I registered at the local post office.....don't remember getting a number.  I believe my service number and ssn were one in the same when I served my tours of duty.

Shabs, that happened awhile ago. I received a draft number while in college in 1968, and when I entered the USAF in 1973 your service number was your ssn.

WASHINGTON (  AFP)

 

 A military parade will be held in Washington on November 11, the day the Veterans Memorial is celebrated, the Pentagon said Friday.

The offer was inspired by a July 14 French military parade that President Donald Trump expressed his desire to do. 

The US military parade "will focus on the contributions of veterans from the War of Independence and the 1812 war to today, with an emphasis on the price of freedom," according to a memorandum signed by a senior Pentagon official published by the Pentagon. 

The military parade between the White House and the Capitol - separated by a straight line of 1.8 km - should be carried out and would include representatives of veterans' associations. Some of them will sit next to President Donald Trump on an official platform on the Capitol. 

Vehicles will be run during the show but there will be no tanks to avoid damage to the infrastructure, with the conclusion being an air show. 

The show will also be a tribute to women serving in the military since the Second World War.

In February, the White House announced that Trump had ordered the Pentagon to organize a military parade to show US military strength in a resolution that also sought to highlight his role as commander-in-chief of the armed forces. 

Trump, who had the idea of organizing a military parade in Washington even before he was sworn in as president last year, formally asked the Pentagon to organize a military parade, and Defense Department officers began thinking about the best time to do it. 

"President Trump fully supports members of the great armed forces who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe and has asked the Pentagon to consider organizing a ceremony in which all Americans can express their gratitude," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in February. .

Trump expressed his surprise at the military parade which he attended in Paris on July 14 on the occasion of the French national day at the invitation of his counterpart Emmanuel Macaron, who was then allocated a great reception to the guest. Trump had the idea of organizing a similar event in Washington. 

Once the White House announced Trump's decision to organize a military parade, criticism from opponents of the billionaire president, some of whom did not hesitate to compare his behavior to the conduct of a dictatorial leader,
