umbertino
Identity of new spiritual leader remains a mystery. Pope will step out publicly in minutes.By Christina Boyle / NEW YORK DAILY NEWSWednesday, March 13, 2013, 2:06 PMVATICAN CITY — White smoke billowed over the Vatican Wednesday night, indicating Habemus Papam — we have a Pope. The 115 cardinal-electors notified the world of their decision with the customary puff of fumata bianca, though the identity of the new Pope was not revealed immediately. After the election, the new Pope is typically escorted into an ante-room and given time to pray and select his papal name.Next, the new Pope will make his first public appearance as the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics when he steps onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.Thousands are awaiting the appearance of the 266th pope in St. Peter’s Square. The puff of white smoke came after the cardinals had voted five times, starting Thuesday night and continuing with four votes Wednesday. It was not immediately clear how the winning cardinal reached the 77-vote threshold.http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/new-pope-article-1.1287399

speculator2
Another old hard liner Pope. So much for those looking for modern reform. Good luck Francis in handling all the corruption in the Catholic Church. Some things never change. Just saying..
Goldiegirl
Pope Francis I from Argentina.... Will be called Pope Francis the First (in english....) Yup named after St. Francis of a Assisi (the son of a weathy man who lived with little possessions) This new Pope is humble with an interesting backgroud. He's gonna shake them up and shake them down. He didn't wear the red cape with the fur lining either...first one in what did they say, 18th century....LOL Making a statement ASAP...!!!! They said he was unhappy with priests who would not baptise a children out of wedlock and that the mother had to go from church to church to find a priest who would do this. Good for him.!!!! He said, didn't Jesus love the sinners and lepers???....OH YEAH baby!!!! ..he's gonna shake down that Catholic Church in a good way.....so happy to see this... I thought they gave them the name but apparently it said they choose it. Edited March 13, 2013 by Goldiegirl
tankdude
Pope Francis the First. I don't think he is going to be an old hard liner. He has already broken with tradition by taking a new papal name. Being a practicing catholic myself (always practicing because I'll probably never get it right) I look forward to what will happen. Coming from the New World, being the first non European Pope, and being a Jesuit, I think you will find him much more flexible and open than people expect.
dog53
Just the fact that he is a Jesuit is very impressive. It was the Jesuits that brought Christianity to the four corners of the earth. Their courage and faith was renowned through out the globe. The native people of the 6 nations were in awe of them. The courage the would show as they died in our fires was greater then the bravest of warriors. Because of this the Indian people accepted this new god in to their hearts. Going to argue a little with you on this one Goldie. I think it might be St Francis de Sales. He counseled charity over penance as a means of progressing in the spiritual life. This fits in more with the Jesuit tradtion than ST Francis of Assi's povery and obedience.

I thought they gave them the name but apparently it said they choose it. Great post. I could not agree more. I pray that the new church will begin to hold priests accountable fot their actions. They can not continue to pro tect these folks by moving them around. If the church wants to gain back it's credibility and it's followers, they need to start excommunicating the pedaphiles. In my eyes, once a priest commits a sin like that, not only are they no longer a priest, but they are no longer worthy of a life outside of a jail cell. Go get em Pope Francis !!!!! Pope Francis the First. I don't think he is going to be an old hard liner. He has already broken with tradition by taking a new papal name.
