A government spokesman says Iraq's Cabinet has approved next year's budget, sending it to parliament for final approval.

Spokesman Rafid Jabouri said Tuesday that the 2015 budget of 123 trillion Iraqi dinars ($105.48 billion) will run with a deficit of 23 trillion dinars ($19.72 billion).

The approval is considered an achievement for Haider al-Abadi's government as the previous administration never managed to approve the 2014 budget due to political wrangling.

Jabouri added that the budget calculations are based on an assumed oil price of $60 a barrel.

Iraq holds the world's fourth largest oil reserves, some 143.1 billion barrels, and oil revenues make up nearly 95 percent of its budget. The price of oil has fallen by about half since June to around $55 per barrel.

The Cabinet approved the draft federal budget law for fiscal 2015.

 

A statement by the Office of the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi received by all of Iraq [where] a copy of the "Council of Ministers approved in its regular day on the draft federal budget law for 2015 and forwarded to the House of Representatives."

 

"The committee was formed under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and the membership of the Deputy Prime Minister Bahaa al-Araji, financial planning, higher education, scientific research and transportation and ministers, to review and re-formulations of some materials budget legally."

 

The head of the House of Representatives Saleem al-Jubouri, announced Tuesday, for the convening of a special session of parliament on Thursday to discuss the budget.

 

Jubouri said in a statement to where] he "decided to hold an extraordinary session of the budget at 11 on Thursday morning, December 25".

 

The Cabinet has approved today the budget of $ 124 trillion dinars without a financial deficit.
