The value of the dinar will NOT stay where it is forever....its been the goal for over 7 years now to get back to where they once were before the sanctions were placed on them but this allows for them to be able to justify coming out higher because theyh will be reducing the physical currency in circulation which has been the biggest issue in my mind because they would have to lop first to come out at a decent rate....but this will make things a tad easier on the citizens in the meantime before they get all their ducks in a row and finally pull the trigger

I agree.

So long as those Visa cards are DEBIT ONLY, not DEBT INCURRING. I don't want to think how hard it will be to teach the general Iraqi public that their new Visa cards are not magic "buy anything you want without money" cards. What do you mean I owe you 30,000 IQD? I paid with that Visa!!!

Just a thought.:o

Peace and Prosperity

That's what I was thinking, too. But won't they need ATM cards? Could this just be issuing ATM cards with the VISA logo, like we have in the USA?

I dont like this. I think it is a bad sign; the best motive for an RV is to cut down on the ammount of CASH iraqi's have to carry around. These visa cards in effect do the same thing, but without having to have an RV.

Stay postive Rich , My statement is that the standard Equipment the we swipe our Cards through will not support a 3,489,000,000.00 purchase , such as going to downtown bagdad to buy a plasma screen .

I am open to correction :D

Hmmmm - - - - I keep thinking about the phrase, "Activate the VISA Card". Hmmmmm (more thinking) - - - If the National Guard is activated, that means that the National Guard is there, it exist but activating the Guard puts them into "active use", "making use of them" etc. I tend to agree with this post I found. -----------> I don't see that this article means anything except what it states. 1. VISA card is already there in use, just not very many of them. 2. Use of a VISA card will stop the need to carry around large bags of money. Keep in mind the Dinar is almost worthless and it takes a LOT of Dinar just to buy something worth a USA dollar.

What do economist have to do with control of anything? Read the definition of an "economist"!

I would like to add to this, who or what is a specialist that is calling for the economist to active the VISA card?

Economists work in many fields including academia, government and in the private sector, where they may also "...study data and statistics in order to spot trends in economic activity, economic confidence levels, and consumer attitudes. They assess this information using advanced methods in statistical analysis, mathematics, computer programming [and] they make recommendations about ways to improve the efficiency of a system or take advantage of trends as they begin

Exactly Jurypicker - - - - - Economist cover a wide range of people. Some may have control of "stuff" and many don't have control of any thing. Watch CNN or Fox, they can have a panel of economist give their view/suggestion of what is going to happen, best stocks to buy, which stocks to stay away from, is it a bear or bullish market. They all have different views and can't come to an agreement on much of any thing.

Wow this is fantastic news. While I have not read all the comments so far: the visa cards indeed will be a boom to the local iraqi economy giving people instant access to their revalued dinar, all the while starting the removal of the over abundance of IQD paper from the local economy. Further directing the country into a modern national and international banking system; like from the start. Something that must be done. Something that will only shore up the realistic value of the revalued dinar. Also starting the worldwide flow of cash into the Iraqi economy, from the outside. These steps will lead to the next step, by acting as the catalyst to pull the excess of IQD paper off of the world monetary market further reducing to much paper chasing a finite amount of value; gold, oil, etc. Allowing those of us who are choosing NOT to run down to the local commercial bank, or Ali's nearest cashing in center asap, to possibly gain a few more bones for our dinar when we cash our lot in. My father in-law might not care, but I do. Besides I will have to run around to the VIP suggested Estate Planning Attorney, Tax Attorney, Financial Planner, and CPA to set up everything so I can keep and maintain my money. Then its retirement and the mission field for me.

Kowabunga dudes and dudettes. As always understated, and always infered, thank you Adam M. How is that post R.V. cruise idea going?

Peace, love, happiness.

Thanks Adam. I think the Visa that is good anywhere is a great sign that the RV is just around the corner. Why would they tease the people with a negotiable or ATM Visa if it weren't good anywhere else? Not reasonable. It HAS to be good anywhere....its VISA!!!

Can't you just smell the RV!!!! :D

Come on CRUISE!!!
