Officials Release Details of Latest Strikes Against ISIS in Syria, Iraq

From a Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve News Release

SOUTHWEST ASIA, Aug. 7, 2017 — U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria yesterday, conducting 34 strikes consisting of 40 engagements, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

U.S. Central Command continues to work with partner nations to conduct targeted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria as part of the comprehensive strategy to degrade and defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

Officials reported details of yesterday's strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

Strikes in Syria

In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 28 strikes consisting of 32 engagements against ISIS targets:

-- Near Abu Kamal, a strike destroyed three ISIS oil stills.

-- Near Dayr Az Zawr, a strike destroyed three ISIS oil stills.

-- Near Raqqa, 24 strikes engaged 11 ISIS tactical units and destroyed 30 fighting positions, two vehicles, two command-and-control nodes, two mortar systems, a tunnel, a heavy machine gun, an improvised explosive device facility and a vehicle-borne-bomb facility; and damaged six fighting positions.

-- Near Shadaddi, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit, destroyed a mortar system and a vehicle and damaged a fighting position.

Strikes in Iraq

In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of eight engagements against ISIS targets:

-- Near Huwayjah, two strikes destroyed two ISIS oil refineries.

-- Near Kisik, a strike destroyed three ISIS mortar systems and two sniper rifles.

-- Near Rawah, a strike destroyed an ISIS tactical vehicle and a storage facility.

-- Near Tal Afar, two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed two IED facilities.

Previous Strikes

Additionally, 11 strikes consisting of 16 engagements were conducted in Syria and Iraq on Aug. 4-5 that closed within the last 24 hours.

-- On Aug. 4, near Raqqa, Syria, four strikes engaged three ISIS tactical units, destroyed five fighting positions and damaged a fighting position.

-- On Aug. 5, near Raqqa, Syria, five strikes engaged four ISIS tactical units and destroyed four fighting positions and a heavy machine gun.

-- On Aug. 5, near Tal Afar, Iraq, two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units, destroyed two vehicle-borne-bomb facilities and damaged a supply route.

Part of Operation Inherent Resolve

These strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to destroy ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The destruction of ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria also further limits the group's ability to project terror and conduct external operations throughout the region and the rest of the world, task force officials said.

The list above contains all strikes conducted by fighter, attack, bomber, rotary-wing or remotely piloted aircraft; rocket-propelled artillery; and some ground-based tactical artillery when fired on planned targets, officials noted.

Ground-based artillery fired in counterfire or in fire support to maneuver roles is not classified as a strike, they added. A strike, as defined by the coalition, refers to one or more kinetic engagements that occur in roughly the same geographic location to produce a single or cumulative effect.

For example, task force officials explained, a single aircraft delivering a single weapon against a lone ISIS vehicle is one strike, but so is multiple aircraft delivering dozens of weapons against a group of ISIS-held buildings and weapon systems in a compound, having the cumulative effect of making that facility harder or impossible to use. Strike assessments are based on initial reports and may be refined, officials said.

The task force does not report the number or type of aircraft employed in a strike, the number of munitions dropped in each strike, or the number of individual munition impact points against a target.

Khandan -

The spokesman for the Joint Operations Command, Brigadier General Yehia Rasool, said Monday that the security file in the city of Mosul will remain in the hands of the army until rebuilding the security capabilities of the local police forces.

"There are no plans to withdraw military units from Mosul, it is still too early for that," Brigadier Yahya Rasool told Anatolia news agency.

"We count on the Nineveh police command, which played a major role in fighting with the military units to hold the liberated areas," the Joint Operations Command spokesman said.

"It is still too early for the local police to manage the security file in Mosul," Rasul said.

"Local police need to build their security capacity to take over the task of maintaining security and internal order in the liberated areas," he said.

Looking for that Abadi announcement (soon?) of an ISIS free Iraq. First of the year is close at hand. If they're going to pull the trigger on currency and rebuilding, it's a perfect time. I'm not optimistic that the parliament will do anything, even into next year, except CYA for elections. Unless Abadi has some tricks up his sleeves, I don't see HCL or Article 140 on the horizon. I want to be positive, but history has shown those fools as inept and pathetic politicians. Poor Iraq citizens. This is who runs their country. :(

I tend to agree, with all that has happened in the past with them I don't seem very optimistic because I bought dinar in 2005 and have been watching everything since, look at what Maliki did as PM and all he's done since, they can't or want do anything about him.  So with that I can't see an RV coming anytime soon, but I hope I'm wrong.  Election are coming soon, and every time they clear ISIS from one city, almost immediately another invested city pops up, hmmmm.

US State Department: We monitor the movements of Iraqi forces accurately

A US State Department spokeswoman said Washington was closely monitoring the movements of Iraqi forces.

In response to a question on Iraqi military actions along the lines of contact with the Peshmerga forces in northern Mosul and southern Kirkuk, he said that our main goal is to eliminate the sting, protect the stability of the region and do not want any party to disturb the security and stability of those areas.

Indicating that they are closely monitoring the movements of Iraqi forces.

The statement came after the announcement by the Security Council of the Kurdistan Region , Wednesday evening, that Iraq is planning to attack the Kurdistan region, saying that the Council receives serious messages from Iraqi forces in this regard.

"We are receiving serious messages from Iraqi forces, the popular crowd militia and the federal police," the council said in a tweet on its Twitter account. Adding that "these forces are preparing for a major attack on Kurdistan in the south-west of Kirkuk and northern Mosul."

This, while the Peshmerga government of the Kurdistan Regional Government, said Thursday that it had seen senior US officials on the military movements of Iraqi forces near the positions of Peshmerga forces in areas north of Mosul and south of Kirkuk.

The ministry said in a statement (Basnoyz) that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sarbest Zekin met with the US Consul in the province of Kurdistan, Ken Gross, and discussed the developments on the lines of contact between the Peshmerga forces and Iraqi forces and coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the US military.

The statement quoted the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Peshmerga, that the Iraqi forces began military movements near the positions of the Peshmerga in Shankal north of Mosul, and in the south of Kirkuk . Noting that they do not see good intentions in these moves.

He called on US Secretary of State Colin Powell to block any undesirable developments leading to the collapse of the situation.

The statement said that the US Consul confirmed that they are familiar with the situation. Calling on everyone to exercise restraint and prevent any undesirable incidents.

Coalition Strikes Continue Against ISIS in Syria, Iraq

From a Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve News Release

SOUTHWEST ASIA, Oct. 25, 2017 — U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria yesterday, conducting seven strikes consisting of 13 engagements, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

Officials reported details of yesterday's strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

Strikes in Syria

Near Dayr Az Zawr, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit in two engagements.

Strikes in Iraq

In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted five strikes consisting of 11 engagements against ISIS targets:

-- Near Qaim, two strikes destroyed four supply routes and a vehicle-borne-bomb storage facility.

-- Near Beiji, two strikes destroyed an ISIS-held building and a vehicle-borne-bomb factory.

-- Near Qayyarah, a strike damaged two supply routes.

Previous Strikes

Additionally, three strikes consisting of three engagements were conducted in Beiji, Iraq, on Oct. 23 that closed within the last 24 hours. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed seven unmanned aerial vehicles.
