of Palestine” and the “return” of the Palestinian people.

While its origins are with the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas has reportedly been funded, armed, and trained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) since the early 1990s. Hamas even opened an office in Tehran in the 1990s. Despite its longstanding ties with Tehran, the Palestinian terror group has had a rocky relationship with the Islamic Republic in recent years. In 2012, Iran cut off funding to Hamas after it refused to support the al-Assad regime in the Syrian Civil War.

But Iran resumed financial assistance to Hamas in 2017. “Relations with Iran are excellent, and Iran is the largest supporter of the Izz ad-Din al Qassam Brigades [Hamas’s military wing] with money and arms,” Yahya Sinwar, a senior Hamas military leader, said in 2017. In 2020, the U.S. State Department reported that Iran had provided more than $100 million annually to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Hamas has used Iranian support to launch several wars against Israel from its base in Gaza, including in 2008, 2009, 2014, and 2021. In each of those attacks, thousands of rockets were fired by terror organizations toward Israeli population centers. In total, dozens of civilians have been murdered via rocket attacks. resulting in dozens of civilian deaths. Hamas has also used Iranian know-how to help build its extensive network of tunnels throughout the Gaza Strip and underneath the Israel-Gaza border to conceal weapons and kidnap Israeli civilians. Hamas continues to develop itself militarily, for instance, launching a commando navy unit that became operational in recent years. Hamas also is currently holding four Israelis in Gaza - the bodies of two Israeli soldiers who were killed in 2014, and two civilians who crossed the border.

How did we get here?

Anti-Israel and antisemitic terrorist organizations located in the Gaza Strip have fired tens of thousands of rockets and mortars at Israeli civilians over the last two decades. The territory has been controlled by the Iran-backed antisemitic terror group Hamas since 2007. Hamas is one of the terror groups that launched rocket attacks on Israel. It also permits other such groups operating in the Gaza Strip, like Palestinian Islamic Jihad, to do the same.

During the May 2021 conflict in Gaza, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired over 4,300 rockets at Israeli civilians. In August 2022, Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired over 1,100 rockets at Israelis during the three-day escalation, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

In April, nearly three dozen rockets were fired from southern Lebanon. The barrage of rockets was the largest such attack from the territory of Israel’s northern neighbor since the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Click here to read more about the connection between Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as rocket attacks from Lebanon.

In May, Israel launched Operation Shield and Arrow to neutralize Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza after over 100 rockets were launched into Israel.

The violence stemming from Gaza is also linked to increasing terrorism in the West Bank, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s efforts to export its knowledge to the West Bank in order to carry out additional terror attacks against Israel. As such, Israeli security forces have been conducting near-daily counterterrorism operations.

Over the past year, Israel has experienced one of its deadliest periods of terrorist violence in Israel since the Second Intifada in the early 2000s.

What is the Gaza Strip?

The Gaza Strip is a 141-square-mile Palestinian enclave located near Israel’s southwestern tip. Bordering Egypt, Israel, and the Mediterranean Sea, the territory is home to over two million Palestinians. Its name is derived from the ancient city of Gaza, the largest city in the territory.

From 1948 to 1967, the Gaza Strip was occupied by Egypt, which took control of the territory during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, also known as Israel’s War of Independence. As a result of the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel gained control over the Gaza Strip from Egypt.

After Israeli withdrawal in 2005, the territory has been under de jure control of the Palestinian Authority, the governing body of the Palestinians, but de facto control by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, which violently ousted the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority from the territory in 2007.

What is Iron Dome and how does it save Israeli and Palestinian lives?

Iron Dome is an air defense missile system operational since 2012 that was developed by two Israeli firms - Rafael Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries - with support from the U.S. Emphasis on defense. It is never used to attack or retaliate and poses no threat to Palestinians.

The strongest air defense system in the world has three components: a radar that detects incoming rockets; a command-and-control system that determines the threat level; and an interceptor that, if the system determines human lives or infrastructure are at risk, seeks to destroy the incoming rocket before it strikes.

According to Israeli officials, it has been about 90% effective in stopping short-range rockets fired by Hezbollah terrorists next door in Lebanon or Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists in neighboring Gaza. The system protects Israelis of all backgrounds and faiths.

For example, when Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired more than 4,300 rockets from Gaza into Israel in May 2021, more than 1,500 targeted heavily populated areas, including Israel’s largest city, Tel Aviv. Iron Dome shot down more than 90% of those rockets, greatly reducing the death toll. Even with Iron Dome, about a dozen Israelis were murdered. That number would have been much higher without the Israeli missile defense system.

The governments of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran appeared to blame Israel for its escalating conflict with Hamas on Saturday.

The Palestinian militant group launched a mass attack on Israeli forces and settlements, killing at least 250 people in Israel and 232 in Gaza early Saturday, according to Israeli local media and the Palestinian government.

While leaders in the U.S. and Europe quickly denounced the attack and gave support for Israel, the three Middle Eastern nations criticized the country over its treatment of Palestinians.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is closely following the developments of the unprecedented situation between a number of Palestinian factions and the Israeli occupation forces, which has resulted in a high level of violence on several fronts there,” the country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The Kingdom recalls its repeated warnings of the dangers of the explosion of the situation as a result of the continued occupation, and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights, and the repetition of systematic provocations against its sanctities,” the statement continues.

The condemnation comes as both the Israeli and Saudi governments have attempted to normalize relations in recent years, at the encouragement of the U.S.

A senior Iranian government advisor explicitly endorsed Hamas in the conflict, the most direct support for the militant group from any government official globally.

“We congratulate the Palestinian fighters,” advisor Yahya Rahim Safavi said, according to state media via Reuters. “We will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.”

Iran state media showed video of parliament members chanting in support of Hamas on Saturday, saying “Death to Israel” and “Palestine is victorious, Israel will be destroyed”.

Iran has funded and supplied Hamas for years as part of its decades-long conflict with Israel.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry also blamed Israel for the violence.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds Israel alone responsible for the current escalation due to this ongoing violations of the rights of the Palestinian people, the latest of which is the repeated raids on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque under of the protection of Israeli police,” the ministry said in a statement.

Violence erupted at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem in April, a holy place for the Muslim faith. In multiple days of fighting, Israeli police raided the mosque and arrested dozens of worshipers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the conflict a “war” in a public address early Saturday.

The U.S. has vowed to support Israel, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin saying the government will ensure the country “has what it needs to defend itself.”

Critics tore into President Joe Biden as being responsible for Hamas’ assault on Israel Saturday by providing billions to Iran, which funds and supports the terrorist group.

In September, the Biden administration allowed the transfer of $6 billion in frozen assets to Iran — which funds and supports Hamas — in exchange for the release of five Americans.

The White House stressed at the time that Iran could only use the funds for “food, medicine, medical equipment that would not have a dual military use” — but Iran waved off the terms and publicly boasted they would deploy the cash “wherever we need it.”

GOP presidential candidates quickly slammed the Biden administration as playing a role in Saturday’s unprecedented attacks.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, “Iran has helped fund this war against Israel, and Joe Biden’s policies that have gone easy on Iran has helped to fill their coffers. Israel is now paying the price for those policies. We’re going to stand with the State of Israel, they need to root out Hamas and we need to stand up to Iran.”

“These Hamas attacks are a disgrace and Israel has every right to defend itself with overwhelming force. Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration,” former President Donald Trump said in a statement.

Former Vice President Mike Pence wrote on social media, “This is what happens when POTUS projects weakness on the world stage, kowtows to the mullahs in Iran with a $6 Billion ransom, and leaders in the Republican Party signal American retreat as Leader of the Free World. Weakness arouses Evil.”

Worst attack on Israel in 50 years: How we got here

2005: Israel unilaterally withdraws from the Gaza Strip over three decades after winning the territory from Egypt in the Six-Day War.

2006: Terrorist group Hamas wins a Palestinian legislative election.

2007: Hamas seizes control of Gaza in a civil war.

2008: Israel launches military offensive against Gaza after Palestinian terrorists fired rockets into the town of Sderot.

2023: Hamas launches the biggest attack on Israel in 50 years.

Over 300 Israelis are dead and at least 1,500 injured with the death toll expected to rise after Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets and sent dozens of militants into Israeli towns.

Hamas terrorists were seen taking female hostages and parading them down the street in horrifying videos.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced “We are at war” and vowed Hamas would pay “a price it has never known.”

Gaza health officials report at least 230 Palestinians have been killed with over 1,700 injured.

“Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel today is an assault on Western Civilization. The truth is though, Joe Biden funded these attacks on Israel,” South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott said. “America’s weakness is blood in the water for bad actors, but this is worse than that. We didn’t just invite this aggression, we paid for it. Iran is the biggest funder of Hamas. This is the Biden $6 billion ransom payment at work.”

Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, a staunch supporter of Israel, also condemned the attacks and pointed to the Hamas-Iran connection.

“Make no mistake: Hamas is a bloodthirsty terrorist organization backed by Iran and determined to kill as many innocent lives as possible. The reports out of Israel are horrific with a stunning number of dead and wounded and should be universally condemned,” Haley said in a statement.

Conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy said he was “appalled by the barbaric and medieval Hamas attacks” and called upon the US to stand with Israel.

Online the reaction was much the same, as critics of the Biden administration pounced on the cash giveaway.

“You gave the Iranian Regime $6 billion to launch this war. Resign!.” snapped Richard Grenell, a former Director of National Intelligence, in response to a tweet of condolence from Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Amid the firestorm Under Sec. Brian Nelson claimed that: “All of the money held in restricted accounts in Doha as part of the arrangement to secure the release of 5 Americans in September remains in Doha. Not a penny has been spent.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the nation was “at war” after Hamas — the militant ruling party in the Gaza Strip — launched its deadliest attack on the country in years, with at least 40 Israelis killed and hundreds wounds.

Biden released a statement on the attacks and stressed he was in close contact with Netanyahu.

“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel. Terrorism is never justified. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people,” Biden said. “The United States warns against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation.  My Administration’s support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.”

His national security team said the US condemns the attacks and that the administration stands firm with the US ally.

“The United States unequivocally condemns the unprovoked attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians. There is never any justification for terrorism. We stand firmly with the Government and people of Israel and extend our condolences for the Israeli lives lost in these attacks.  National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has spoken to Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi and we remain in close contact with our Israeli partners,” NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement.

Al-Amiri: If America intervenes in Palestine, we will intervene and will not hesitate to target

Shafaq News/ The leader in the coordination framework and head of the “Nabni” electoral coalition, Hadi Al-Amiri, on Monday, threatened America with targeting it if it intervened alongside Israel against the Palestinians, while he considered that Iran’s support for Iraq against ISIS saved it from collapse.

Al-Amiri said in a speech while receiving a group of Iraqi tribal sheikhs, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “The victories achieved in Palestine have been unable to be achieved by all Arab armies, and the new Iraq stands with the Palestinian cause and we will not back down from supporting it.”

He added, "All the Arab leaders abandoned the Palestinian cause, and only the Islamic Revolution and the resistance factions remained with it. Today, the will of the Palestinian people is victorious, and the Palestinian cause has become desired by fans of the Prophet's family and religious authorities."

He continued, "It is with great pride that we say that the Palestinian people achieved a great victory over the Zionist enemy," adding, "No one would have thought that Palestine would achieve this victory over the Zionist entity and the failure of the Zionist intelligence."

Al-Amiri stressed, "We, as Iraqis and as sons of the twentieth revolution, must support the Palestinian cause with all our might, and the banners of the liberation of Palestine will be launched from Iraq, God willing, so we must be prepared to defend the legitimate Palestinian cause."

Al-Amiri warned that if “America intervenes in Palestine, we will intervene and will not hesitate to target,” stressing, “Our position is clear regarding supporting the Palestinian cause because the Palestinian people are an oppressed people.”

On the other hand, Al-Amiri considered that “the position of the Supreme Authority, Mr. Al-Sistani, prevented igniting the sectarian war in Iraq,” pointing out that “when ISIS occupied a third of Iraq, the tribes rushed to protect it from collapse.”

He said, "If the tribes had not fulfilled the fatwa of the blessed authority, we would not have been able to overthrow the terrorist ISIS, and had it not been for the position and support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, we would have been news."
