Israeli Strike in Syria Targets Senior Iranian Officials and Other High-Level Targets

Reports of the Syrian air defense systems being alerted on Monday evening; Strikes believed to be targeting several Iranian targets in the area; Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s brother wounded in the attack.

Monday – The Israeli Air Force carried out a strike on high-level Iranian and Syrian targets near Palmyra, which is located in the central region of the country. Syria has been home to several Israeli strikes, especially in the last year, due to Iranian entrenchment in the region. Often times, Israel will strike from Lebanese airspace.

While initial reports claimed that those killed in the attack were of Syrian and ‘unknown’ nationality, it is now reported that several of them were senior Iranian officials as well as a top Syrian general. Included among the injured is Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s brother, General Maher al-Assad. Iran is not only entrenching themselves in the region, but they also back the corrupt Assad regime.

Syrian news outlets are reporting that Syrian air defense systems neutralized several Israeli projectiles throughout the attack. As is typical, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) refrained from commenting on the strike.

The attack came just hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif partook in a meeting with President Bashar al-Assad in the capital city of Damascus.

Netanyahu to Remain Prime Minister for 18 Months Under New Unity Government

Blue & White Party’s Benny Gantz and Likud Party’s Benjamin Netanyahu sign an agreement for a coalition government Monday; Netanyahu to remain PM for 18 months before Gantz takes over.

Monday – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Blue & White Party’s Benny Gantz have signed an agreement to form a unity government. This will leave Benjamin Netanyahu at the helm for another 18 months before Benny Gantz takes over. It is reported that Netanyahu will serve as the vice prime minister under Gantz beginning in the Fall of 2021.

As part of the new agreement, Israel will annex the Jordan Valley as well as all of the Israeli settlements in Judea & Samaria (also called the West Bank) by the beginning of July. This means that the Jewish State will exercise sovereignty over this region for the first time in nearly 2,000 years. Netanyahu stated that the one condition for this to take place is the approval of the White House, which is likely to happen given their recognition in recent months regarding the legality of Israeli settlements in the region.

Also included in the agreement is that Benny Gantz will serve as defense minister and deputy prime minister.

Despite the political closure that comes from this unity government, Gantz is facing backlash from a lot of his base after signing the agreement, which his supporters see as further enabling Netanyahu. Individuals from the Blue & White Party are reported to believe that a system of checks and balances is present within the agreement, which gives different realms of authority to both Gantz and Netanyahu.

On Wednesday, Iran’s military, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), successfully launched their first military satellite into orbit after several failed attempts. Their previous attempt came early in February.

After the successful launch, an official from the IRGC stated, “The first satellite of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been successfully launched into orbit by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps… This action will be a great success and a new development in the field of space for Islamic Iran.”

Despite a successful launch, Iran’s decision to focus on sending a satellite into space amid the catastrophe they’re facing due to COVID-19 is being met with significant criticism. Citing a United Nations resolution violation, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated, “I think every nation has an obligation to go to the United Nations and evaluate whether this missile launch was consistent with that security council resolution. I don’t think it remotely is, and I think Iran needs to be held accountable for what they have done.”

Speaking to the media, US Air Force General John Hyten – vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned that the success of this satellite could have ramifications regarding their missile technology. He stated, “It went a very long way … which means, it has the ability, once again, to threaten their neighbors, our allies, and we want to make sure they can never threaten the United States.”

Iran has denied any intentions of implementing this technology to its missiles, but Iran has also denied any pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Fitch Provides Hopeful Outlook Regarding Israel’s Economy Post-COVID 19

Fitch, the international credit rating agency, provides a hopeful outlook on the Israeli economy post-COVID-19; While the GDP will shrink for 2020, Fitch expects it to grow by 5% in 2021.

With so much financial uncertainty in the midst and soon-to-be aftermath of the global pandemic of COVID-19, Fitch has given a hopeful outline regarding what they believe Israel’s economy will look like over the next two years. Fitch is upholding Israel’s Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR), which is an A+.

Israel finished 2019 with record numbers, which will certainly take a hit due to this crisis. That being said, while Fitch expects significant changes to the GDP in 2020, and perhaps early 2021, they anticipate at least a 5% growth overall in 2021 for the Jewish State. Additionally, they expect Israel’s annual growth to increase by approximately 3%.

According to Israel’s accountant general, Rony Hizkiyahu, “The affirmation of the rating at a time of unprecedented global crisis indicates the company’s confidence in the Israeli economy and brings home the need to maintain fiscal discipline even as we deal with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in Israel.”

Moshe Kahlon, Israel’s finance minister, added to the positive feedback, saying that this “confirmation of Israel’s credit rating indicates the great confidence of the global economic system that the State of Israel will succeed in the global crisis following the Coronavirus. This is what gives hope to Israeli citizens that the Israeli economy will return to its economic strength as it was on the eve of the crisis.”

Early Monday morning, Israeli aircraft targeted Iranian militia near Damascus, Syria; Bennett: Keep your ears open. We’ve gone from a policy of blocking Iran to pushing it out.

Reports of an Israeli strike from Lebanese airspace surfaced throughout the day on Monday after the Israeli Air Force targeted Iranian militia near Damascus, Syria, early on Monday morning. Syria state media claims that several Israeli missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems.

While it is the custom of Israeli military personnel to refrain from commenting on attacks such as this, the strike not only follows the pattern of previous Israeli military action in Syria, but it came just days after Defense Minister Naftali Bennett stated, “Keep your ears open. We’ve gone from a policy of blocking Iran to pushing it out.”

This is said to be the third Israeli strike in Syria in less than two weeks. While initial reports claimed there were no casualties, sources are now saying that four Iranian militia were killed. Sadly, at least three civilians were killed from the shrapnel of either Israeli or Syrian missiles after the Syrian air defense systems intercepted some of the incoming projectiles.

Bennett would further add, “For Iran, Syria is an adventure far from home: 1,000 km from home, from the Golan Heights. For us, it’s life. Several Banks Set on Fire in Lebanon Amid Economic Protests

At least a dozen different banks were set on fire and vandalized Tuesday evening throughout Lebanon; The Lebanese pound continues to decline, leading to more protests; IMF warns of economic danger for the remainder of the year.

Amid the ongoing decline of the Lebanese pound and the growing frustration with what is a corrupt government regime, Lebanese citizens are continuing their protests throughout the country. Tuesday evening was met with at least a dozen banks being set ablaze as well as other acts of vandalism.

At this time, it is unknown just how many protestors were hurt in the events, however, over 80 security personnel are confirmed to have received injuries. The most significant protest took place in Tripoli, the second-largest and poorest city after a protester by the name of Fouaz al-Semaan was killed on Monday after being shot by security forces.

Protests that were frequent at the end of 2019 have only enhanced at this point. What’s changed is that the people are even angrier now. Weaponry such as petrol bombs and Molotov cocktails were used in the attacks on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The decline of the Lebanese economy is not a new reality. Roughly 50% of the country was in poverty at the beginning of 2020 – a number that has risen since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. Lebanon’s social affairs minister reported that nearly 75% of the country is in need of aid right now.

One Lebanese economist stated, “We have recession with hyperinflation. This accelerates poverty and precarity and increases social unrest. Ultimately, there’ll be more violence on the street because of deep anger and poverty.”

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) anticipates that Lebanon is going to experience the worst economic decline in the Middle East in 2020, as their GDP falls an expected 12%.

Germany Conducts Raids After Complete Ban of Hezbollah

Germany has now officially banned the Iranian-backed terror regime of Hezbollah entirely; Raids are being conducted throughout the country targeting several supporters of the organization.

Thursday – After Germany officially banned all activity of the Iranian-backed terrorist group known as Hezbollah, officials began conducting raids throughout the country. These raids are targeting the approximate 1,000 individuals who have any association with the Islamic Shi’ite terrorist group.

Germany had already banned the military wing of Hezbollah, but it wasn’t until today that they banned the group as a whole. The raids primarily targeted mosques that are believed to belong to Hezbollah located in several different cities. Hezbollah’s major area of impact is in the Middle East – more specifically, Lebanon, where they’re currently dealing with a major uprising of the people who are ready to see them gone (to put it nicely).

Germany’s Interior Ministry noted that one purpose of the ban is because Hezbollah “calls for the violent elimination of the State of Israel and questions the right of the State of Israel to exist.”

The Interior Ministry further stated, “The organization is therefore fundamentally against the concept of international understanding, regardless of whether it presents itself as a political, social or military structure. Its violent denial of the right to exist of the State of Israel also fundamentally opposes Germany’s national ethos.”

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) shared in the praise of the decision and stated, “We now hope other European nations will take a close look at Germany’s decision and reach the same conclusion about the true nature of Hezbollah.”

This new reality could deal a blow to the Iranian regime who strongly depends on good standing with the European Union, primarily for trade advantages that side-step the current devastating US sanctions.

Breakthrough? – Israeli Scientists Create Disinfectant Using Tap Water

Researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel, create method for turning tap water into disinfectant; The method has not yet been submitted for review; Initial tests prove the product to be highly-effective.

At a time in history when disinfectant is experiencing some of its highest demand, Israeli researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gann, Israel, have developed a process for creating disinfectant from routine tap water. While the process itself has not entered review, initial tests conducted at the university and a hospital in northern Israel proved the recipe to be extremely effective, killing different bacteria and viruses.

The individuals responsible for the creation of this process are Prof. Doron Aurbach, Dr. Eran Avraham, and Dr. Izaak Cohen.

In explaining how the product is created through the means of a manageable amount of electricity and water, Dr. Aurbach states that “Usually water always contains the usual salt – sodium chloride. When you apply electricity to water you cause electrolysis — decomposition of water that forms the elements hydrogen and oxygen as gases.”

He would elaborate in calling it “a process that produces hypo chloric acid, containing the three elements bound together, at a well-defined level of acidity and adjustable concentrations. We form highly aggressive oxidative conditions for all kinds of microbes.”

Not only did the product pass initial tests with flying colors, but the researchers also believe it can be used to treat a variety of wounds. And with COVID-19 stealing the attention of the world at this time, Dr. Aurbach explained, “We examined the ability of these materials to impair herpes simplex virus type 1 infection and human coronavirus OC43. Both viruses were completely eliminated when exposed to the disinfectants for different periods of time. The structural characteristics of OC43 are similar to those of recent SARS-CoV-2 suggesting that this virus will also be easily eliminated with this disinfectant.”

Something that makes this product even more impressive is that it’s significantly more powerful than bleach, yet it’s far safer. Not only is it far safer, but it’s far more cost-effective being water-based.

Barak Dror Wanderman, who owns his own Israeli startup called AqooA Solutions: Eco Sanitizing Technologies, is in the final stages of producing portable stations to dispense the water-based disinfectant in the future.

Wanderman would praise their partnership, stating, “We are on the brink of a revolution by making the most effective green disinfectant available to the entire population and medical institutions. This technology will save many lives, save the economy a lot of money, and eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals that harm the environment.”

The hope of the researchers is for this disinfectant to be marketed in several different ways such as spray, wipes, bottle dispensers, etc.

This new product is one more evidence as to why just weeks ago, two US senators proposed a bipartisan bill that would fund joint-research between Israel and the US regarding COVID-19. Their reason? None other than the fact that they believe Israel to be a world leader in medical and technological research – a truth that is further revealed in what is believed to be this new scientific breakthrough.

Turkish Lira Drops to 7.02 Per US Dollar; Turkish & Lebanese Economies Continue to Struggle

The Lira meets record low value as the week comes to an end; The reported value is now approximately 7.02 lira per US dollar; This comes after continual drops in previous weeks.

Following the trend of recent weeks, the Turkish lira has once again dropped as of Friday. This time, however, it surpassed the mark of 7.0 lira per USD, reaching a new, record low of 7.02.

After Murat Uysal, the governor of Turkey’s central bank, announced an even lower inflation forecast for Turkey’s future, an economist at Tera Investments (Istanbul), Enver Erkan, stated, “From his remarks, we understood that the central bank will continue to cut interest rates.”

Turkey is continuing to burn through its cash reserves. To put it in perspective, Israel holds cash reserves of approximately $176 billion while Turkey, a significantly larger country, has cash reserves of nearly $2 billion.

Aside from Turkey, Lebanon is facing a similar crisis with the Lebanese pound – a crisis that has put nearly 50% of the Lebanese population into poverty and has required 75% of the country to need assistance.

Mossad Responsible for Intel on Hezbollah Activity in Germany

Israel’s elite intelligence community responsible for information that led to raids earlier in the week; These raids came after Germany banned the Iranian-backed proxy; Information included the location of explosives, money-laundering, and whereabouts of high-value Hezbollah members.

Late last week, German officials conducted several raids throughout the country that targeted over 1,000 individuals associated with Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed terror organization. This came after the interior ministry issued a complete ban of the Shi’ite terror proxy. Prior to, it was only the military wing of Hezbollah that was banned from Germany.

Raids were conducted in several locations including homes and mosques.

What wasn’t public knowledge at the time is that Israel’s elite intelligence community, Mossad, is responsible for providing the intelligence that led to this decision by the German government. Mossad provided intel on Hezbollah money-laundering, activity within Germany itself, and storage facilities that were housing explosives. Also provided by Mossad were the identities of several high-value Hezbollah members within Germany’s borders.

Explaining the context for what has transpired, an Israeli official stated, “The move is the result of many months of work with all parties in Germany. The heads of services were required to present explicit evidence and legal proof… linking the organization to significant terrorist activity, and that is what we did.”

The official would also add that Mossad has a very good relationship with the head of intelligence in Germany.

Iran, of course, has condemned Germany’s decision to not only ban Hezbollah but also label it a Shi’ite terror organization, citing Israel and the United States as the beneficiaries of this decision.

A pair of Turkish fighter jets fly dangerously close to a Grecian military helicopter carrying high-ranking officials; Reports of Turkish jets daily violating Grecian airspace; Greece believes Turkey is seeking to provoke a confrontation.

Shortly after a Grecian military helicopter carrying high-level military personnel entered the air after visiting military outposts on Sunday, it was met by a pair of Turkish F-16 fighter jets as it made its way home. The jets are reported to have harassed the helicopter in several ways, including flying dangerously close to it.

Inside the helicopter was Minister of National Defense Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos & Chief of General Staff General Konstantinos Floros. They were visiting military outposts located in the eastern Aegean, which is located close to the Turkish mainland. It was after they left Oinousses that they were confronted by the jets.

According to one source, it’s a reoccurring theme for Turkish fighter jets to violate Grecian airspace. Actions like this have led Greece to believe that Turkey is seeking a confrontation. And like a good portion of the world believes, Greece understands this event to be a fruit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s desire for a new Ottoman Empire.

The tension between the two nations has been present for some time. This tension increased even more several months ago when Israel, Greece, and Cyprus signed a unilateral agreement for an underwater pipeline, sending natural gas straight from Israel to southern Europe. This agreement increased Turkey’s economic desperation.

Turkey is also on a destructive economic path at this time, as the lira fell to record lows at the end of the week.
