A 
senior Lebanese delegation arrived in Iraq on Sunday, a political source said, adding that the delegation was headed by Lebanese Minister of Communications Mohammed Shukair. 

The source said in an interview with Alsumaria News that "a high-level Lebanese delegation arrived in Iraq under the chairmanship of the Lebanese Minister of Communications Mohammed Choucair." 

"The delegation will participate in the reconstruction of the affected areas and discuss other matters, the most important of which is investing in Iraq," the source said, adding that "the delegation consists of 25 businessmen and various fields and specialties, in addition to Lebanon's ambassador to Iraq Ali Habhab" .

Shoukair heads an economic delegation to Baghdad: Private sector ready to invest in Iraq, partake in economic advancement


NNA - Minister of Tele-Communications, Mohammad Shoukair, visited Iraq on Sunday at the head of an economic delegation to discuss the possible investment opportunities, reconstruction projects and ways to involve the Lebanese private sector in this process.


The visit included several meetings with Iraqi officials, most important of which was an expanded meeting devoted to outlining investment opportunities in Iraq and a meeting between Minister Shoukair and his Iraqi counterpart, during which they discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of telecommunications and information technology.


At the end of the visit, Shoukair stressed the need to follow up on the various significant and prominent projects that were raised during discussions. He disclosed that he will be forming a body for the development of economic relations between Lebanon and Iraq at the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Chambers to keep track of the projects to be implemented by the Iraqi government and the investment of Lebanese companies, especially with a strong Iraqi desire to engage the private sector in Lebanon in this process.


He said that he would "convey to Prime Minister Saad Hariri the common desire to activate the economic committee between the two countries and to sign the economic and trade agreements required to increase the level of bilateral economic cooperation."


Shoukair noted that he invited his Iraqi counterpart to visit Lebanon, "and it was agreed to plan the visit this month to discuss projects that the Iraqi Ministry of Telecommunications wishes to implement with the private sector to invest in Lebanon

A series of extensive and extensive meetings were held in Baghdad today, which included a number of Lebanese companies in various economic fields, among them an official delegation headed by Lebanese Minister of Communications Dr. Mohammad Shukair. The meeting was attended by Minister of Communications Naim Al-Rubaie, Chairman of the National Investment Authority Sami Al-Araji, Badr is an official of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Iraq. 
Al-Araji said during the opening of the joint meetings, according to a statement received by "Economy News" that the five-year plan and the next decade of the Iraqi economy include in the most important axes turn the basic sectors in Iraq to productive sectors achieve profits for the State through an investment map prepared for this purpose, Able to stand on its feet by focusing on small and medium enterprises in all sectors.
He pointed out that "the existence of a strict and strong financial and monetary management depends on the transfer of important financial institutions in the country from the case of personal and paper circulation to the electronic system in cooperation with various international parties, thus ensuring the reduction of the risks of administrative corruption and the achievement of important financial revenues to the state." 
He pointed out that the opening of more than (20) border ports on Iraq would contribute greatly to the economic openness required and gives opportunities for further border discipline, stressing that there are important economic achievements must appear clearly during the period of (100) Which is subject to direct and detailed follow-up by the Prime Minister to achieve the objectives of the advancement of the Iraqi economy. 
He called on Lebanese companies to take their role in the Iraqi market in a manner consistent with the historical and social relationship between the two countries.
Minister of Communications reviewed the most important investment opportunities available in the ministry with the mechanisms and forms of investment, which can enter companies in various jurisdictions in addition to projects to restore infrastructure and investment, as well as transit companies and the transfer of mail between the provinces and projects of electronic portals and other important projects for the Iraqi economy.
And the possibility of dealing with the ministry directly or through the companies specialized in the fields of Internet and information and postal companies and various forms of investment between the public and private sectors, expressing the hope that the Lebanese participation in this area more effective than it is now. "The Fund is working through its financial resources represented by the federal budget and the coordination of loans and grants for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the areas affected by terrorism and compensation through rehabilitation or new projects. He hoped that the next ten days will present more than ( 440) investment projects in different sectors in the context of the reconstruction campaign of these areas.
For his part, the President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), "The strategy of the institution is in line with the strategy of the World Bank and the support of the non-oil sector in Iraq by removing the obstacles facing the domestic and foreign sector and improve the investment environment through agreements concluded with, among others, the National Investment Commission with emphasis On the sectors of development and reconstruction targeted at that Iraqi investor at home and abroad to draw him back to the country. 
The Lebanese ambassador to Iraq, Ali al-Hibab, who attended the meeting, announced his country's intention to open the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to strengthen the Iraqi-Lebanese relations, which will specialize in the file of reconstruction of Iraq to provide any Lebanese company with the required information.

Lebanese Minister of State for Foreign Trade Hassan Abdel-Rahim Murad proposed on Saturday the establishment of a free zone on Lebanese territory with Iraq, pointing out that most Western countries are taking from Lebanon a passage to transit their goods to Iraq.
A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry received the "Economy News" a copy of it, "Ali Abbas Bandar al-Amiri and Minister of State for Foreign Trade of Lebanon Hassan Abdul Rahim Murad at his office and at the request of the embassy," noting that "was discussed during the meeting discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between Iraq and Lebanon, especially economic relations, and finding solutions to the problems that face development. "
"Lebanon is seeking to strengthen relations of partnership with Iraq in various fields," the statement quoted Mourad as saying. "The Lebanese government is working to open up to the countries in eastern Lebanon, especially Iraq, especially in the fields of investment and trade."
The statement pointed out that the minister touched on "the idea of establishing a free zone on Lebanese territory with Iraq on the grounds that most Western countries are taking from Lebanon a passage to transit their goods to Iraq."
For his part, the Iraqi ambassador stressed "Iraq's keenness to establish the best relations with Lebanon for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples."
