Shafaq News/ The head of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Haibat al-Halbousi, revealed, on Wednesday, a parliamentary and political movement to pass the oil and gas law, which has been suspended for 18 years.

Al-Halbousi told Shafaq News Agency, "There is a parliamentary and political movement to bring the views closer and unify the visions of the various Iraqi political forces in order to pass the oil and gas law that has been stalled in the Iraqi parliament since 2005."

He explained that "the adoption of the law will join the method of extracting oil and natural minerals, as well as regulating oil revenues, and it could end the differences between the Baghdad government and the Kurdistan region that resulted in the distribution of oil extraction revenues."

Al-Halbousi indicated, "The Parliamentary Oil Committee and the House of Representatives are working to approve the oil and gas law as soon as possible, specifically after approving the general budget law."

On Tuesday (March 7), Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani revealed that there is a draft oil and gas law being reviewed between Baghdad and Erbil in order to ripen it and then approve it.

Al-Sudani said, "The oil and gas law is one of the government's obligations, and there is a draft law being circulated between the Federal Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region."

He pointed out that "after approving the budget law, the draft oil and gas law will be discussed."

And the official spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government, Jutiar Adel, announced on Sunday (3/12/2023) that a delegation from the regional government will visit Baghdad to discuss the draft federal oil and gas law.

Adel said, "This law will solve many problems in general, problems in the oil sector in Iraq, in addition to the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and for the Kurdistan Region to be a key partner in decisions related to the oil industry effectively."

The Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed earlier that the discussions in Erbil and Baghdad regarding the draft oil and gas law are witnessing good progress.

We can always hope that this can be accomplished. I’ll believe it when it’s published in the Gazette.

Member of Parliamentary Oil: There are no practical steps regarding the oil and gas law

{Economic: Al Furat News} A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Amer Al-Jabri, said that: "There are still no practical steps regarding the oil and gas law."

"The committee is waiting for the government to send a draft oil and gas law to start studying it," Adnan Al-Jabri told {Euphrates News} agency.
The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, pledged, within his government program, to legislate the oil and gas law. During his visit two days ago to the Kurdistan region - announcing a comprehensive agreement with Erbil - he said: We are continuing to implement this agreement, which is a prelude to understanding about the legislation of the most important law, which is the oil law. The
oil and gas law that has been stalled in Parliament since its first session, in 2005, is one of the most prominent points on which a preliminary agreement was reached between the governments of Baghdad and the Kurdistan region. However, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Sherzad Qasim, stated that the law faces many obstacles. , despite the fact that it helps to resolve the differences between the governments of Baghdad and the region.
