The giant full moon shines for the first time in 2022.. Here is the date of its appearance

Baghdad - people

While astronomy enthusiasts can enjoy their eyes, watching the first giant full moon during 2022, this phenomenon will have a different impact on the movement of ships.

This effect is related to the occurrence of tides in the seas, where the earth, moon and sun are arranged every month on the day of the full moon, and this causes a wide tidal range.

And since the full moon will be giant next Sunday, due to its proximity to the perigee point, the tide will emerge in a phenomenon called high perigee, as the Jeddah Astronomical Society says in a statement on its Facebook page.

The giant full moon is a description given to the moon, whether in conjunction or the full moon, when the distance between the center of the moon and the center of the Earth is within 362.146 kilometers, a term that refers to the scientific designation (perigee moon).

This means that the moon will be at the closest distance from the Earth, and in the case of the full moon next Sunday, it will be at a distance of 362,127 kilometers, which will make its apparent size larger and its brightness brighter.

173-183456-giant-full-moon-2022-effect-ships-2.jpeg

And the Jeddah astronomer explains that the moon will shine from the southeastern horizon with sunset, and it may take an orange color, as a result of dust and other planktons in the atmosphere around the Earth that scatter the white light reflected from it and the colors of the blue spectrum are scattered and the colors of the red spectrum that we see remain, but after its rise and distance On the horizon, it will appear in the usual silver-white color, and this happens every month, and it will decorate the sky all night long, until it sets with the sunrise of Monday.

The association adds that in general, it can be said that the moon is full throughout the night, but scientifically the name of the full moon is called at the moment when the moon is at an angle of 180 degrees from the sun, which will occur next Monday morning at 07:14 am Mecca time (04:14 am GMT). ) and will complete half of its orbit during the month.

This will be followed 11 hours and 13 minutes later by its arrival at the perihelion point (the closest point in its orbit to Earth) on Tuesday, May 17, at 06:27 pm Mecca time (03:27 pm GMT).

The full moon will have an apparent width of 5.3% larger than the average; Therefore, most people will not notice a difference between a giant full moon and other full moons, and even the bright light can be easily scattered by clouds or street lights.

Global anticipation for the first giant moon during 2022 (video)

Global anticipation for the first giant moon in 2022
126 views May 14, 2022

Baghdad - people

Next Monday, the globe will witness a total lunar eclipse that will be seen in the Americas, Western Europe and most of Africa, the first of two this year, and it will mark the first giant full moon in 2022.

In turn, the Jeddah Astronomical Society says: “This eclipse is very deep, which means that the duration of the total eclipse phase will be long, as the moon will take an hour and 25 minutes to pass through the Earth’s shadow, and the duration of all phases of the eclipse will take 5 hours and 18 minutes between 03:32 And 08:50 am Cairo time, on the global level.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves from west to east through the Earth's shadow. During this eclipse, the moon will be a day and a half away from perigee - the closest point in its orbit to Earth; Which will make its apparent size 5.3% larger than the average, which means that during this eclipse it will appear relatively large in the sky.

A lunar eclipse can be seen in all regions where the time is at night, but some will see the eclipse better than others, depending on the geographical location, as it is seen either with the moon rising or setting when it is low in the sky.
