umbertino
wallah An Arabic word that means "I swear to God." or I swear to Allah. "Wallah, I'm telling the truth." I can only say "Shukran" ( Thanks) and "Allah Ah Akbar" ( God Is Great). Plus of course "Inshallah" ( God Willing). The Settlers Killed Off Most The Indians There With Their Bugs. (Diseases) Very Sad. Thanks Maggie.......I remember it because I passed through it on one of my many bus wanderings back in 1977. I had a great time in Tacoma and a blast ( good one) in beautiful Seattle. I also recall Wenatchee and Vancouver, Wa. I had noticed at the time that Wash. State appeared to be the orchard ( apples) of America which characterizes also my area here in Italy. We have lots and lots of apple orchards and vineyards here. Sorry to learn about that ( Indians). umbertino
My area being Region Trentino-Alto Adige ( for those who visited or heard about it). My city is Trento ( Region's' Capital). Got famous because of the (infamous) Council of Trent held in the Cathedral here ( still existing) I think circa 1545 - 1552.

(Pun Intended) I Love Seattle Too... I Really Miss The Pacific Coast. Yes.. I enjoyed Seattle.. I was a guest in a house where friends of friends ( you know.. word of mouth...travelling on a budget and stuff..) lived.. They were students ( Univ.) and when they learned I was from Italy they all sang " Hey.. The Pope smokes dope"...I said...ok.. fine with me....Smile. They were all great folks and I had a fantastic time in those days there.. I recall one particular guy who ( as he heard I enjoyed reading books a lot at that time) advised me on getting " Sometimes a great notion" by Ken Kesey.... A movie was made after the book starring Paul Newman. Edited May 7, 2013 by umbertino

Now YOU weren't on THAT bus were you Umbertino??? Just Kidding. Yes Maggie.. Ken Kesey was a Member of the Underground Group called "The Fugs" .. Ken and another guy who was a legend in the Beat Generation scene, .. Neal Cassady, a friend of writer Jack Kerouac, whom infact Kerouac depicted in the epic book " On The Road" as "Dean". ....And a couple of other characters.... No, I wasn't on that Bus, Maggie... Smile. I missed lots of good things including Woodstock '69 ( I was only 12 at the time, broke, which still I am and living far away from Woodstock....) umbertino
Sorry.. I confused The Fugs with the other underground group " The Merry Pranksters" Kesey and Cassady were at one point part of the Merry Pranksters. The Ken I recalled from " The Fugs" was Ken Weaver. It's possible that the 2 groups may have inter-acted at times but I'm not sure. In 1968 writer Tom Wolfe wrote a book " The electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" telling about the experiences of the Merry Pranksters.
