Seriously , did you ever notice BO's left arm was longer than his right? Doctors found it was because BO had this severe twitch. Everytime he or anyone else mentioned his name his twitched caused him pat himself on the back, and his head swell's.....no known cure. Luckily this a very rare disease....funny thing is Michelle has it too..........odd. :P

Perhaps the taxpayer money needed for a military parade would be more reasonably spent on further training and equipment, rather than on a personal political folly.  Do your military personnel a favor Donald....get on that big beautiful plane of ours and visit the troops in harms way, like every other POTUS in history.  I'm sure they would appreciate it.  Just this veteran's earned opinion.  <_<

GO RV, then BV

Personal Opinion from an old Infantry grunt -

This could easily become overly politicized (All hail Prince of the Obvious!).  If they did something "failrly sedate" - Like a Veteran's Day parade - featuring veterans from all eras - equipment from all era's if available - maybe the Old Guard (They're right down the road) and NO massive display of rockets, tanks, APC's etc (Maybe a few - but not the rows and rows like you would see in the other countries) I think would make a tasteful way of honoring the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.  With that being said -

I also agree that there would be better ways of spending the money.  i know the military has a pretty large budget (but if you talk to the "Joes" they will tell you how things are always getting stopped because of budget concerns) and I think that another 10-20 million dollars (conservative estimate on my part of what a parade like this would cost) could go a long way taking care of some issues.  Just as a for instance (personal gripe here) maybe to finish completely fielding the new Scorpion camouflage uniforms? They started roll out of this uniform mid-2015. I was issued my blouses, patrol cap, boots, t-shirts belt about 6 months ago - got my light winter jacket a month ago. Problem - I'm still waiting on pants in my size!  Apparently Large - Long is such a popular size the inventory system can't keep up. Good thing I have until October of 2019 to have a full uniform - looks like I might have to wait that long.

Lets talk about infrastructure repair costs!- I mean a company of M1 tanks (that's 14 of them for you who aren't military) are going to absolutely chew up the blacktop! Even with rubber track pads (which are the standard BTW) 70 tons of rolling armor just plain puts a hurt on roads.  An that's only a company - imagine if someone decides to bring in a whole Mechanized Battalion - that 2 companies of tanks, 2 companies of either Bradleys or Strykers, and a support company with all sorts of heavy equipment for everything from towing broken down tanks to setting up fueling points and mobile kitchens.  You think that might do a number on a road?  I'm betting just putting everything back the way it was even with NO minor "incidents" would cost another couple million.

I'm all for showing military support - I'm probably one of the biggest patriots you would ever meet - but I'm also a pragmatist.  I see this as a tightrope walking exercise that could hit a point of diminishing returns in the world wide political scope. If I was in charge of the parade, I would really look at what other countries do. Maybe even invite other allied troops to participate - like France does. ( That is where he got the idea...)

Just how I see it from my foxhole.

Master Yota - 33 years so far - still in the National Guard. I'm 56 years old and pushing for retiring at 60 as long as my body lets me keep passing the PT test.  So far the only issue I have is the run because of some arthritis in the ankle from a training accident. I've had to switch to the walk in stead of the run - but still doing enough pushups and situps to pass if I was being graded as a 21 YO....

So we know the Clinton left the country to dodge the draft (and the left winked at that), Bush was in the guard (the left did not like that -dodged serving in the regulars), Trump had a bad foot or something and did not serve. Now all 3 of those guys were citizens with draft numbers, does anyone know what Obummer's draft number happen to be? And how did he get out of serving his country? Just asking.

The excerpt:

Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs, defended Trump's idea against criticisms that it would be a waste of money.

"I'm not sure that honoring our military is a waste of money," he told MSNBC on Wednesday. "This is not about a dictatorship. This is about the president wanting to honor the military."

Yeah, I am all about showing honor to the military. President Donald J. Trump is not the only Patriotic American who has an undying appreciation for those who have and are serving in the US Armed Forces. Besides, not everyone or everything is going to be on parade by a long shot. I understand the most up to date and current standards will be shown on parade and, I agree, all other standards should be applied through out for the utmost in military preparedness AND THE HIGHEST MORALE!!!

Lawmakers balked at the potential cost of President Donald Trump's desired military paradeafter news broke Tuesday that the Pentagon was exploring possible dates.

Sen. **** Durbin, D-Ill., called the idea a "fantastic waste of money to amuse the president."

"Take the money that the president would like to spend on this parade [and] instead, let's make sure our troops are ready for battle and survive it and come home to their families," Durbin, the Democratic minority whip, said on MSNBC Wednesday morning.

Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., also expressed concerns about the parade, telling CNN on Tuesday night, "I don't believe we should have tanks or nuclear weapons going down Pennsylvania Avenue."

"We need to fund the entire military for the rest of the year. The continuing resolutions are absolutely not the way to go, especially as it relates to funding the Department of Defense," Zeldin, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said.

"Cost [of the parade] would be a factor," he added.

The Washington Post first reported Tuesday that during a January 18 meeting between the president and top generals at the Pentagon, Trump said he wanted a large-scale military parade that would roll through the streets of Washington — and that his desire was heard as a presidential directive.

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed to NBC News Tuesday that it was looking at dates for a possible military parade that could take place in Washington in November.

While estimated sticker price for the parade has yet to be revealed, Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, tweeted Tuesday night that "a military parade costs millions."

"Let's fix military housing, hire more VA doctors, fund telehealth, DOD schools, support the commissaries, daycare for families, or give more flight training time," he said.

A military parade costs millions. Let’s fix military housing, hire more VA doctors, fund telehealth, DOD schools, support the commissaries, daycare for families, or give more flight training time. Our highest defense priority must be the service members, not the politicians.

Durbin, however, said there is a better way to spend the money that would still show the country's appreciation.

"And finally, let's make sure that we're doing something to stop the waiting lines in veteran's hospitals. That's a good way to put money, taxpayers' money — investing in our troops, investing in our veterans instead of the amusement of the president."

President George H. W. Bush held a military parade in Washington on June 8, 1991, to mark victory in the Persian Gulf War. The cost of that parade was $12 million, according to a C-SPAN report at the time, which amounts to about $21 million once adjusted for inflation. At the time it was called the biggest victory celebration in Washington since the end of World War II, with a crowd of around 200,000.

Trump has previously discussed his love of displaying military might. He was reportedly very impressed by a parade he witnessed in Paris to celebrate Bastille Day last year, which the president attended as a guest of French President Emmanuel Macron. The parade also commemorated the 100th anniversary of the United States' entry into World War I in 1917.

The draft ended in 1973.....Barack Obama was 11 or 12 years old.  However, to conspiracy birthers his age, country of origin, name and ssn are fraudulent....so who knows, Barry may be older than The Donald and his bummed bone spur.  :D
