The Ministry of Commerce has started delivering new electronic ration cards to the families included in the Karkh side, while confirming that its purpose is to determine the categories eligible for the items of the food basket. The Director of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade, Lama Hashim Al-Moussawi, told Al-Sabah: One million and 200 thousand electronic ration cards were printed and distributed among food agents by the Commercial and Planning Departments, in addition to distributing a written pledge form in which data is written by the included families and delivered to the agent . She added that the card of families covered by social care, who are registered within the catering system, has been updated.

And she indicated that the ministry is preparing to launch the process of updating the card in the areas of the outskirts of Karkh, which are Mahmoudiya, Latifiya and Abu Ghraib, while a similar campaign will be launched on the Rusafa side at the beginning of next month.

Al-Moussawi pointed out that the modernization processes in the provinces of Najaf, Muthanna and Kirkuk are approaching their final stages, and the modernization process is also taking place in the Dohuk province, and there is another parallel experiment that will be launched in the holy province of Karbala during the next few years. She stated that the aim of the electronic card project is to preserve public money and identify the eligible categories for the items of the food basket, in addition to creating a new solid database.

The Director of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade, Lama Hashim Al-Moussawi, said in a statement to the official newspaper, “Nass” (July 22, 2023), that one million and 200 thousand electronic ration cards were printed and distributed among food agents by the Commercial and Planning Departments, in addition to the distribution of a written pledge form in which the data is written by the included families and delivered to the agent. She added that the card of families covered by social care registered within the catering system has been updated.

{Economic: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Commerce clarified the mechanism for updating the electronic ration card.

Shatha Badr, responsible for the public relations of the food trade company in the Ministry of Commerce, told {Euphrates News} agency, that: "Updating the data of the electronic ration card on the Karkh side takes place at the Baghdad International Fair, where the citizen receives from the supply agent for his region the form for the family and the new electronic ration card. The form is filled out and returned to the agent."
She added, "Then the citizen (the head of the family) reviews with the electronic card at the Baghdad International Fair. If the family has unified cards, then the head of the family is sufficient for the review. But if the family has a civil status identity, the person with the identity must attend."
Badr confirmed, "The electronic ration card has been updated in a short period of time, and this is a step to facilitate the review for citizens."
And she indicated that "the step that the ministry will adopt later, and after completing the update of all data for citizens in all governorates, there will be a special electronic application on mobile phones through which the citizen can update his data or split his electronic ration card or add a new family member to the ration card through this application."

Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Commerce announced the start of the second phase of automating the electronic ration card, while indicating that the update mechanism is available seven days a week.

The assistant general manager of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade, Talib Abbas Hassan, said, in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, Tabtah, "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the company has embarked on the second phase of automating the electronic ration card, which includes updating citizens' data for the Baghdad governorate on its two sides, Karkh and Rusafa."

He added, "There is a strong demand by citizens to update the data," stressing that "the update mechanism is available seven days a week, from 8 am until late evening hours."

He pointed out, "The update process continues for the coming months," calling on "citizens to review the designated update centers and receive the electronic card from food agents."

He noted that "dedicated centers will be opened in the coming days to ensure the speedy completion of the data update transaction for citizens."
