kmseeker
Senate Democrats are proposing to stabilize borrowing through sharp cuts at the Pentagon and other government agencies, as well as $2 trillion in new taxes, primarily on families earning more than $1 million year, according to a copy of the plan obtained by The Washington Post. FlintNPebbles
I don't agree with them paying MORE but I certainly agree with them paying their share. It seems the more you make the more "loopholes" that are formed to help keep tax liability at a minimum.
willy1der
good ....people with more should pay more. ov So penalize the person that figures out how to make more, that's your idea of fair. A single person making $100,000/year has to pay more taxes than the couple that claims the same income and you thinks it's fair for the single person to pay more because they don't need it as much. Is that what you're saying? What am I paying taxes for, isn't it for services rendered by my politicians, military, infrastructure, etc... So why does the single person have to pay more? The single person is ONE person, the couple is TWO people but it doesn't cost as much to protect or represent them. I can't agree with you on that one. 11
Badbumble
So let me clearly understand you, those the work harder and smarter and make more money should give the government more of our money so they can hand it out to those that choose to sit on there asses and do nothing? REALLY? And which of the two groups are you in? 19
Popular Post R2d2dc
OK, Captain Obvious. People with more already pay more! I am not in favor of people with more should have more loop holes or tax shelters etc. but I do think that if I pay 40% everybody should. Then again, I am not in favor of all of the entitlements currently out there either so call me evil if you will. I / We pay for all of that and I for one am tired of working because I am capable and some collect checks not because they are incapable of working but because things aren't perfect or it's not their field or I used to make more and should make more. Times have come and gone and things are different. They say there are no jobs, yet I see signs up, I see jobs in the want ads. The problem with those jobs is that we don't want to do that. Sorry, again evil thoughts........... It's frustrating to me to see all of the money we as a nation spends and see so much waste and spending of money that we do not have. The elected will not take a stand because they may be unpopular. Shoot, what it is going to take is a bunch of them to stand up, be brave and do what's right for the country. There are cuts that Must be made and Yes it will hurt all of us and some things will be terrible. We will all feel it, yet it Must be done. Sooner than later. Sorry, I got carried away. This is of course just My opinion. Sorry if it is unpopular.
RVnow4meplease
Ok they are going to be highly upset about that but they will be able to rebound from it. My concern is for the folks here that never had any money like (what they will get after the RV). Most will be broke in one year due to these funny new taxes. But isn't that the plan after all to balance the National Dbet?

Skubyact
At this point, 100% of Americans could be taxed on 100% of their annual income and we would still, as a country, NOT be out of debt. GO RV!!!!

TexasGranny
good ....people with more should pay more. ov How many jobs have you had from a "poor" person. Where do you think this country would be if we taxed the people in the 1M + twice as much as we do now???? Most of them can relocate to anyplace in the world just like a bunch of DV'ers have stated they intend to do. They could also take their companies and jobs with them. Where would that leave our job seeking citizens then? Yes I agree the loopholes should be closed but I do not agree that it is the wealthy that should pay for all of the free medical, welfare, etc. If our illustrous government would simply stop the flood of illegal immigrants crossing our borders for free everything, our debt would be reduced. The next thing our government needs to do is STOP THE SPENDING! Nothing in the US Constitution states that our government is going to take care of our citizens cradle to grave and that is what we have now!. All of our problems are the result of inefficient and arrogant politicians who think they know everything. The do not know "squat". Sorry for the rant but I will be 70 next year and eventhough my SS will probably not be affected, I have children that will never see a dime because by the time they reach retirement age, there will be nothing in the kitty. My son pays in the max every year and he will not see any of it. My daughter is a quad C-5 and does not qualify for SSD or medicare. The system is broke. We need to put people in office that can fix the problems not kick the can down the road. 7

Black.Sheep
A great economics lesson.......... THE TAX SYSTEM EXPLAINED IN BEER Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100...If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this.. . The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20." Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men? The paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by a higher percentage. They decided to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay. And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving). The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, " but he got $10!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!" "That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "we didn't get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier. David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D. Professor of Economics. For those who understand, no explanation is needed. MAW33326
How about cutting our government spending and then raise taxes after thats done. What a concept. Why should people rich or poor pay more in taxes, while certain individuals are taking billion dollar trips to Italy and Ireland? Oh yeah lets touch base on that Mr. President... MovieMaker
I have an uncle who is so unhealthy at 60 years old, due to his working so stinking hard. 48 years of hard labor. He was smart enough to know how to save. I've always felt bad for him but proud of him at the same time because he always helps people. Yep he's loaded but. . He's a GOOD HEARTED HARD WORKING MAN. This is just an example why I have MIXED EMOTIONS on that. On top of that, his daughter is in the hospital with Leukemia. He should be able to help her (his family) first. dman13
Just a few quick observation... First, historically, the attempt to tax a country out of debt has never worked- if you don't cut spending, then what's the purpose of higher taxes? Pertaining to the spending cuts: 1) address the SS and Medicare fiasco by allowing those 45 years and older to keep the system they have- they have paid all their working lives and promises should be kept; however, those 30-45 would have some time to reorganize therefore allow them to invest in the free market, access to gov't healthcare but in more limited basis, and give them a 10-15% tax cut to make up for loss time due to the promise; those younger than 30 should be redirected to a plan that allows them to manage their own retirement without paying to a gov't fund... Of course, this is a preliminary observation and I haven't done the analysis but it is my opinion that something on this nature would be workable. 2) immediately cut out the 'gold parachute' of the politicians- it's ridiculous to allow someone a 4 year term and then pay their upkeep for life- Health care, office budgeting, security, pay, etc... what's up with that if not insane? Also, let me say that if any CEO had the power and clout of Federal political leaders and drove their company into the US's present state of affairs, they'd be summarily fired. 3) stop all foreign aid and re-evaluate who/where we want to give funds- billions to Pakistan, billions to Africa, billions to the Mid-East... what's up with that? Doesn't seem to be buying good-will, nor does it seem to buy cooperation- so, why do we keep sending the dollars?? Stop it and re-evaluate! 4) Tell major corporations that they need to maintain 70% of their manufacturing, administrative, servicing, and development operations in the US or risk losing the protection of the US. Reduce their corporate taxes, close the tax-loops, but make certain that 70% of an US corporation is grounded in the US. 5) re-negociate all trade agreements making all more equitable and fair. 6) (and I like this thought a great deal...) stop foreign students from studying at Universities and colleges and make US knowledge a commodity resembling oil, steel, or labor-goods. If a country wants to set up a facility using knowledge developed by the US- they have to pay for a team to do so... can't send a student to a university and learn: No foreign students in our educational system. Yes, they can reverse engineer technology but that takes time which allows the US the ability to grow and yes, that will make for rough seas but when they calm, the US will have skilled workers unlike any in the world. Finally) if we go to war to protect resources or aid freedom because someone petitions for help, it should be under agreement that such action will be 'paid for' by the petitioner. Once that is agreed upon, then the US should let the military loose with intent to win the objective as quickly as possible. If we're not going in to win, then simply don't go in. Before everyone punches holes in the above, let me reiterate- they are just my preliminary observations- I haven't given a lot of thought to any of these but believe they would create revenue and lessen spending if implemented correctly. Just meant to be thought-provoking possibilities. I'll close with good luck to all and Go RV.

HawaiianGal
I'm late to this discussion... back to the raising taxes on those people earning more than 500,000 or 1,000,000 a year. I'm willing to make a bet that this is the backbone, thigh bone, and heel of small businesses in America, and these are the people who are thinking of going into business for themselves. Remember, they are talking income, not NET WORTH. All this would do is penalize people who don't have their finances structured properly, or PEOPLE LIKE US who want to make a better life for our families and our neighborhoods. How many of us are planning to invest in our own companies or put more people to work when this whole thing happens??? THIS is what Obama would be shutting down. 1
